UV Damage

Can ultra violet light damage or kill plants? The deformation of the top leaf of this seedling I think is caused by to high UV level. UV level 8 is max for this plant. I have a UV reading of 11 today it wiil get as high as 13. I will cover with sun screen until the end of July. I had this problem last year and discovered plants can recover and grow around the damage.

You can build a greenhouse with just a shade at the top, try to find something that leaves you with enough lumens to grow but kills the UV

Yes, either shade it or lose it. The UV is at max level between 10am-2am. Some cloudy days no shade is needed. I need a handheld UV meter for gauging .

I forget where you're suppose to check the plants temperature, but if its below 30, underside of leaf, it will be fine I'd assume, the bigger leaves that are near the top will provide shade for the under side

The temperature is 100° today, the plants hold up to the heat. I lost plants due to misdiagnosis, thinking UV damage was a sign of overwatering. Sativa is more sensitive to UV than afghan. Just have to keep things in balance and learn.
