I have never seen so many red rocks and dirt in all of my life! Very unique and original. This is what part of the trail to Rowe lakes looks like. Due to higher than normal iron deposits, this is the result. Kinda like hiking on Mars. I have hiked all over the Canadian Rockies and nothing really compares to this place, here in Waterton Lakes park, Alberta. I’ll be back in the area this coming July to explore a few more trails, and am expecting more of this kind of reddish trail. Looking forward to that! Thanks for stopping by.

Do they have iron mines there? There's so much of it in that place!

Ironically, no iron mines around here as far as I know.

The red soil is also interesting, it really matches the small trees. I like the third picture, it's spectacular.

Same general area, but different location. Probably about 30 kilometres apart from red rock canyon.

Those are some gorgeous rocks. I love red rocks as well and have been fortunate enough to have lived close to many of them over the years. With all of those iron deposits there must be a lot of old mines in the area as well. Ever run across any of those?

Beautiful shots you have for us today. I guess as close to Mars as you get in the Canadian Rocky mountains! lol Great job!

Another beautiful red rock area, Red Rock Amphitheater just outside of Denver! It's a great place to catch a concert, but it's been years since I've been there!

Surprisingly no, I have not come across any mines, however oddly enough, the first oil well in western Canada is in the neighborhood.

Is that snow I see in that photo?

Yes it is! lol
