Facebook users are not happy after it was revealed that a data mining firm improperly got its hands on the personal information of tens of millions of Facebook users. Many are becoming aware of how their personal data on Facebook and other social media sites could be compromised or mined and sold to the lowest bidder without their knowledge or without receiving any portion of those proceeds. It seems as if the community could be fed up with what appears as disingenuous actions by Facebook, a lack of regard for user privacy, and rewarding users with little likes and hearts instead actually paying them. Now users have taken to Twitter to voice their concerns and demand others delete Facebook all together. Will #DeleteFacebook trending on Twitter today lead more users to join STEEM?

Steemit is already better than facebook in many aspects, no need for friend requests, developers who value you, getting paid for content and for finding content, has engaging interesting content, no tolerance for trolling, no ads, and a community who accepts you.
Facebook has your friends pictures and videos and occasionally some great statuses. But other than that, there is no comparison. How many people would actually say they like Zuckerberg? Now how about @ned and @dan? It already is better, we need to diversify past crypto enthusiasts and it has the potential to become great if people do not abuse it.

The wonderful world of Steemit never ceases to surprise, and you sir, never cease from uncovering and sharing good info - thanks!
This isn't news to me, and the only reason we are hearing about it is because the info was harvested "improperly". Rest assured folks, there is no fuck to be given about your privacy, except from YOU. LEARN THE LESSON - if you trust some entity more than your own common sense, expect to get burned. Never had a Facebook, never will. I value my control and my privacy too much to trade it for convenience.
I started a "delete facebook" campaign about 8 years ago when I started realizing that I was using the platform to create some sort of fascade image of myself. The whole experience in FB felt really fake, the relationships there felt oddly competitive in the worst sort of way, and every jerkoff I brush shoulders with in high school want to chit chat all of a sudden even though we had nothing in common apart from going to the same HS.
I moved onto G+ which was good for a while, but it became a dumpster of political vitriol that grew irritating over time. I still have several thousand connections on G+ and I'm actively trying to pull them over here to SteemIt.

Two very different animals. Facebook let's you have a more detailed profile/page with a timeline, photo albums, etc.
Steem is more of a general blog/forum type.
Although I do hope that more users come to Steem! I just can't see it being a replacement for Facebook.
