Although I often ride my eMTB in the area around Triefenstein, I haven’t yet managed to thoroughly explore Lengfurt’s “local mountain,” the so-called “Hemmerich.” Yes, I’ve ridden through the old quarry once, but other than that, I’ve really only ever ridden around the mountain. I’ve been up to the vineyard next door many times—the striking vineyard called Kallmuth. It’s truly beautiful up there. You’re rewarded with a fantastic view of Lower Franconia and the Main Valley. But you can also enjoy a fantastic view from the Hemmerich.

Hallo liebe Freunde,
obwohl ich sehr oft im Bereich Triefenstein mit dem eMTB unterwegs bin, habe ich es bislang versäumt, den "Hausberg" von Lengfurt, den sogenannten "Hemmerich" ausgiebig zu befahren. Ja, den alten Steinbruch habe ich schon mal mit dem Rad durchquert, aber sonst bin ich eigentlich mehr oder weniger immer nur um dem Berg, herumgefahren. Auf dem Nachbarberg, dem markanten Weinberg namens Kallmuth war ich dagen sehr oft. Es ist ja auch schön dort oben. Man wird mit einer tollen Aussicht über Unerfranken und das Maintal belohnt. Aber eine tolle Aussicht kann man auch vom Hemmerich genießen.
Compared to the Alps, the Hemmerich is, of course, nothing more than a slightly better-looking molehill. But even so, it has a summit cross that has come to be regarded as a symbol of the region. The inscription on the cross reads: “Freedom dwells in the mountains; envy dwells in the valleys.” Below it, there is a memorial to three mountaineers who now rest in the vast sky above the Hemmerich.

Im Vergleich zu den Alpen ist der Hemmrich natürlich nur ein besserer Maulwurfhügel. Aber trotzdem hat er auch ein Gifpfelkreuz, das mittlerweile als Wahrzeichen der Region gilt. Auf dem Gipfelkreuz steht geschrieben: "Auf den Bergen wohnt die Freiheit, in den Tälern wohnt der Neid." Darunter wird noch an drei Freunde erinnert, die bereit im weiten Himmel über dem Hemmerich weilen.
The cross is a popular destination for hikers—and mountain bikers ;-)—and, as already mentioned, offers a spectacular panoramic view of the Main Valley, as well as parts of the Spessart and the Odenwald. The sunset is described as a highlight. I can certainly confirm that with my photos. Yes, this is where freedom lives.

Das Kreuz ist ein beliebtes Ziel für Wanderer - und Mountainbiker ;-) - und bietet, wie bereits erwähnt, einen sensationellen Panoramablick über das Maintal, sowie Teile des Spessarts und des Odenwalds. Der Sonnenuntergang wird als Highlight beschrieben. Das kann ich mit meinen Bildern wohl bestätigen. Ja, hier wohnt die Freiheit.
There’s also a great trail through the young forest at Hemmerich—also known as Locksberg—that’s easy to ride even for less technically skilled riders (like me). Unfortunately, I don’t have any photos of it because I was just riding through. But a little further down, I stopped on this beautiful springtime path and captured the moment.

Durch den jungen Wald am Hemmerich, auch Locksberg genannt, führt zudem ein toller Trail, den man auch als technisch eher schlechter Fahrer (wie mich) gut fahren kann. Fotos habe ich davon leider nicht, weil ich hier einfach gefahren bin. Aber eine Etage tiefer habe ich auf diesem schönen frühlingshaften Weg angehalten und den Augenblick dokumentiert.
The Locksberg was completely stripped bare by the Lengfurt cement plant, which operated it as a quarry. Now the quarry is continuing to eat its way into the still-pristine landscape at the back of the Kallmuth vineyard. However, the former quarry sites have been and continue to be restored to their natural state. This is creating new landscapes that are truly worth seeing, serving as refuges for rare plant and animal species on the barren limestone soils.

Der Locksberg wurde vom Zementwerk Lengfurt in Form eines Steinbruchs völlig ausgebeutet. Nun frisst sich der Steinbruch weiter in die noch unberührte Landschaft der Rückseite des Kallmuth Weinbergs. Die ehemaligen Abbauflächen wurden und werden aber renaturiert. Dadurch entstehen wirklich sehenswerte neue Landschaften, die als Rückzugsgebiete für seltene Pflanzen- und Tierarten auf dem kargen Kalkböden dienen.
