I got a text message from a good friend of mine the other day asking me for my email address. He said he had something he wanted to send me. I figured it would be disc golf related since that is a common interest we have shared for a couple decades now. Instead, it turned out to be a job listing at the place where he works. He was excited about the fact that we could potentially work together again like we did when we first met.
Needless to say, I don't think I will be applying for the job. It's hard to explain, but I feel like the job was somehow above my level. It's not that the job was dissimilar than what I do now, it was just on a much higher level than my current responsibilities. Where I am currently in charge of the technology department for a small rural public school district, this was the same position at a major local university. While I would likely be increasing my salary three fold (at least), I would also be increasing my workload and stress levels ten fold if not more.
@mrsbozz asked why I didn't at least apply, just to see what happens, but I don't think I could bring myself to do it. First off, I own zero suits, and this seems like a job where it's mostly politics, so I have a feeling a suit would be daily attire for me. I'm sure with a bespoke suit it might not be so bad, but it still sounds kind of excruciating for me. As I said, jobs like this are political and more about managing people versus managing technology. If I ever do retire, I'll definitely be looking for something a bit more mindless. I can't imagine the number of hours I would need to put in managing technology for an entire university with a global campus.
I told my friend I was too "country" for a job like that.
On top of that, they preferred someone with a masters degree, which I do not possess. While I appreciate the confidence my friend and my wife have in me, I certainly don't have that same confidence in myself.
Yet I still wonder if I am missing out by not at least trying. I have a feeling I wouldn't even get an interview, but who knows.
Meanwhile, crypto isn't doing anything to make me feel confident about retiring either. BTC seems to be in the gutter, and HIVE is following suit despite some brief moves a week or so ago. I was thinking the other day with BTC so low and HIVE holding steady around $.06 it might be a good time to move some more of my liquid HIVE into BTC. Unfortunately, then I went into my HIVE wallet and saw that the price had dropped closer to $.05. I wonder what the ratio is between the two. Is it still a good deal? It might be interesting to find out.
It appears it is still a good deal now, but only slightly.
Prolific
I was looking at my Prolific account the other day and it appears I have made my way up over $100 in earnings after just a couple of weeks on the platform. Which honestly, is pretty pathetic, but it's something I guess, and the fact that I usually only take part in studies that are less than ten minutes long shows that your earnings can add up.
I wonder what my earning potential would be if I did some of the more intense hour long studies. I'm guessing some people find a way to make Prolific a pretty decent side hustle. I doubt that will be the case for me, but any extra money I can funnel into my PayPal account is welcome.
Splinterlands
I recently got the invoice for my SPS license hosting service. I've been paying to have someone else host my license for a while now. I sadly watched my SPS balance drop from 4.5K to 2.5K and it got me thinking again about how likely it is that I am going to make that 2K back over the course of the month.
I'm starting to realize it might be a losing game having my SPS node hosted. In fact, I might actually be better off just having it sit there doing nothing versus costing me money. I should really start keeping a spreadsheet of the profits and losses to see if this is a smart move. The problem is, I don't really have a place to host the license myself. If the price hadn't dropped so much on the secondary market, I would sell mine in a heartbeat.
GoMining
My GoMining rigs continue to plug along. I haven't been doing too much with this service, but it was always more of a passive income generator anyway. I'll be keeping an eye on it to see if they offer any big discounts with the price of BTC dropping so much. I'm really bummed that I didn't get into it earlier, but these discounts they have been offering lately have been pretty awesome.

That's all I've got for today I think. It's funny how right now crypto just feels like one really big missed opportunity. Just like life, it feels like with every day that passes we move further and further away from what we have become familiar with. I'm not really sure how to reconcile that. I just do my best to put one foot in front of the other each day.
