Occasionally when we take walks in our neighbourhood we see the resident moose. A mother moose and her children live here, the Bull Moose isn't as common. These moose are used to people and frequently snack on local shrubs.

Undisturbed by the people snapping photos and walking by, these moose are about 5 meters from the path. We live on the edge of Calgary so wildlife frequently passes through the area but these moose live in the local parks and coulees.

As you can see they are quite at home. A tag is in the mother's ear to keep track of the population. You would have to be a fool to take a baby moose when its parents are around. These animals are huge.

The look less intimidating when they are sitting down but if they are full grown, standing up and on the same plane as you, they can be scary. A female moose is about 6 feet or 1.8m tall and weighs 400 Kilos or almost half a ton. The Males are twenty percent larger and have giant horns.

Here's the moose on another day, about a year ago, before it had its baby. They eat the tree buds in the Spring.

Moose will destroy your lawn and all your plants. There isn't much you can do asides from plant things they don't like to eat.

We wouldn't care if it ate the lower branches on our tree and destroyed the lawn. It would be an honour to have a moose come over for dinner.

People hunt moose in Canada but you definitely can't hunt or get a permit to hunt moose in the city. They are safe here which is why they live in the suburbs.

Thank you for reading and have a nice weekend.

All photos were taken with an iphone 15 pro or an s22 and are unfiltered

Moose aren't afraid of us, I believe they kill more humans here than bears do.

it's an honor to be able to meet them in person. it can be seen from their gazes that they are used to living side by side with humans. cool👍

They're really not a common sight compared to deer and other wildlife
