I have a Steem

A dozen score years ago great leaders of a fledgling nation came together to form the Articles of Confederation as a first step towards self-governance away from a monarchy seeking unethical control of people. They joined together in their fight against taxation, intolerance, militarization, and all threats to their sovereignty. They wrote about such things as "mutual friendship," "free inhabitants," "times of peace," and "common defense." There was no president, laws required unanimous votes, it could not enforce laws, states could maintain their own currencies, there was no regulation of commerce, term limits reined in delegates, and the one functioning body could not raise taxes, but simply ask for money from the states. This was a true vision of independence and a modest role of government as a body to provide a forum for discourse and common defense.

In their lust for power the Constitutional Convention called together representatives of many states and launched the United States of America. Knowing they could not amend the Articles of Confederation for the bar had been set too high for those men seeking to control others instead wrote a document from scratch and discussed Presidents, Judicial branches, the sole coinage of money, slaves, and did away with term limits. They took it upon themselves to self declare they had the power to:

borrow money on credit of the United States,
Regulate Commerce,
Establish uniform Laws,
Coin Money,
Provide Punishment for Piracies and Felonies,
Establish Post Offices,
Patent Rights,
constitute Tribunals,
Declare War,
Raise, support, and regulate Armies and a Navy,
calling of a Militia to suppress insurrection,
Set their seat of governance and defend it with Forts, Magazine, Arsenals, and dock-Yards,
To make all Laws which shall be necessary for the Execution the foregoing Powers.

This was an act to lay the ground work of planetary tyranny and the Perpetual Siege of the World. A nation designed for perpetual war had been crafted and we've seen the result. A once peaceful community acting in self defense has been at war 224 years of the 241 years it's existed. Today is no different excepting that which has lead to greater extremity. Where peace once ruled now has over 1,000 military bases in foreign nations and military personnel in over 130 countries. The government is waging an active war in no less than seven countries at once. We are not at peace, and this nation is the source of war.

Beyond that abject poverty created through purposeful and perpetual creation of money as debt has crippled the vast majority of people on this planet financially leaving a handful of billionaires while billions have only a handful. We are not abundant while millions of people die of starvation and live in servitude to debt.

And it would seem the era of liberty has passed. When your speech that conflicts with social norms of the day can lead to your imprisonment, when no less than 40% of your income is stolen to wage war, when millions of non-violent offenders are incarcerated, and when official papers must be presented along with sniffing dogs and armed soldiers at every port we are not free. We are not free.

But we must refuse to believe that the bank of Peace, Abundance, and Liberty is bankrupt. We refuse to believe that our great Pact of Humankind is closed for good, nor do we believe that the Universal Spark of the Divine Creator and the Great Collaborator that lies within us all is dead. Instead we know that our birthright for a peaceful, rich life, where we are free to do as we will so long as we cause no harm is in our hands and has been all along.

We have come to this platform seeking change to the status quo. We seek to end the unending violence. We seek to do, say, and be as we see fit so long as we cause no harm, and we seek a life where scarcity cannot be found. We seek the promise of the American Dream, a house, a family, sustenance, and peace but without the shackles and violence that currently prop it for the handful that can achieve it.

Lady Peace cannot wait. We cannot lock her out, nor shut her off. For with each delay we offer there is another life quenched by the machines of war that our forefathers carefully constructed. So, it's on us to to combat the monster of our past's design. And let it be that this combat won't be fought with weapons of war, with blood of our family, and through the destruction of our community, but with the ripple of billions of voices simply declaring "I do not consent."

I do not consent to violence.
I do not consent to taxation.
I do not consent to war.
I do not consent to poverty.
I do not consent to currency as debt.
I do not consent to an infinite series of unjust laws.
I do not consent to be ruled.

And though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow I hold a Steem.

With my steem, a block-chain currency that can create abundance at a click, I have faith that we can universally achieve our pursuit of property and happiness.

I have a Steem and a hope it will pass between the wallets of peaceful inhabitants of Baghdad and the soldiers who have laid down their arms in peaceful protest.

I have a Steem and a hope it will purchase food for the hungry in the poverty wracked streets of Caracas, Venezuela.

I have a Steem and a hope it will pass between my two daughters and they'll be able to spend it openly and freely without a heavy hand and the threat of a loaded gun if they don't give a piece of that Steem to the state.

I have a Steem today!

I have a Steem today and it comes with a hope that the many brothers and sisters working tirelessly on behalf of a million different projects can usher in a wave of peace so loud it'll be heard from the steps of the white house, the bells of the Vatican, and shatter the glass on the stock tickers in the City of London.

This is the hope I share with many. This is the faith I have that the swords will become plowshares. That the spilt blood of "the other" will be the garden bed of a peaceful world, and that the cacophony of a planet each playing their own instruments to their own liking will in fact harmonize into an incredible orchestra that may uplift and sooth our souls.

And let today be the day. Where we no longer promise as children in schools to Pledge our Obedience to any state or organization that seeks to rule.

Let today be the day when we stop singing the Battle hymns of any group that perpetuates violence.

Let this be the day when we stop casting body bags and coffins for our sons and daughters who fought one another.

Let this be the day we cease to consent to such things.

If the free inhabitants of the World Wide Web are to be truly free this must be our start!

So let us trade Steem from the oracle of Delphi, to the great wall of China.
Let us trade Steem from the Pyramids in Egypt, to the Coasts of South Africa.
Let us trade Steem from the Pauper in Pakistan, to the Merchants in Venice.
Let us trade Steem from the rolling hills of Pennsylvania to the Peaks of Kilimanjaro .

Not only that but let us post about Liberty from the once controlled streets of North Korea.
Let us post about peace from the former barracks of the Soviet Union.
Let us post about Abundance from the empty buildings of the BIS in Basel Switzerland.

And when this happens, and when our unhindered trading and free speech can be heard in every village and every hamlet, from every city and town, when people of all faiths and continents can walk hand in hand as brother and sister with a virtual upvote and resteem, may then the former controllers of this world shrink in terror of it's free people, and may a golden age of peace, abundance, and liberty be upon us all.

Today I have Steem. Tomorrow I hope to trade it with you.

Steem for the freedom
Steem for the Survival
Steem for the Truth

You have portrayed the upcoming role of steem very well in this article. Steem really has the power to shift the financial system. Steem has the power to change the world. It has the power to feed the hungry. Steem has the power to provide clothes to the naked. Steem has the power to make worth living for survivors of war.
Love Steem and Live for Steemit.

That was so eloquently written. It reminds of the virtue that was once in the hearts of free people that have been lost in this modern rat race where people have forgotten that they have value and have voluntarily unconsciously sold themselves as indentured servants to a system that only seeks to profit from their backs and only give them the crumbs. That was once called slavery but the neo-slave doesn't even realize they are such. Well done @aggroed! Well said!!!

I love steemit and MSP, PAL.net!
But we need to do some serious work....
I am not a tech or any great thinker, I am a little above average(?) on somethings and don't even register in some... ;-)
I have a lot of issues with the ability to buy reputation,and some of the bots, ect, .. you know about Bernie Sanders, he is chump change ! what happens when Janet Yellen and her "freinds" decide to buy steem?
these People are organized they have think tanks, Bilderberg, Trilateral, groups...they have plans and agendas!
You know the score@aggroed, I respect you and what you are doing!
So lets grow Steemit , and get a couple million minnow in PALnet< so we can get steemit to a couple billion, to Free several more Billion!
I think you know what I meme!

That was beautifully written and very inspirational. We need rid of any and all government/authority. Without those false and misleading ideals I believe humanity would flourish in ways it hasn't for a long, long time or ever. Our misguided belief in our need for authority has us loving our chains. Authority is simply just another name for a Master. And if the very few (including government, tax office, law enforcement etc) hold all the authority in the world then they are by default our masters and we all allow it.

So in response to your excellently crafted post I say:

I do NOT consent!

@globocop | July 15, 2017, 6:07 p.m. | Votes: 2 | [ VOTE ]

A pertinent write-up @aggroed - it's speaking to my heart and soul.

Many have lost or sold their souls to comfort and laziness, to willful ignorance and slavery - to the enemy!

We shall not consent. We are rising instead. I have a Steem, too. And I am living it - so that those who come after us will indeed reclaim liberty - and keep it.

Extraordinarily great post.

@aggroed ,

I am a Social Worker by career. I have spent my entire life helping people rise from the ashes of victimization. I have waged legal battles to serve justice in the hands of the hard-working and seeking peace in their lives. I have fought through the red tape that constricts the souls and the shackles that relinquish all freedom.

However, it is my own demise that the very banner I hold, is doctrine by the very proclamation, the very hand that chastises this world.

It is the very servitude and selflessness that unfortunately ends antisocial behavior, violence, crime, and unjust human practices… also feeds the Overmind that which dismantles the human ability to fight and represent as an armament of peace.

As I herald the banner of freedom and safety, my cognizance and symbiosis are ultimately guided by the very principals that have destroyed this world.

This paradox binds the lives of others, for if dosh, contracts, expectations, protocols are not followed... there is no treatment for the unfortunate. It supervenes through the Iron Fist that we entrust our wages to, and in the end, resistance is futile without a complete relinquishment of the symbiosis created…. Only to create a new symbiosis…

I approve your message and forearm-lock you in this peaceful exertion

I'll consent to that!

Not a single dissenting opinion in 82 replies? That just isn't right :/

I understand this isn't a popular opinion around here, but I feel discussions from both sides are healthy for a community.

First, I have to admit this is a fantastic article that portrays your views perfectly. Truly, it's not a matter of finding a place to start but rather finding a place I can start. I believe in many of the ideals you do.

The only real area I disagree is taxation, and I guess by extension, rule. I consent to be ruled in-so-much as I expect others to be ruled. A just society sets rules and enforces them, and I consent to this practice.

Taxation I feel is necessary for the world I wish to live in. A world interconnected with common goals and aspirations that we all contribute to. I see a world ruled by corporations which, though often propped up by government, are also restricted by that same government to not prey on their employees and gullible consumers.

I've heard of the Free Market solution, and the suggestion that without restriction everyone will have the ability to go where their skills are most needed, but what government restrictions are in place to prevent people from doing that now? Corporations aren't going to suddenly become benevolent once they have less restrictions. Absent the government, which you ultimately have control over with your vote, a corporation would be accountable only to it's owners. Many would be happy to take advantage of the impoverished, and one look at Walmart shows us that consumers will accept it as long as they can save a dollar. Slavery under corporate rule seems far worse than any government I've seen in a country that resembles democracy.

Therein is the problem I see. Too many have become complacent with democracy. They're told the people they vote for are doing what they want, ignoring the actual things they do and the effect they have. Too many have become lazy voters.

We need to take back our governments. Help give rise to democracy where there is none. Elect representatives that have proven themselves beholden to their constituents, not their donors. Bring in direct democracy when decisions are irregular, such as war. War should not be a regular occurrence. War should never be enacted without direct input from the populace. Conscription as well should NEVER be enacted. Only those willing to fight the wars they feel just should be made to fight.

We can fix what is broken, we just have to care. Not just some of us, but all of us.

So I support taxation, but we must elect a government that is willing to use that taxation for it's people, not corporations or self-interests. There are good people willing to do this, but we need to start propping them up.

This said, my ultimate goal is still freedom. As it stands, I feel our freedom is in greater peril from our employers than our government. I see nothing stopping you from taking on these corporations as it is, so I suggest securing that front first.

If you show me a world where corporations follow a moral code above government regulations I will stand by you in your endeavor.

Ultimately I'm certain this world can not last as it is. One way or another I feel the natural progression of human society is one where corruption can not exist, for nothing will exist to leverage that corruption. Technology will replace the inefficiencies of the current world, and government AND corporations will lose their purpose as we are truly free to pursue our passions.

For now I believe we should fix this broken system. Then let it die naturally as an antiquated footnote in human history.

So you can't make decisions on how to best apply your money yourself, and willfully wish to enforce upon others this extortion just because you can't figure out how we can quite easily and in most cases more efficiently and less expensively achieve everything governments now do so badly for you? How you figure that is logical?

@johnyliltoe | July 19, 2017, 7:39 a.m. | Votes: 0 | [ VOTE ]

What are your case studies for government being less expensive? My country elected people who, though still mildly corrupt, typically don't do things that screw over their citizens too badly. There have been terribly corrupt governments in the past, but we chose to oust them once they proved they couldn't handle having too much power.

I'm part of Club Canada, and I pay my dues throughout the year to be part of this club and use it's services, one which I like. For instance, I never have to budget for a medical emergency or go into debt because of a disease that's out of my control. No one does here (citizens at least, we're no France).

Our healthcare cost per capita is far lower than yours. Our hospitals work efficiently with what they have without the need to be concerned with profit. Profit drives up cost, so if your government funded program is actually more expensive for the same level of service then elect someone different.

More direct comparison, I've lived in British Columbia and Ontario as an Adult. For the same coverage, my car insurance in BC costs me $1000 per year. In Ontario it costs me $3000. Exact same plan, and driving is no worse in Ontario, but in Ontario there is no public insurance while in BC basic insurance is purchased through the government, who again needs less because there is no expectation of profit.

So in my opinion, public services are great. There are also no laws prohibiting private businesses from competing (private businesses actually sell extended insurance coverage at reasonable rates). If I have a problem with something my government does I vote out that government. It's the "social contract" I chose to sign.

I get that it isn't the life you're necessarily looking for, and I feel there should be some out for you in the world to live as you please, but not everyone that enjoys having a government, even if they're not happy with it as-is, is ignorant.

I see it as giving my money to people I hopefully helped elect and when I didn't vote for them I understand it's the cost of keeping the system in place. I'm not giving money to profit-driven companies whom I probably didn't have a hand in organizing.

So your assumptions are false, not everyone hates the job the government is doing as much as you do, and government run services are not always less expensive. Still not going to argue efficiency, but if it's not killing people I'm ok with that.

@sircork | July 19, 2017, 9:57 a.m. | Votes: 0 | [ VOTE ]

I NEVER said government is less expensive, but every case study in the world will show you how private sector initiatives most assuredly ARE more effective at lower costs, in every possible way!

And um, yeah, people who don't hate the government usually have allowed themselves to become dependant on them, and lack the capacity to see beyond that. And yes THEY ARE KILLING PEOPLE. HELLO?

There is so much wrong with this I can't even begin to cover it all here:

"I see it as giving my money to people I hopefully helped elect and when I didn't vote for them I understand it's the cost of keeping the system in place. I'm not giving money to profit-driven companies whom I probably didn't have a hand in organizing."

But perhaps you should investigate free markets, austrian economics and the failures of all of the premise you proposed!

@johnyliltoe | July 19, 2017, 4:13 p.m. | Votes: 0 | [ VOTE ]

Sorry, typo as I imagine you guessed. Meant to say "case studies that private industry is less expensive".

And yet, despite me giving two clear examples of the public option being cheaper, you shrug off the argument and go back to your talking point of how "Every case study in the world will tell you".

I'm literally living in the premise I just described, and provided the numbers to prove my point, yet you want to convince me it's a delusion? That it can't last? These systems have been in place for several decades and worked out pretty well for us.

And yes, there are some deaths along the way. Likewise, there would be additional deaths without government assistance, as not everyone is going to have a friendly neighbor to help them out. The difference is I'm ok with taking responsibility for deaths instead of just letting people die and claiming it's not my problem.

"The difference is I'm ok with taking responsibility for deaths instead of just letting people die and claiming it's not my problem."

No. Just no. Sorry, but I am capable of thinking outside my sheepish programmings.

The difference is you can't wrap your head around alternative solutions. To claim I would let people die is preposterous.

Here, read this book, written by a very good friend of mine. It will illuminate to you how dependence on government to do what society can better do on its own is a ridiculous position. You can buy it amazon to support the author, but i'll give you a link to the equivalent of a gubmint welfare freebie instead where you can take it for free at somebody else's expense:

https://mises.org/library/spontaneous-order-capitalist-case-stateless-society

GDammit, I left facebook because I was sick of lemmings. Please don't bring your government loving friends to this fairly anarcho-capitalistic platform, I can't take much more of the slave mentality.

And therein lies my problem with this whole exchange. This is a public application, not somewhere for you to be sheltered from opinions that disagree with yours. If you don't want a discussion, don't reply to comments you disagree with. If this bothers you, you're free to walk away at any time.

The way I see it, you're just as "programed" as I am. You refuse to consider any point but the ones you've come to agree with. You retreat to a corner of the internet where you think you won't be challenged by someone with a different viewpoint.

There are plenty of libertarian and anarchist sites you can go to. This is an open platform where discussion and debate should flourish. You'll have to get used to that.

@sircork | July 20, 2017, 1:14 a.m. | Votes: 0 | [ VOTE ]

No, see that's another fallacy. Sure, say whatever you want, but what you are saying is that you want a world where somebody else tells you what do to and by extension, me. You aren't even consistent in your own beliefs. But you can't even figure that out and that's the kind of ridiculous lack of insight I'm seeking to ignore.

@johnyliltoe | July 20, 2017, 2:33 a.m. | Votes: 0 | [ VOTE ]

Then ignore it. You're wasting your time asserting your position with anyone, some people simply have different priorities than you do.

I'm looking for an intelligent discussion, not someone insisting that they have the solution and anyone who disagrees is simply too dumb to see it. I'll continue to humor you if you want to continue, but from what you're saying you shouldn't have gotten involved in the first place.

@sircork | July 20, 2017, 3:21 a.m. | Votes: 0 | [ VOTE ]

Read the book, become enlightened to the errors of your ways, and quit expecting the world to spoon feed you at their expense.

@johnyliltoe | July 20, 2017, 3:52 a.m. | Votes: 0 | [ VOTE ]

World doesn't spoonfeed me. I contribute more than I take. I believe in a society that supports each other though, and that's the country I want to live in. I honestly feel you should have a place to live how you want, but unless you convince a majority to side with you it's not going to happen to the United States.

And all the power to you to spread your beliefs and try to convince people. But if what I've seen here is any indication, your level of diplomacy will only hurt your cause.

"I believe in a society that supports each other though, and that's the country I want to live in."

Me too, only my version doesn't involve coercion, extortion and a nanny state to do it.

@johnyliltoe | July 20, 2017, 1:49 p.m. | Votes: 0 | [ VOTE ]

And that's fine, but we have a fundamental disagreement on our world views. Do you think your method will work on a country-wide scale? Because I don't. There are too many people, each with their own set of interests. Human greed will get in the way, that is my experience.

Are you thinking small scale? If so, I agree it can work, but I have zero interest living in a small community.

@sircork | July 20, 2017, 3:10 p.m. | Votes: 0 | [ VOTE ]

I think you should read the book I offered you for free 3 or 4 comments back and become enlightened. It will work just fine. Open up your paradigm past giving others total control of your existence. Especially at the expense of others.

@johnyliltoe | July 20, 2017, 8:28 p.m. | Votes: 0 | [ VOTE ]

You really make this sound like a religious text. But I gave the bible a chance for the same reason, I guess I can read this.

My first burning question, which so far has not been addressed in the book (currently reading it) is, considering the homesteading principal, how you justify, assuming you do, ownership of any land in North America by anyone other than someone from Native American descent. That land was not handed over peacefully when the first settlers landed, but seized through force. That stolen property was passed on until it became "owned" by the current landholder.

@sircork | July 20, 2017, 9:44 p.m. | Votes: 0 | [ VOTE ]

There are many ways to look at how that might unfold, but the first might be to skip the theoreticals and deal in the real. Those native americans are dead and the current ones now CHOOSE to remain on tribal land, although many have gone ahead and moved to the burbs. So in reality, I justify it the same way I justify any other land already owned. I buy it from them if they want to sell it or go somewhere else. I mean seriously, if that's your best argument so far is that dead people once owned the land, then you could also argue that mexicans better resurrect some aztecs, incas and mayans and cut a deal.

Meanwhile, in the real world, where you have just shown disdain for the bible but worship a government to do your thinking for you, the rest of us will be fine, actually applying the principles you are learning about now.

@johnyliltoe | July 20, 2017, 11:11 p.m. | Votes: 0 | [ VOTE ]

Note I said North America, which inherently includes Mexicans and Canadians. So yes, if I were arguing that, I would say it would apply throughout.

Also please keep in mind I'm looking for clarification where it was not given. My intent is not to attack you, but better understand your position, though it's been a trying endeavor to say the least. I didn't bring it up as a gotcha question, I was pretty sure you would have some sort of answer. Just wasn't sure what it would be.

And I do not worship government. I wish to control government to the extent that I can, and I fully believe I can have that kind of impact through working with like minded individuals.

I show disdain for the bible because it's a far more widespread source of oppression than any government. Its very premise is that you should serve a higher being. I believe it's only real purpose was to control people to begin with.

@sircork | July 21, 2017, 4:40 p.m. | Votes: 0 | [ VOTE ]

What people get wrong about the bible, is that the old testament was a history book of the hebrew people. Nothing more, nothing less. The new testament is just a bunch of parables about being nice, and the only rule in the whole thing is "believe and you will be all good" in John 3:16 and really, that is hardly oppressive but rather aligns with like every prophet of every religion, be nice to people, dont do bad shit and you'll have a good life. meh, folks really get interpreting it wrong.
