An Introduction to Ancient Knowledge (ancientknowled3)

BY: @ancientknowled3 | CREATED: Sept. 3, 2018, 10:14 p.m. | VOTES: 735 | PAYOUT: $10.50 | [ VOTE ]

Greetings Steemians

My handle is Ancient Knowledge and I run a small blog dedicated to lost and forgotten knowledge of ancient peoples and cultures. It’s a subject I’ve been interested in for over 40 years and since I was forced into an early retirement due to long term illness I finally decided to put some thoughts to paper (well virtual paper at least). I’m hoping you all will enjoy the topics I post and maybe we can have some interesting and insightful discussions.

I’ve also been an avid crypto-enthusiast since early 2012 but I’ve mainly focused on the mainstream crypto’s (bitcoin, litecoin, etherium, doge, etc) since I don’t enjoy trading alt-coins or swinging for the moon on investments. Steem is something I’ve followed for awhile and once I started my blog (my about page actually has a steem price ticker), I knew I had to join the community and hopefully have something to contribute.

I’ve purchased a few hundred STEEM to get me started here at steemit and hopefully that will allow me to jumpstart my activity in the community. One question for all you pro-steemians, how should I split my holdings between steem, power and dollars? I’m thinking 50% steem and 50% power for now as I have no need/desire to cash out, so I don’t need dollars at this point, correct?

Other than that, there’s not much else to say about me. I’m a middle aged Canadian, early retirement due to illness, had to give up my dogs (hardest thing I’ve ever done) due to not being able to take care of them but I muddle on and am hopeful that being a part of this community will help lift my spirits and meet some new, similar minded people.

Well I think that’s it for my intro post. If you’d like to check out my blog you can do so at http://www.ancientknowledge.net . If you have a topic you’d like me to write about or would like to guest post, just let me know.

And to end on a happy note…… I present the best damn dogs there ever was…..

Pleased to meet you. Welcome to the community. I hope you have a great experience here. I am very interested to follow you as your topic of blogs sounds like it’s going to be fascinating. I can’t wait to read what you have to share. That’s a sad point about losing your dogs though, can’t have been fun. Is visiting them sometimes an option because for sure they will never forget you. I hope your health improves over the coming months and wish you happiness and good fortune. 50 -50 on your holdings sounds like a perfect plan too I would say😉🌴🌈🦋💛🍀

Thanks for saying hi sallybeth and I look forward to you visiting my blog and hearing your feedback.
Unfortunately I can't visit my dogs, I gave them up to a Shiba Inu (the breed) rescue organization and they guarantee anonymity for the adopters. It really was a shame and incredibly difficult but it reached a point where I couldn't even take them for walks (we used to walk 4-5 miles a day but at the end I couldn't make it to the end of the street without falling over). They were my best friends and companions for 7 years and I had to what was right for them, not for me. It's been just over a year and I still miss them every day. I use that picture for most of my online avatars just to keep them close to me.

Glad to hear you are intrigued, that is what I am hoping to do with my blog. Raise questions, maybe provide some answers, and definitely get people thinking.

There are many sayings about history, its written by the winners, doomed to repeat it etc. Yet if these are true, why is so much knowledge lost. How can mainstream society call these cultures/peoples primitive when they were able to create/invent knowledge that we can't replicate today.

I am fond of saying that the only thing we have right about our past is that we know nothing right about our past. We used to believe that the earth was flat, now we know better. We used to believe the Earth was the centre of the universe, now we know better. The sun used to revolve around the earth and so on and so on.

So why on earth (pun intended) do we now think that we now everything and have it correct? What will peoples 1,000 years from now look back on and wonder how we could have ever thought such stupid things and yet at the same time marvel at some invention we have left behind.

Anyways, there's plenty of time for my ramblings later. Thanks for your comment

I agree that our understanding of things is always changing. Modern medicine is an example, science has advanced how illness are treated. But, it lacks the holistic approach of many traditional medicine practices.

Hi @ancientknowled3. I've just joined Steemit myself and I was looking through the self-intros for ideas on how I should write my own, when I came upon yours and was moved by it. I can only imagine what it's like to be forced into retirement by an illness, but I applaud you for not letting it break your spirit, and from what I've seen so far, I believe there are people on Steemit who can be a resource for you in moving forward in life. I hope I can be one of those people for you.

Hello and welcome to the blockchain! Your field of study is one I'm also very interested in as a private investigator. I firmly believe there was a technological reset around 10 to 13,000 years ago. Humans
and advanced civilizations have been on our planet much longer than we've been told in our government history classes. We've also been lied to about our origins, but then that's a whole other topic, right?

Have you read the book Fingerprints of the Gods by Graham Hancock???

[IMAGE: https://steemitimages.com/DQmSHqvQkvVZNzKUZpi15wedqKyN1tQJcVGnScsTSkxkcFG/Liberty_Professionals---divider---steemit---teal.png]

Security

Do not use your owner key to log into Steemit.com to post. Use your private posting key instead. Keep your owner key offline as much as possible, and only use it when you must. What is your owner key? Your owner key is the master key you received when the account was first created.

Print it out in a font that is easily read, and then save it in a safe place. Then go into your Wallet, and from there click on Permissions. There you will find your other keys. Make sure to click the little buttons beside the appropriate ones to get the private keys. I would back those up as well.

Per the advice given by @ Arcanage, you should only use your owner key to:

  1. Recover your account.
  2. Change the other keys.
  3. Give a present to your children a few minutes before dying.

If you click a link to a site that prompts you to log into it, be extra careful. Double and triple check the address to make sure it really is steemit.com. A recent scam was using "lsteemit" as the domain name, and people were entering their owner keys to log into it. That allowed the scammers to log into the user's accounts, empty the money from them, and then ruin their reputation by using the newly hacked accounts to further the scam.

If you find or suspect a scam, please report it in the #steemitabuse channel on steem.chat.

Engagement and Authored Posts

In the beginning, unless you purchase some Steem Power (SP), your account will be extremely limited in bandwidth. Low bandwidth means you will not be able to reply to other people's posts or author your own post. You can see the bandwidth you have on the steemd.com website. The best way around this is to get an already established friend to help you with a little starting STEEM.

If you only have a limited amount of SP, it is best to use your bandwidth to engage others instead of authoring long and detailed posts. Once you have more SP in your account and more followers, you should author your own posts more. Never stop engaging other people through replies however. It is the best way to gain followers and build your network with quality people.

GINAbot will be explained below, and it is the best way to build your network and to find the content on Steemit that interests you most.

Bots

There are a lot of bots on Steemit. Some are useful and good, and others are not. If you see a cookie cutter reply, especially to your introduction post, it is almost certainly a bot. Check the account's reputation. If it is low, I would recommend just ignoring them. Everything is public on Steemit, so you can go look at an account's comments and replies. Are they all the same? It's a bot.

There's one good bot worth mentioning for new users. It is called GINAbot, and you use it through Discord to notify you of specific activity on Steemit that want to see. For example, GINAbot will tell you when a key phrase is used, when you or someone else is mentioned by account name, or even if someone deletes a comment. The bot is extremely powerful and free.

Simply add the following Discord server:

https://discord.gg/x9Empcm

When you connect to it, it will ask you to register and verify your account with a .0001 SBD or STEEM transfer. Then you will get a direct message from the bot with a private link to your configuration page. Go there to setup your options. The entire process takes 5 minutes, and it will be up and running. You can tweak the settings as you go too.

I have mine set to look for phrases like "residential security" and "private investigator" as two examples. Then I never miss out on content related to those topics. It also makes engaging in those conversations much easier, and that builds your follower base.

Don't Lose Your Content

Make sure you are copying and pasting your post content often as you write it, and put the data into another document to avoid losing it. I'll copy and paste my content into a Google document as just one example. Some people use Markup editors to do the same.

Definitely keep a backup copy right before you post it too, for some people have come back the next day to see half or the entire post missing even though the day before it displayed correctly. Make sure you copy and backup your long replies as well, for they can vanish immediately after clicking to post them.

Sourcing and Adding Photos

Adding photos to your account as a new Steemian may be confusing at first. The easiest way is to click to submit a story. Then use the built-in Steemit tool to upload an image from your computer. Below the posting window, you will see "Insert images by dragging & dropping, pasting from the clipboard, or by selecting them."

Click on the teal "selecting them" text.

Once the image is uploaded, you can copy and paste the link created into your account settings. You can also use the same process to add images to the block chain to use later. For example my template for this post includes links to images I uploaded long ago, and I never have to upload them again (unless I want to change them).

The coding for posts can also be overwhelming at first. It's very hard to show the coding in a post or reply on Steemit, so, here's a link to a Google document I made to help:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1NlAoGnP8q7ZAxGsEnvza-qotUGkoaae4SwXdubAhi2g/

Account Verification

Verifying your identity is very important because it will get you more support and people will trust you more.

The best way to verify is to link back to your Steemit account by using one of your other social media accounts. Some people will even post a video of themselves writing out their account information since that cannot be Photoshopped.

The more famous a person is and the more valuable their content is, the more important it is that they verify.

Websites

There are a ton of other websites to help you with Steemit. Here are some of the best ones for beginners:

https://steempeak.com (If you're not already using this site, I highly recommend you do. It has a much better interface to the blockchain than the default Steemit.com site.)

https://steemian.info/signup-faq (This site is by @ drakos and has a ton of good information for new users to help them get started.)

https://steemd.com/ (This site is used to keep track of your voting power and other stats. You do not want to run out of voting power, and you only get so much per day. I keep my voting power around 80% for example. Also use it to look at the coding for other people's posts. If you see a formatting trick they use, you'll see the code for that trick within the post details on steemd.)

https://steem.makerwannabe.com/ (This site will tell you who follows you, who unfollows you, and who mutes you. It is great for meeting new people too. I regularly check it to see who has followed me and to see if I should follow them back.)

https://steem.chat/ (This site is the official chat webpage for Steemit. There are Discord channels too, but I usually stick to the official site. Come in to network and meet new friends. You can directly message people there too, so it makes it easier to communicate with your closest friends.)

http://steemtools.com/ (This site is a comprehensive list of valuable tools.)

Graphics, Badges, Signature Blocks, and Banners

There are many skilled and talented graphic artists on Steemit. One of them is a good friend, @ grow-pro. He designed my signature gif, badges, divider lines, business cards, and more. If you are looking for a graphic artist to help improve your posting images and formatting, he offers low cost services here on Steemit. Look him up!

[IMAGE: https://steemitimages.com/DQmSHqvQkvVZNzKUZpi15wedqKyN1tQJcVGnScsTSkxkcFG/Liberty_Professionals---divider---steemit---teal.png]

@ancientknowled3 | Sept. 6, 2018, 9:05 p.m. | Votes: 1 | [ VOTE ]

Yep, I've read most of Hancock's works, von Daniken, Childress, Bauval, Coppens (hes good for ancient civilizations, I draw a lot of my article topics from him), Schock, Redfern, and Newman. I'm sure you can pick up the theme of that set of authors LOL.
Ashley Cowie, Chris Morgan, Ken Jeremiah, Ted Loukes, Graham Philips are some others that are interesting reads in the arena of ancient civilizations and alternate knowledge theories.

I agree with the technological reset in that time period as well. Seems like before the great flood/deluge / ice age mankind was definitely more advanced than we were after those events.

Things like the Piri Reis map, pyramids at the poles, underwater civilizations, etc definitely lend credence to mankinds advancements which were then wiped away.

Whether you look at things from a religious view, alt-archeology, ancient alien or whatever it raises a lot of questions that mainstream views just can't answer and prefer to ignore

Thanks for your comment and hope to have more discussions with you on other topics.
Feel free to visit my site at www.ancientknowledge.net and post some comments and we can hopefully get some engaging conversations going there as well

I love it! You're an expert. I spend all my time reading residential security books and learning more about surveillance. I just don't have the time to study this topic as you have.

It's a pleasure meeting you, and I'm very grateful for your presence here. As you can tell from all the responses to your introduction, a lot of people want to know more about your area of expertise. That's wonderful for both you and us!

David Icke is speaking in Anarchapulco. Perhaps you'd be able to make it if things go well for you here on Steemit financially? You know he has some pretty wild and crazy theories! LOL

Pleasure to meet you as well. I am by no means an expert, just someone who has read a lot of books over many decades.
I would love to do well enough on Steemit to be able to go to some of the prime speakers and such in the various feeds. I'm a member of another site that actually does expeditions to various sites around the world. The next one is to colombia in Feb 2019 and is titled The Lost Mountain Gods of Colombia.
That would be a dream trip for sure.

I think I will need a lot more posts, upvotes and probably a couple whales in my back pocket before that starts happening though LOL.

@finnian | Sept. 6, 2018, 10:09 p.m. | Votes: 0 | [ VOTE ]

"just someone who has read a lot of books over many decades" makes you an expert if all of the books were on one specific topic. I've read every book there is on residential and home security, that is why I confidently call myself an expert of the topic.

Visualize, do the work, and it will happen. That's how our reality works, right?! :)

Visualize, do the work, and it will happen. That's how our reality works, right?! :)
Not sure I agree with that completely.
Visualize, do the work, and MAKE it happen - more accurate in my mind

One of my favourite sayings is .. .Perception is reality.
What you believe is what is real to you.
Other people might not see things the same way, their perception is different, therefore their reality is. In their mind you could be deluded, misinformed, flat out wrong, out of your mind, or whatever.
However in your mind, you are "in the real world" or in the right, or certain of your path.
Humanity sure is interesting isn't it. No two people ever have the exact same view of the world at the exact same moment.

@finnian | Sept. 7, 2018, 12:11 p.m. | Votes: 0 | [ VOTE ]

Agreed and I stand properly corrected. Make it happen is right. Yes, it's a bit strange to think about actually, but there's really 8 billion different universes just for each human alive and then a universe for every other living thing. That's... pretty cool. I'm a strong defender of individual liberty too, and I believe everything should go down to the individual level. It's one of the reasons I hate forced collectivism. They are trying to force their view of the world on other people. No thanks! :)

It's a bit weird though because those accounts are not even being used. I've seen a lot of specific account names that apparently got reserved and never used. Maybe someone thought they would be like domain names and could be sold for a profit in the future!
