It's hard to find solace and peace when dealing with people who appear to be adversarial for multiple reasons; however, I always try to find a sliver of a silver lining in a proverbial cloud to make sense out of what seems to be incomprehensible at times. A person who tries their hardest to "do the right thing" in their life has to remember to obtain some inner strength to create a balance to temper the crazy stuff. Our free will helps us to choose or decide which actions to take I guess.
