The Mistake That Cost Me This 18 Mana Battle – My Strategy Matched the Rulesets, So Where Did I Go Wrong?

Today's 18 mana battle was very interesting and I understood an important thing and learned a lot from it. I did not win this battle but I really liked this low mana battle because of its rulesets. It was really an interesting battle to watch because one unit was far better then 2 units.

In low mana battles there is often a problem with monster selection because you have very limited options. When modifiers are also involved the confusion increases even more. Because of this a single wrong decision can lead to defeat.

There were three rulesets and I selected my monsters while keeping them in mind. I thought that I should choose at least two monsters so that I could create a good team combination and keep the opponent's units engaged.

In this 18 mana battle I selected one Archon and two units while my opponent selected only one Archon and one Wild unit. When the battle started I felt that winning this battle was impossible. The reason? Lets know..

One of the rulesets was Enrage Warriors where melee attackers were given priority over ranged and magic attackers. This means that all melee attackers would attack first and their reactions would be faster.

Keeping this in mind I thought it would be better to select melee attackers because this ruleset clearly favored them.

The second ruleset was Outsiders which allowed you to summon one Wild unit. This was a good advantage for players from both sides.

The third ruleset was Broken Arrows which meant that you could not summon any ranged attacker units. No matter how many ranged monsters you had in your deck they became useless under this ruleset.

After looking at these rulesets I believed that melee attackers would have the upper hand and would be more useful in battle. Therefore I focused entirely on melee attackers and selected only melee units.

However I forgot one important thing that the combination of a healer and a melee attacker can be extremely dangerous. If you have a tank monster with healing abilities that restores health every round than along with a strong attacker behind it, it can become an almost unbeatable combination.

This was exactly the strategy my opponent used. They relied on a healer and melee attacker combination with a single monster called Dread Traffarin. In every round I kept receiving damage while the monster continued healing a portion of its health.

As a result all of my attacks became ineffective and due to this strategic mistake I lost the battle.

Even so the battle was very interesting and I learned an important lesson from it. In such rulesets having a healer can be extremely important.

What do you people think about these rulesets? Was my selection better? Will be glad to see your answers in the comment section.
