HiveBooster Update: First Patch, Lessons Learned, and Early Revenue Report

It's been 12 days since we launched HiveBooster, and I'm excited to share our first update with the community. While it's still early days, there's been some meaningful progress and a few learning experiences I wanted to document.

What's New in This Update

We've just pushed our first patch, which includes:

Bug Fixes
- Resolved a few edge cases that were causing occasional hiccups in the upvoting process
- Fixed a few issues on mobile
- Actually had to struggle big time with the new release of hive-tx 7.0.0; for whatever reason, the production build was using latest while my test versions used 6.1.9, so production was failing since the latest update. Now everything should work fine again, I'll make sure to migrate to 7.0.0 on the next occasion

New Feature: Curator Field
The biggest addition in this update is the curator field. Users can now specify a curator name, and HiveBooster will mention them in the comment it posts when upvoting. This gives proper credit where it's due and helps curators get recognition for the content they're promoting through the service.

The Downvote Experience

Let's talk about our experience with downvotes. A bunch. Apparently the branding with "Booster" wasn't the smartest, and we were considered a vote buying service. Our reputation took a hit, which has limited the visibility of the service's comments.

I'm not complaining — this is part of the process for me. Some community members likely saw automated voting as something they don't want to encourage, and that's their right. It's a reminder that building on a decentralized platform means navigating community standards and preferences, not just technical challenges.

I'll continue to iterate and see how I can provide value while respecting the community's norms. The downvotes are data, and we're learning from them.

Revenue Report: Small but Present

On the monetization front, we've integrated ads into the platform, and I'm happy to report they're working and generating revenue. The key word here is "little"—we're talking very small amounts at this stage. It's not enough to convert to HIVE and power up yet, but it's proof of concept that the monetization strategy can work.

Every journey starts with small steps, and seeing any revenue at all this early is encouraging.

If you're using HiveBooster and finding it valuable, word of mouth would be incredibly helpful at this stage!

What's Next

We're continuing to refine the service based on feedback and usage patterns. The goal remains the same: make it easier for Hive users to curate and support content they believe in.

Thanks to everyone who's tried HiveBooster so far. Your feedback, whether through usage, comments, or yes—even downvotes—helps us build something better.

Stay tuned for more updates!

Shoutout and big thanks to @stayoutoftherz for the big upvote that actually got the voter account over 0 reputation again! 🙏

I don't know how other vote-buying services work but HiveBooster seems fair to me. I don't really have enough knowledge to advocate for you though. I'm using your service and I'm fine with it 😊

This isn't actually a vote-buying service. We give free upvotes based on what users want to get upvoted. Feel free to try it and let us know what you think!

Already using it and happy 😊

I really wish @buildawhale and @freebornsociety would take the time to explain why they continue downvoting this rather than just downvoting. While it's obviously everybody's right to downvote whatever they want, it's extremely demotivating when you're trying to build something for the community and you're just being dismissed without an explanation.

Read the pinned post.

You are financing a scheme from the pool, if everybody did that authors would get zero and schemers would get it all.

Make original content, every time and the flags will likely go away.

Thanks a lot for your response!

"You are financing a scheme from the pool" - that's exactly what I'm not doing. I'm using the revenue from ads and affiliate programs to buy HIVE and stake, so as to increase buy pressure on HIVE. This is quite the opposite of aiming to generate revenue from the pool.

BAW is very good at math.
I'd suggest not running any schemes and stick to creating 'good' content.
Folks are real touchy about the reward pool that way.

Thanks for your help. I'm sure the OGs here have a ton of reasons for their actions, but I gotta say it's really discouraging to people like myself who come in new and try to "innovate" in this ecosystem. It seems whatever has been happening on Hive has not really led to huge success in terms of price lately (which has started a lot of different initiatives), but if this community doesn't appreciate any development outside of "creating good content", I guess I'll just leave you all to it. I didn't mean to extract any value from the pool (and I'm clearly not doing that), I was meaning to inject value into the ecosystem, spending my own time and money on building and running the app, and if this isn't wanted, fair enough.

You are not the first one to try something like this, they got shut down, too.
IF hive was easy, everybody would be doing it.
IF everybody does it, the pool doesn't spread as thick.

I don't know why baw has flagged you, I can only surmise.
I'm just saying that folks that make 'good' original content generally don't get flagged, but folks that promise votes in return for whatever often get zeroed.

Well, that's where I think it's going the wrong way. Hive SHOULD be easy, and everybody SHOULD be doing it. There's about 1000 other blockchains out there that don't discourage people from building on them / with them / for them, so I'll just take my motivation elsewhere, just like the other people who've had good intentions but got shut down. To me, I don't care about the rewards, but the negative reputation dramatically impacts the visibility of the service, so I won't be fighting windmills.

It would've been easy to just go and say "hey, appreciate the effort, but maybe you'd rather do things this or that way" (some people did that), but if building ANYTHING that interacts with Hive posts is not wanted here, like I said, I'm out.

It's not that you are not welcome, we need all the people we can get, but certain behaviors don't fly in this environment and we've had close to 10 years to figure all that out.
Make original content, every time, and you will likely have no further problems.

@dankorox | Dec. 17, 2025, 12:27 p.m. | Votes: 0 | [ VOTE ]

I'm not here to make content for a potential audience of a few thousand people just to get paid a few cents in a depreciating token. The ecosystem had those ten years to figure out how to grow, and that clearly hasn't been working. After I dug into all kinds of aspects of Hive, I was fascinated with the possibilities of creating products on this blockchain (specifically products that could inject value rather than just extract or redistribute tokens coming out of inflation). So that's what I tried doing, but there's absolutely no reason for me to continue trying if this isn't wanted. It's a lot easier to build with a blockchain that has more standardized tech (like any EVM) and that is generally on an upward trajectory, so I won't bother anymore trying to help with the Hive ecosystem and instead focus on the other things I've been building.
