Holozing delays

A post going over some of the delays regarding holozing and a rundown on what's to come.

We've ran into some issues with the vial opening, I guess similar to the main game, things have been made quite complicated which takes some time to make sure they're working as intended. Unfortunately, it has taken a lot longer than expected. We are hopeful to have a working vial opening ready soon an announce it over on the official @holozing account which has been kind of dead lately which I take the blame for, aside from announcing a new creature we've created and naming it there has unfortunately not been too much else to announce as things we've been working on have been gameplay and some backend stuff while half the team just gotta wait around for things to get finished.

I've been trying to work on different things in the meantime, we've been doing quite well with our digital collection card set and are looking forward to announcing to the artists all the artwork we've chosen to include in it so far. There's still some work to be done there as well, which I've been told our game dev can handle to make the opening a lot smoother compared to the mess we did with the vial opening that required a lot of bandaids and will kind of be McGyvered to a release soon.

Gameplay is also very far and quite complex under the hood but easy enough to learn how to play for newcomers and casuals, sort of like Hive itself I suppose. We've done a lot of work there while other things have kind of staggered behind but this also means that we're back in debt in terms of devpay which the price of Hive has made it difficult. I'm quite happy that our devs have stuck with us however and agreed to delayed payment understanding the situation and the uniqueness of the project.

Due to funding we've had to place a break on 3d work and further 2d artwork such as new creatures with the exception of card designs for professions/crafting. As many of you know we've placed a lot of resources on the artwork so it is something that can stand the test of time, we are very proud of the work done there for a grassroots project. We've been very lucky to find amazing artists working for reasonable prices and many (even communities outside of Hive) have mentioned how amazing everything art related to our project is.

Anyway, here's a quick rundown of the process we're expecting the game to develop in the near future.

Things that may be implemented before beta or after beta depending on progress

Ending words

I have to admit this has been a lot harder than anticipated, not only in terms of skill/endurance but also on the mental side of things. While I've tried to fund the game as much as I can, there's unfortunately a bottom line there for me personally as well where I have to look towards growing my Hive stake rather than locking up more Hive towards the game at these Hive prices. I won't be able to purchase as many vials as I've done for a while but am thankful for others who've also believed in the project and assisted the crowdfunding of it and I hope with some progress we can show there'll be more support for the game and excitement returning for playing it. I guess I don't need to say too much regarding that as we all are aware of Hive's performance lately, but as they say, it's darkest before the dawn.

With that I do want to note that I haven't "lost hope" or that I'm not willing to continue betting and working towards the game, far from that. I am however also a "hive maxi" and have long term plans of what I want to build and the people I want to see do well along this journey with me. I'm not too worried about the state of the game. The work that's been done so far may not be completely visible since we don't want to spoil too much without everything looking the way we want it to for first impressions, but it is done and we can move forward with it even if some devs or team members have to take time off or can't afford to wait around for funding for too long. I think people involved in our project are aware that we're not too much in a rush but want to show something good and long-standing once it is ready compared to multi-million dollar gaming projects/companies just shutting their doors after their VC's have made a quick buck. We're here to bring something you may be playing for years to come and potentially even future generations because Hive isn't going anywhere and neither are we.

This is not meant to be taken as financial advice, who knows what can happen in the future, but as long as I'm here and mentally and physically capable I will keep pushing for this project forward similar to many other projects I've built here on Hive. I am grateful to others who've helped out along the way and the amazing community (especially artists at this point in time), whether to make a quick hive profit or stuck around for the long-term, you've all helped in different ways and I hope it'll be worth it not just for all of you but for the ecosystem of Hive as a whole.

Alright, enough emotions for now, just wanted to give you all a small update that we're still "alive" but that things may be delayed, do with that as you wish. Will be reblogging this post for those who may follow @holozing but not this account.

Totally understandable, these things take time, especially when you're aiming for quality. Appreciate the transparency and hoping for success for the vial opening and card set progress. Keep up the great work man, it’s all coming together and is Hive

I feel you on this one. The mental game is always tougher than expected. It was a good move prioritizing your Hive stake at these prices, that's just good strategy. The community support has been amazing though, and I'm confident better days are ahead for all of us here. I'll just contribute few engagement and writing at a time

Can you remind me, is there a limit to the number of vials you are going to sell at the beginning or is that not a fixed number? I see that 3,745 vials have been sold already.

@acidyo | June 17, 2025, 11:13 a.m. | Votes: 15 | [ VOTE ]

It's time-limited. Before beta launch we will replace them with Beta Vials which will contain new starter creatures, different starter items (different design and names and potential looks/variations, think instead of a laser pistol it might be a polaroid camera or instead of the alpha hoverboard mount there might be an electric scooter instead, etc). The alpha creatures will still have a small chance of appearing in those, but not as guaranteed as in the alpha vials and with slightly lower odds for higher stat rarity (this is to prevent there being too few alpha starters down the line but instead be evergreen). Different design on empty capture cards, among other things.

In terms of zing earnings in collection rewards, beta vials will also give out less weight than alpha vials.

@bozz | June 17, 2025, 11:36 a.m. | Votes: 1 | [ VOTE ]

Ah okay, I was wondering if there was going to be a market for the alpha vials eventually. Like once we can open if I should hold back five vials or something to see if I can flip them in the future when demand goes up.

@acidyo | June 17, 2025, 11:38 a.m. | Votes: 15 | [ VOTE ]

Yeah you'll be able to hold them closed and without knowledge of what'll come out of them prior to enable trading for them as well all while earning some zing rewards which will dilute over time to favor items and creatures.

A game of this magnitude (AAA - "triple A", large productions) takes between 2 and 5 years to be made. That's like a team of 15 to 20 developers and a budget of thousands of dollars right off the bat, which is not the case.

Between pre-production, production, testing/polishing and post-launch, a lot of gray hair and a lot of headaches attack its mentors.

More and more people are looking for immediate profit. They want everything yesterday. That's not the best attitude to have a project like this.

P.S. I leave a suggestion: update the information available in the "Rodmap V1" on the HoloZing website 😉

yeah a lot needs some updating, I need to get around to doing it soon.

while we may not launch as triple A or any A for that matter, we definitely aim to get there some day!

Is the Zing token going to be used as currency in the game or are people going to buy stuff with hive ?

@acidyo | June 17, 2025, 12:33 p.m. | Votes: 21 | [ VOTE ]

Depends what u mean with stuff:D

the idea is that it is both used ingame, but there only as a sink. I.e. to craft items you need to add a mixture of materials and other stuff but then also burn some zing. Other things will require some as well like unlearning healer talents, creature moves, professions, etc.

But then also as a way to market the game later by using any extra profits/revenues the game makes to burn tokens to make the economy worth more rather than making CEOs/founders insanely rich as we see in "web2". Now of course if this were to happen I'd profit as the founder as well since I've bought a lot of zing but emphasis on bought compared to web2 people just giving themselves a massive amount of equity/shares for having created it.

It's great to hear progress is still being made, even with some setbacks. Kudos to you and the team! From the little I know about game development, I've come to understand how hard it is to keep everything running smoothly, especially for complex games like this. Great work! When time comes for alpha testing, I'll definitely be there!!

It must really stressful to handle all of this, expecially since people have expectations and want to see, making even more pressure...

If politics wouldn't be so stupid in need of starting a new war every X months probably hive price would be higher and help fund the project, but for now it is what it is

@artofkylin | June 17, 2025, 2:07 p.m. | Votes: 1 | [ VOTE ]

I have seen more then a few projects(both web2 and web3) die and I really hope you and your teams endurance hold out.

I am so looking forward to alpha testing. It's gonna be awesome and I love testing stuff.

I think that once this game is up and running it is going to be a draw to hive. The artwork is awesome, what I've read of gamplay sounds very cool, and who doesn't love collecting things?

One thought I did have, have you considered selling mini-vails for like 5-10 HBD?

PS - Anyway you can hint how much healers are gonna be? And will they be sold for Hive/HBD or Zing?

Glad to know you're still doing great man. Take all the time you need. If I was to do a project like this I'll prefer quality over rushing things any day. The wait will be worth it for the players and hopefully years to come it can evolve to be one of the biggest blockchain games out there.

@seattlea | June 17, 2025, 6:33 p.m. | Votes: 2 | [ VOTE ]

Keep on working on it, eventually you will succeed. And Hive needs another big hit like Splinterlands was in 2021, who knows you might make it even bigger. One crypto game going mainstream would change the whole gaming crypto category and with that launch the chain it runs on into top 50 crypto currencies, who knows it could be Holozing...

Another part of your post that caught my attention is your statement on growing your Hive stake at these prices. Are you buying Hive at 20 cents here (down 7% today)? I recall Hive hitting around 16 cents last year... anything under 20 cents sounds really tempting...

@acidyo | June 18, 2025, 1:33 a.m. | Votes: 10 | [ VOTE ]

Not buying much but just not selling it for vials/zing feels already better at this time, think I've thrown over 200k hive towards zing so far in 1.5 y

Hey acidyo! The project looks pretty cool — always nice to see new stuff happening on Hive. That said, I’ll be honest, I’ve gotten a bit hesitant when it comes to games on the Hive ecosystem. Over the years, we’ve seen a bunch of them start strong and then kind of fizzle out… like dCity, Terracore, Rising Star — just to name a few. A lot of them either go quiet or end up in that weird “zombie project” state.

I know Splinterlands is usually the go-to example for success, and fair enough — it’s done well. But personally, it’s not really my kind of game. I’d love to see something fresh come along that actually sticks, especially with a different vibe.

What makes this one different? I’m hoping there’s a solid plan for long-term support and funding, since that’s usually where things start to slip. Would be awesome to have a game that doesn’t just launch well, but actually keeps going and growing.

@acidyo | June 18, 2025, 3:18 p.m. | Votes: 13 | [ VOTE ]

to put it short, the plans here are to create powerful nfts that can be used in multiple games of our ecosystem and for the project to keep creating different versions of games to suite everyone's niche. I.e. we don't want to just settle for an autobattler or hearthstone-like game. We want our nfts to be cross-compatible on multiple games and potentially collaborate with others in the future. While we're going to start off with a world of warcraft x pokemon-like round based battler, that's only the beginning.

At the same time we are also quite unique as to where token issuance launched fairly without giving founders or team a premine but rather paying artists, developers and helpers putting in time and effort in hive. So anyone helping to crowdfund it gets some value back and this is something we aim to keep as is, i.e. wages won't increase dramatically and if the project becomes successful it doesn't mean that the founder or team become rich overnight, they have to be invested in the project and token themselves which is not the case for everyone. Furthermore I also have to keep purchasing tokens and ingame assets as the founder if I want skin in the game.

Either way. it's quite an experimental project I don't think we will be seeing many copy. The base idea of healer x creature is also quite unique and leaves a lot of game genres open. For instance it could easily be turned into a unreal 5 mmorpg and work well if we had millions to fund it, but we're going with the start small and grow from there rather than asking people for too much money and things maybe not working out.

@unschool | June 18, 2025, 3:22 p.m. | Votes: 0 | [ VOTE ]

Very cool! Thanks for the reply! And is it going to be a pay-to-win type of system like a lot of games nowadays - especially on blockchain? Or do you plan to equilibrate things a bit?
Have a good one!

@acidyo | June 18, 2025, 3:37 p.m. | Votes: 11 | [ VOTE ]

It'll be in different brackets weighted based on rarities and win rate. Some pay2win can't be completely removed from these games, it's also something that drives markets and volume forward, I.e. someone finding a super rare and high stats creature may want to sell it for 1000 hive because he's not that interested in competitive pvp, however someone actively playing highend competitive pvp on a daily basis may want to invest 1000 hive in that creature so they can utilise it in their battles against other players with similarly strong creatures.

Brackets means we will allow players to enter pvp with creatures of max purple/epic rarity vs others of similar stat rarity so you won't get wrecked by someone with the most expensive/rare creature but instead know that your opponent can't have much better creatures than you so it'll be more about tactics, strategy, knowledge and some luck. Weighted rewards means that lower rarity brackets will simply offer less rewards to top players than the higher rarity ones since those cost the most and are the rarest.

There'll be brackets for a lot of different things though, level restrictions (players can only pvp in this bracket if their healer and creatures are lvl 2-10), rarity restrictions on healer items and creatures and maybe even class/creature type restrictions/edition restrictions (alpha/beta/etc).

@unschool | June 18, 2025, 3:49 p.m. | Votes: 0 | [ VOTE ]

Well what I was hinting at is that do you favor being good at the game versus just having spent all your cash. If brackets are only meant to separate the rich from the poor, I think personally it kind of suck. If it separates the good players from the casual, it's another thing.

I can play Pokémon without spending thousands of dollars and can still win is where I'm getting at. On the other hand I still need a deck that costs money and some rarer cards on the market that's a given.

I think balancing things out makes the gamers stay long term. Though from what I understand you seem to understand this.
