Yeah well, yesterday was pretty rough for the Phillies. As a baseball fan, I can very much appreciate what Jacob Misiorowski accomplished. So looking at it that way, big picture wise, it was pretty cool.
Jacob Misiorowski just owned the Phillies yesterday, it was truly a rare type of pitching performance. For starters, Misiorowski threw a 104.5 mph fastball, the fastest pitch by an MLB starting pitcher of all-time. So right there is a concrete piece of history. Misiorowski was throwing 103 as late as the ninth inning! Unheard of stamina! Second, he threw a complete game one-hitter, which is always outstanding. Third, the man threw 15 strikeouts! Finally, he did this all in 95 pitches and faced the bare minimum of 27 batters. The guy was a total machine out there. The game was over in the blink of an eye, lasting just 2 hours and 4 minutes, which is tied for the quickest game of the season from what I understand. Apparently the league average length of a game is 2 hours and 43 minutes.
So yeah, the Phillies ran into just one of the hottest pitchers of all-time so, can't be too upset with them at the end of the day. I wish that Misiorowski had performed like this against a different opponent but, can't always get what you want unfortunately! Andrew Painter continues to struggle mightily as he gave up five more runs yesterday. I think it's only a matter of time before the Phillies send him back to the minors for a bit. I really don't have much faith in him at this point in time. The dude is 1-7 with a 6.43 ERA. He's only recently 23 years old though and so maybe he just needs more time. Some players develop at different paces!
Today the Phillies look to rebound with Aaron Nola pitching. Nola has shown glimpses of looking ok and so hopefully he can keep striving for consistency. I'm not expecting much but we'll see. Looking at how Painter has been pitching, Nola is pretty much a breath of fresh air. We'll see though!
Phillies need to just put yesterday behind them and look ahead!
