LYRICS
You came home with a blue tattoo
We thought blankets and a horse could save you
If its the only thing that makes you feel better.
It's not your place
this ain't your place
when the boys come home you know you'll fell better
take me to apache
take me home to the Mohave
Your blue tattoo was painted in blood
I remember you through the draughts and the flood
All you want is them to return
this ain't your place
it's not your place
but you will learn.
When the boys come home you know you'll feel better x 3
take me to apache
take me home to the Mohave

Thank you so much for the kind words! I wrote this song with a good friend of mine. The lyrics are a clear reference to a woman called Olive Oatman, She was the first recorded white woman to live with native Americans. Her families story and her story independently is just fascinating! I think as a child her family of five was traveling from salt lake city through America and decided to split off and go a separate way to the other travelers. Unfortunately, Olive and her family were attacked and most of them were murdered apart from her and her sister. The two girls were taken into the tribes and made to work. later they were sold to another tribe for some blankets. Here they assimilated Olive into the tribe and her sister died through a brutal winter. There are pictures of Olive Oatman on google that show her face tattoo which is normal for the women of the Mohave. The story doesn't end there and she, in fact, had two sons with a tribesman. Eventually, some pilgrims heard of white women being kept by a tribe and tried to "save" her from the tribe. Olive, in fact, did eventually leave the tribe only to travel across the Americas teaching the settlers the truth about the natives and opening peoples eyes to their ways. She had only positive things to say about her time with the Mohave, she said she had been taken into the tribe and treated like one of their own. Thats just an over view but the entire story absolutely fascinates me!
