Hive Layer 2 Software
May 12, 2025 – I am thrilled to announce live testing of HoneyComb version 1.5, Layer 2 software for Hive. 1.5 significant update that enhances performance, scalability, and decentralization for our blockchain ecosystem. This software promised as part of our DHF Proposal enables many of our promises.
Key Updates in HoneyComb 1.5
This release brings transformative changes to the platform, including:
- Blockchain-State Token Configuration: The most significant change is storing all token configurations directly in the blockchain state. This allows each instance of the HoneyComb to operate its own smart contracts while seamlessly integrating base-layer bug fixes and security updates without modifying forked codebases.
- IPFS Integration for Decentralized Config Files: Users can now build configuration files for new tokens online and store them on IPFS. This enables real-time access to up-to-date information, empowering anyone to join and contribute to the decentralized network ad hoc.
- Transition to ES6: The codebase has been modernized with ES6, improving readability, maintainability, and performance.
- Removal of Legacy Code and Configurations: By eliminating outdated code, we’ve streamlined operations and enhanced security.
- Feature Map: API now contains all the necessary information to drive dynamic UI. Your new features can drive API on conforming front-ends with out asking the front end maintainer to make special considerations for your project.
Testing with SPK Network
Version 1.5 is currently being tested within the SPK Network token ecosystem, which includes over 7,000 lines of configuration/smart contract code. The SPK Network showcases the software’s ability to handle complex, decentralized token ecosystems efficiently, and enables almost all of our pending feature updates.
Future Features with SPK Network
We've been hard at work getting the right features into SPK Network. We've built out:
- A Virtual File System: No long will users have a file contract first view of their files. A familiar folder look and feel will welcome all to enjoy their files much the same as anywhere else.
- Drag and Drop Upload: Drag your file or folders over the new file system, either a contract will be ready for you, or you'll have pre filled in data to make larger contracts.
- Simplified Everything: You can now delete individual files, all the contracts auto update, metadata enforcement allows a traditional trash/recycle bin, and UX shows users only what they need to know to store their files.
Upon the official release of the SPK Network, users will gain access to an online token builder. This tool will allow anyone to create their own token ecosystems and store configurations in the SPK Network’s incentivized file storage system, using Proof of Access.
From NFTs to Breakaway Communities, and all of our dlux.io pipedreams, HoneyComb 1.5 with SPK Network is the largest stepping stone toward our vision of a truly decentralized internet of experiences. A framework for sharing standard content, along with rich medias from video to extended reality.
What’s Next?
The next phase of development will introduce smart contract governance, enabling users to propose and update contracts through decentralized voting. For now, our team is rigorously testing version 1.5 to ensure stability and reliability, along with working toward a final release of SPK Network.
