Not raising the APR to 10% was the reason for me to remove my vote in the past. Will vote now, as he raised it to 10% and I think he has done a lot of work for the Hive ecosystem.

I would love to see an end to the in fighting and whales arguing over pennies. With a bit of effort and combined planning they could turn it into dollars and branch out separately into their own projects.

simply do a proposal, IMO if it could lower the cost to a very affordable level to get Smts to hive for everyone, it should get voted.

Even the Whales that don't want to support any sidechain know, cheap smts are a key metric for hives success + onboarding.

But I agree with the point, Hive engine has its own government system and the average hive user has no influence on it. That is something that makes it difficult IMO.

I think you know better what cost/ benefit would be.

Besides the DAO, I think you have a really good reputation to raise additional funds for a project :) And if some whales do MIMIMI, Hive engine deliver a product that works. IMO if HE could handle soft wallets for super cheap onboarding, it would be worth to fund 1000%!!!

Already a voter and supporter of your witness, but I'll reiterate that I love what you are doing for the greater Hive community and I will continue to support your witness for that reason. I know you put a lot more time, energy, and resources (including your own money) into supporting and developing improvements for the greater Hive community. I have unfortunately seen some members of the splinterlands discord and what not put forth comments along the lines of "money grubbing" and such; and I must say I hate seeing comments like that about yourself and some other witnesses/contributors. As a fellow hobbyist hive dev/contributor and witness myself, I've observed that sometimes members of the community who aren't quite as involved or simply just unaware sometimes forget that most of us are just volunteers, and I think that some deserved kudos to yourself, core devs, and other contributors (who really are just volunteers) is in order!

So anyway, TL;DR thanks for all you do and your hard work in helping to improve Hive. I love being able to contribute as a dev alongside great contributors like yourself and for most often times, little to no compensation or recognition. Which is okay, because I am sure you have a similar stance as myself in that we do these things not for those reasons, but instead to contribute to a better future for Hive and the world of blockchain in general! This post is the worst woe is me sob story I've read in a long time. Choosing witnesses isn't about which projects you want to support but who you want protecting your assets and keeping the blockchain secure. I never see you around during hard forks or critical events, nor do you have the technical experience to offer much if you were.

I actually think adding value to the community is an extremely valid reason to vote for a witness.

In addition security is a valid reason.

If a chain is successful but doesn't have security, that is clearly bad.

If a chain is secure but holds no value, that's a waste.

Yeah, I mean. When I look at successful projects they aren't made up of 100% of the same people. A blockchain project only filled with egghead engineers likely isn't gonna work. Similarly a blockchain project with only business people isn't gonna work. You need someone for the silica chips and the carbon based life forms.

Ideally you do it in a non-toxic environment. You don't shit on every influencer that swings by the say hello. You don't purposefully drive people away with flags and nasty comments.

We're at token 190... this project doesn't need another dev making minor tweaks to the blockchain. It needs an assload of apps dragging people in by the millions. We should be the most business friendly place around, but we're not...

Why so many of the top witnesses don't see that boggles my mind.

I agree, when I look around Hive right now, I see some of the most engaged users, building communities and Tribes.

All the talk of 2nd layer solutions, so far I only know of one.

I don't discount that security is also important, and think it takes a mix.

Excellent response. Not everyone on a winning hockey team is a goal scorer or can even shoot the puck well for that matter. You need people who can pass. People who can hit. The coaches. The waterboy even. It's teamwork from the locker room to the boardroom. And even when things get heated (it's not always pretty nor does it need to be), the common goal remains intact. My coach used to say, "Speak up, then shut up." Don't let a problem eat away at the mind because staying focused is crucial; don't dwell on it after the fact or turn it into a spectacle (a common challenge for most). I could keep going but the point is, if the team can't gel, you'll see a lot of empty seats in the stands. And this ain't no pond. There's money involved. This is the big leagues. Gotta pull your weight. No choice. Cool. Maybe I'll throw a vote your way now that I know where your mind is truly at. I don't expect people to be perfect. But you need to know this approach of yours where everyone kind of gets lumped into a pile and thrown under the bus doesn't create much of business friendly environment either.

That's not really what I said. My point is voting witnesses isn't about which projects you want to support. Witness rewards are not project funding.

I believe voting witnesses can be about what else they do, but the most important aspect of a witness is protecting the chain and if we vote in 20 people incapable of doing that we will be screwed.

A few good security people on a well rounded team of people who care about the future of Hive is a must. Alone it isn't enough.

It's actually an interesting discussion, but there are a few bare minimum requirements for sure.

Run a current witness with current version of code, keep the price feed and a few other settings current. Sign blocks.

Those are the critical "Witness Related Duties".

After that, I guess it's up to what stakeholders value.

It is all subjective and I have my own opinion. I will only vote witnesses capable of running their own witness servers and would be helpful in a time of need and are actually present.

I also don’t believe in choosing witnesses simply as a means of finding. It puts our chain at risk and all of assets.

I take choosing witnesses seriously and ability to maintain a witness and offer value when the shit hits the fan. Everything else is a bonus and respectable but to me that is the minimum acceptable value.

That’s my opinion and may not reflect what others think.

@xiko I'm not advocating a fork until it's entirely provable all is lost here and that the largest stakeholders are acting out of their own self interest rather than the interest ofhe network as a whole. The financial gains and loses of the large stakeholders seems to colour the way they operate, if financial gain or loss was removed from the situation I wonder if we would see less focus on propping up of an "old boys" club and a broader show of support for developers in the ecosystem.

I've had it out with the highest stake holders as a mere peasant, pointed out to the community the shit show that goes on and ultimately removed the vail of money knows best that prior was the standard thought process around here.

I do not for a minute believe in revolt without civilized talks and the issue being raised with adequate time to correct or modify the behavior in question. People are inherently slow in shifting beliefs most times and regardless of stake or financial situation that doesn't change mot times.

Things need to be changed around here, or here needs to be taken to another place. But regardless of our personal feelings on things it needs to be looked at objectively and decisions on how to approach this situation with the least amount of stress, drama and cost to the community need be analyzed.

This is a community that has already faced hardships together, we flourish and die by own own collective decision making. Just because a few stake laden individuals have a final say in what gets funded or who is successful here has little to no real world effect on how the community will carry on. Stake is used to control the network, not the users, and ultimately the users are the only real reason this network will ever hold or retain value. Now while him and his stake do have power far beyond what I personally like to see any one individual have, truth of the matter is he has more to lose than any of us.. So yeah, his decision alone dictating things isn't optimal imo, but to call a guy greedy who stands to lose millions and millions of dollars not to mention an absurd amount of work not only with core dev but with his support of allowing trading of the HIVE coin comes off as either resentment due to his finances and ability to dictate things here.. Or a deep rooted hatred for people being able to effectively over-ride the communities wishes. The whole way this shit is set up is pay to win, or be grandfathered in.. It's exactly how DPOS was designed. Is it flawwed? No, it's functioning as it was intended. Is it fair to others who wish a more democratic or equality based system? Oh fuck no, it sucks shit in that aspect.

Aggroed is one of the biggest use case production outfits on the chain. Does he provide a great amount of value for the chain? Absofuckinlutely! Does his inability to properly budget and route his revenue properly into R&D to make it sustainable so he doesn't have to ask the community for money even after being the top grossing app developer on HIVE? I would say yes. He's not a bad guy, I respect the man for a number of reasons, but his business management and finance planning suck shit for lack of a better term.

Everyone and their dog has an opinion, few if any save a few actually do anything to help the HIVE market cap increase, it boils down to our silly use of inflation to pay for absolute trash posts that no one really cares about, coupled with HIVE lacking the capabilities to really make it competitive against the big dogs..

This however is being worked on both by Blocktrades and Myself in the form of bringing smart contracts and etherium like capabilities. Without that sort of thing we have no chance in hell to actually be a top 100 ranked coin, it is what it is, but I also know that dozens of people are working to fix this on his team, and I myself too wish to bring smart conracts to HIVE, while letting all HIVE users run nodes to make extra money.

I'm not a good egg or a bad egg man, I'm just a stupid fucking Canadian that talks too much, has a problem with eitehr working so much I get sic kor getting too depressed to wake up. I'm not working on all this shit I do to make me rich, if it does, cool.. I', doing what I do because I think we as a community that has been through so much bullshit deserve better and to be prosperous. Who benefits the most from this? The largest stakeholders of course, but on the flip side if this network and it's market cap take a shit dive, those high stakes guys stand to lose more than most people will ever earn in a lifetime.. Always keep that in mind whan you see the higher stake holders acting in ways that might not exactly represent the best interests of the whole community. It's human nature to have some self preference in your own success. Some measure success in financial status, I measure success on how influential and innovative I am.

Ultimately besides being able to almost directly dictate who gets DHF funding, blocktrades really has no more power than you or I do.. Infact his large stake weight and ability to almost singlehandedly dictate things is actually a huge disadvantage compared to someone like myself who, while financially not as stable as blocktrades, have a far greater ability to sway the community mindset and focus. The higher ups a simply put do not control the community in the same way that an influential voice within and for the community has. The power has always resided in the majority and those amongst them who have the balls or stupidity to speak up and point out things that most fear to bring up out of fear of incurring wrath from the high stake holders.

I don't wake up and try to impress the rich guys here, I could give a fuck what they think about me, and the real reason behind that is because I don't need a huge stake to greatly influence things here. My words, mindset and virus like ability to burrow into and change a host or community simply by articulating what many murmur behind closed doors in the open makes the folks like myself the ones who hold the true power here.

Hive power controls the network, not the users. When Hive power is used to rule by force or be a gangster and force folks to bend the knee, the amount of effort it would take to completely dissolve the communities respect and faith in the leadership is trivial. That is the beauty of all of this shit. No one is forcing us to follow the high stake holders and Blocktrades, and the only reason we are all still on here blogging and developing is because we choose to support this network. As long as the high stake holders aren't using their stake to rule by force or fear and don't constantly undermine the idea of a freedom of speech platform the whole financial aspect of it all isn't even important.

Steem and HIVE have never been cutting edge tech. Graphene, the original source this was all built off of was something like 7 years old when it was used to create Steem.. Is it fast? Yes, Is it free? Yes (sorta). Is it anything more than a publicly visible database with a bit of logic and functions to allow it to act as a shitpost generator with a bit of inflation paid out to what I consider mostly hot trash content.. Not really, not at this point.

It ain't perfect, it ain't democracy and it sure as shit isn't even close to it's final form. You gotta ask yourself at the end of the day, why am I here?

I'm here because this community is basically my dysfunctional family, and building stuff on here is more fulfilling than doing some menial labour. Will I ever become a millionaire on here shitposting? Nah.. Will I build some cool shit that never existed before by being able to leverage HIVE core functions allowing us to offer shit that no one else can and maybe make some money doing it? Oh fuck yeah.

The tech is solid albeit dated.. But it's not so much what the chain tech allows right now that is the real selling point for me.. It's the fact that someone like me can leverage the extremely responsive and cheap interaction with this chain to build shit that will basically change the whole fucking crypto ecosystem by means of innovation.

Literally invented the zero risk account as collateral lending service on here, the DHF repayment method to ensure there is always seed money for new projectsand wrote the fucking manual on witness setup back in the day. It used to be about the money for me, I used to njoy the politics around here.. Now I realize neither the money nor the politics really matter.. The power and draw of this place is the community and what that community is capable of. If the way the higher ups guard things or make decisions really really irk you that bad. Say something to them about it as civilized as possible, make a post pointing it all out or radicalizing people against the shit you don't like, or simply read up on how these things work and go launch your own. No one is forcing us to be here, nor are we not allowed to do our own thing. I'm sticking with this network for the people I've fallen in love with in this community, in spite of sometimes getting upset with the decisions of the higher ups.

This chain is controlled by the top 20's and backup witnesses, but they don't control the userbase. And that can be proven in so many ways, both peaceful and extreme.. And that is beautiful. For the record I don't hate any of the high stake holders, even the ones that find it sport to belittle and infer I am just some poor stupid sap. Most of the folks on here are good people, even if sometimes they make decisions I think are short sighted.

User attraction and retention boils down to HIVE exclusive use cases. Nothing more, nothing less. And that means we need more apps that only are here, and more devs building them. Blogging and paying it out of level 0 inflation is fucking dumb as shit and a horrible busineess model and I suspect we see by 2022 a start of a shift to moving away from HIVE / HBD payouts and using them strictlyu as utility tokens, then having the tribes or clans pay out thier own tokens then have HIVE as the gold standard trading pair.. Something like how Hive-Engine works.. But instead of being a somewhat centralized JSON ledger it will facilitate cross chain interoperability allowing all of our tokens and wealth to be freely traded to and from not only our own side chains, but the greater ecosystem like ETH, BTC, etc etc etc.

We're only just now as a developing community starting to look at the fixes for our currently lacking functionality. It's exciting really man.. The community itself will support potentially ground breaking projects, Blocktrades and the other higher ups cannot stop development of things even if they choose not to support it through DHF, it's just much nicer when they do show support.

I guess it boils down to this.. Are you that upset with the guys controlling the chain that you give up on the community? I'm not, and while I've been pissed off a bunch in the past, I now understand it's not the higher up guys doing this to hurt small devs, but rather them trying to protect their stake and years of efforts getting wiped out by some complete falling off of community faith in it's own future. I'd be methodical and scared in my decision making too if I had what boils down to an amount of wealth that would suffice for retirement on the line.

Coders aren't surgically tied to their product either so if this sinks he doesn't suddenly loose those profits.

Playing the slow play though DOES guarantee maximum profit even if this thing is worth pennies in 2-4 years.

Well, you certainly get my (very tiny) vote @aggroed as I reckon you probably do as much to functionally enable the broader Hive ecosystem as anyone out there. Without Hive-Engine, who knows if layer two communities and tokens would even exist? And Splinterlands was (for the longest time) the ONLY thing St€€em/Hive had that globally draw people to the Hive ecosystem directly via fiat currency (credit cards) and may still be that...?

It would be more accurate to say registered over 110K HIVE accounts through our services though rather than infer those are all unique humans behind the accounts. Not saying majority isn't unique users.. But I know that a number of farming bot accounts run by one person are included in this number.

Just figured I'd put that out there.. As bad ass as bringing 110K users in to HIVE sounds if I had to guess it would be surprising if that 110K accounts represented 10,000 actual users perhaps all the way up to 50,000.. Whish still, is nothing to be scoffed at!
