I love risk, the more the better. More risk means more money, you have to be bold when people are scared in order to make money in cryptocurrency.

@the-ego-is-you | Dec. 18, 2017, 8:32 p.m. | Votes: 0 | [ VOTE ]

True that. Volatility breeds opportunity. Entrepreneurs are those that make money by taking the risk out of ordinary peoples lives and shouldering it for a profit.

I agree about the high transaction fees of BTC , but if we want to transact frequently then we can convert our classic BTC into BCH and take advantage of it's low TX fees and store BTC in a cold storage.

Well you can fund debit card, virtual or physical...that will be accepted everywhere...
use micro wallet like faucethub if you want to tip small amounts online, like pay for tasks...

Just BCH?
- LTC.
- Dash.
- Monero.

Any one of those three has low fees, better devs and less drama than BCH.

@hms818 | Dec. 18, 2017, 8:14 p.m. | Votes: 3 | [ VOTE ]

Not all exchanges support every crypto but those who support BTC has high probability of supporting BCH.

@krischik | Dec. 18, 2017, 10:39 p.m. | Votes: 0 | [ VOTE ]

Mine only allows to sell the BTC created by the fork. But it does fully support Ether, Litecoin and Dash. The much for high probability.

I always thought that the Bitcoin is starting to fall soon because of the rise of Ethereum, Daesh and Litecoin due to their better attributes...

But the name could save the Bitcoin so far and I do not dare to think about the next hard fork announcement may come...

Disagree. They are simply more popular. As such, the more shady people that support them don't stick out as bad.

But they are still all much more useful as currency than BTC Segwit of course.

I don't think it's just the name. If the idea is to use it as a currency and not as a commodity, then the amount of people using it is really important... and common people is far from knowing what's ethereum. But yeah, the transaccion time and fees need to be upgraded.

@geneeverett | Dec. 19, 2017, 3:06 a.m. | Votes: 2 | [ VOTE ]

The problem is bitcoin core wants the fees. They think bitcoin will just be a Store year of value anyway

Maybe you guys can enlighten me, I really don't understand how to value any of these coins. The more that I try to research and watch to learn it seems that every single coin is going to go up. I guess this is possible due to the hype but I would really like to be able to understand before investing my money into it.

@mathsinnature | Dec. 20, 2017, 2:11 p.m. | Votes: 2 | [ VOTE ]

BTC is going up because it is hitting the mainstream but at the moment it is facing some correction.
This failure of rising fast enough makes everybody who understands cryptos to move to other cryptcurrencies like Daesh, BCH or others try to loose less money while BTC goes down and maybe going back when the proce rises again.

BTC has some problems like the high fees which makes it not attractive to be a used as a real currency. But many exchanges uses it as dollar is used in the world. So BTC is the old crypto which everyone needs sometimes to trade but many intelligent people are not trusting the hype of BTC and if you are smart you go directly in the right alternative cryptocurrency like Litecoin, Ethereum, Daesh, ...

But it is difficult to say which one will perform best in the future.
At the moment a lot of new money is coming into the market. That's why all prices are rising...

@fechaugger | Dec. 19, 2017, 9:43 a.m. | Votes: 0 | [ VOTE ]

That 'name' is saving Bitcoin right now. It's the only thing that keeps it standing.

As bitcoin believers say: 'it's all about trust'

So what's going to happen with their 'trust' when BTC starts to fall?

trust in cryptos is very a difficult term because it is so easy to abandon a currency, but Bitcoin is stabilized through people still coming thinking this is the only crypto...

@the-ego-is-you | Dec. 18, 2017, 8:33 p.m. | Votes: 1 | [ VOTE ]

You can, but each time you do that will still cost you transaction fees.

i like thank you for information

@kaimarmalade | Dec. 18, 2017, 10 p.m. | Votes: 0 | [ VOTE ]

I think the next step in decentralization is actually decentralizing an approach to using crypto platforms in general. I think you have the right idea. Digital currency is very liquid so it's relatively easy to move funds from one type of crypto to another. That's where the next gold rush is/is going to be especially if you could make this an automated thing built into the technology itself. You could have a walllet that automatically detects which coin has the highest profit-margins and re-invests its position in those coins that will be more profitable given market-data for that day! You could coordinate the whole thing with TensorFlow or the like!

For me it's all about the prospect of automatic wealth-creation. We could have interest free credit and universal basic income as a result of this emergent technolgy. Here's hoping anyway! < 3

@krischik | Dec. 18, 2017, 10:43 p.m. | Votes: 0 | [ VOTE ]

„that automatically detects“ — they tried that with shares. Failed epically when all algorithms did the same and overreacted.

I prefer converting from BTC to LTC since LTC is fast and fewer transaction fees.

@geneeverett | Dec. 19, 2017, 3:04 a.m. | Votes: 2 | [ VOTE ]

Btc value came from it being a game changer. If these fees and slow transaction times don’t change it won’t be a reliable store of value anymore.

@colleenphyllis | Dec. 19, 2017, 3:46 a.m. | Votes: 0 | [ VOTE ]

Then you should love Bitcoin Cash. It's the most in line with the white paper and actually usable for small and casual transactions without high fees.

It also has a lot of "risk" because of the large resistance to it amongst more recent developers and speculators who only bought Bitcoin Segwit these last few years.

Consider the fact that a lot of people see Bitcoin Segwit as the new world bank and that it behaves more and more like one (high fees for using it without an exchanges "permission" + slow and unreliable transactions). Then think of what price they would put on that....

Doesn't make it the best solution, but it sure makes it a speculative rocket.

@art-universe | Dec. 18, 2017, 8:12 p.m. | Votes: 1 | [ VOTE ]

I don't mind about the transaction fees... bitcoin is in my cold storage - not much, but it will stay there. There are other coins which are interesting. Especially companys with huge partnerships and a bright future in the blockchain industry

You don't mind it because you don't use it as a currency, which it no longer (so far at least) is. Even Ripple is more of a cryptocurrency as of right now, because it can be transfered as payment with low fees.

The transaction fee is high when you do a small amount. I did $15 worth transaction and was charged $6.34 but when incidentally i made another transaction at $60, the fee was just about $4. 32. So I advise you try to make high value transactions.

It should not come as a big surprise that the big banks eventually take over.
No one could really expect that the financial Mafia would watch their business being destroyed without taking action.
Of course they will infiltrate and take over, that is the usual strategy. Otherwise people would mysteriously die.
The real question for me is only whether they are just taking over or if it was their plan in the first place.

You can use BTC as a store of value due to the network security and BCH as a transactional currency due to its low fees if you don’t want to use side chain channels...considering that every BTC hodler before August has the same amount of BCH, there is no need for all this drama.

Honestly I think bitcoin might not be the best path forward in cryptocurrency. It may have been the first, but advancements have been made and implemented into newer cryptocurrencies.

@sirstacksalot | Dec. 19, 2017, 12:10 a.m. | Votes: 4 | [ VOTE ]

it is definitely not the future of crypto. The only thing sustaining it's price is that you usually have to go through BTC to buy and trade the alts.

Yes, that's a very important aspect. Bitcoin is the mainstream coin. As people spend more time in the community, they learn about better coins to invest in. Bitcoin is the gateway, which keeps it alive

I feel bitcoin will always have value as a foundation of cryptocurrency. I think keeping the blocks small so bitcoin doesn't move as often will be the move. I can see BTC acting as a sort of digital reserve currency due to having the longest history and arguably the safest chain.

Now I can see that there is really no full-proof system that 100% will work.
As BTC even BCH which is software and hardware based technology, bugs and hardware limitations will come into play plus people who wants to manipulate the technology to its advantage. I hope that the solution on the end will work with the lightning fast network that they are trying to create for fast transaction. Not sure if 5G will play into this later on.

Thanks for sharing. I now fully grasp the bitcoin and blockchain technology in general.

@dollarvigilante I'm not actually happy about this. For me it's a case of "too soon junior".

This bubble puts me off investing in alt-coins, which I think are going to be the future of crypto. Bitcoin is really quite a flawed currency.

I don't know man. This isn't healthy or sustainable.

Bitcoin is already obsolete, and it's useless for its main use.

I think the sooner we get past bitcoin the better.

My perfect "bitcoin" would be untraceable, instantly convertible to FIAT, and have 100% safe wallets on PC and Smartphone.

It also needs to be non inflationary and infinitely divisible.

What a bullshit video. About the Lightning hubs is really not true. Wallets will implement LN and everyone that put money inside it can be a hub. This means you can create a hub using TOR and be fully anonymously. How will KYC and AML be implemented? Please explain!

I don't know why you are bashing BTC and pumping Bcash, you use exactly the same terms as Roger Ver (this tells me it is not even your own information). You will ruin your reputation because Bitcoin Segwit (as you call it, off course it is just Bitcoin) will outperform hugely and Bcash will die or become irrelevant when Lightning Network get rolled out. You missed the news that the first LN transaction is made already? The only thing to be done is building the UI. We are almost there!

People please not listen to shills like him (Need to be said that I respected Jeff before his flippening) and Roger Ver, but smart people like Andreas Antonopolos and Trace Mayer.

Yes. I don’t mind the high fees because they get my transaction done. I wish they were lower since that was the goal of Bitcoin, but if I need to pay that fee to get my crypto, then I’ll pay it. Bitcoin said it was going to eliminate fees and get rid of the middlemen that plague fiat currency. But the miners have become the middlemen.. and they charge much higher fees than a credit card or debit card or bank in a lot of cases. Bitcoin will explode. But I hope it is headed up way before that happens.

Monero, Ethereum, Iota.... pretty much anything is better than the current shambles that is Bitcoin.
Not too keen on Dash and Litecoin as they don't really bring anything unique to the table....but are indeed functional as currency.
I also love Steem cos it has an obvious use case and it's superfast and with no fees....though maybe its economics need to be ironed out to make it a contender for the top spots .

@oyvindsabo | Dec. 19, 2017, 11:08 a.m. | Votes: 6 | [ VOTE ]

Maybe what we really need is a few currencies which don't bring anything unique to the table, which avoids potential cryptokitties dangers and just works;)

But maybe Litecoin could be a feasible replacement. It does the job with lower fees. Also, Bitcoin Cash is touted as THE replacement. But I’m not very fond of it. I don’t like most of the Bitcoin Forks, though this one may become very successful just because of its name. I don’t like what it brings to the table. I think the most likely case is that Litecoin will outpace Bitcoin in the future and ethereum will remain a second option in the #2 spot. Ethereum has a lot more potential to go up

IOTA is probably the most promising sleeper coin out there. With the proliferation of the "internet of things" a coin that operates within those transactions will out play everyone in the game. It's likely to take a few more years to fully integrate but once that happens it will skyrocket

Yes. IOTA is a great technology. The Tangle tech compared to the Blockchain is much better. However, it has its problems. People will know in the future. If these alt-coin get too big heights. They will get more media coverage.

Remember, most of the non-coiners have absolutly no Idea about crypto-currencies. Every now and then, the media reports about 'BTC reaches $10.000'. But they don't know much else about it.

The only reason that BTC is getting media coverage, that's because 'it's a good investment, with 1700% returns'. They aren't interesting in the technology behind it. They only care about the potential profits.

So if alt-coins like Steem are getting more profits, they will be mentioned in the media, too.

You make a solid point. That is how I have interpreted it as well. I think they are buying it as an investment and not realizing that it is also a currency... but it leads them to the water that is alt coins.

Well Bitcoin can’t be a currency in its current state. Its not possible. But I also believe that with enough people investing in these cryptos, the prices will stabilize, which would allow for it to be a currency

You have high fees because the people are buying. Bitcoin represent a bitcoin store of value, 50% of marketcap. Also in order to buy altcoins you need to buy bitcoin. Bitcoin will grow as long as will keep the marketcap higher than 50%.

Right now, taking into account the high value of BTC is probably a good moment for anyone that has investments to diversify with some altcoins. Not only with the main ones, people should start to purchase/mine some small amounts of the altcoins that are extremely low in value but have a good volume. With a BTC high, even if it doesn't crash we will see some corrections on its value that could be used to gain a porfit in the altcoin exchange.

And always keep some of the interesting alts as long term investments. You don't really need grat amounts of BTC to do this, just around fifty thousand satoshis will do. You never know their value in one year or two.

I can tell everyone with assurance that Ethereum is headed to be number 1 right now! As soon as people are more educated they are going to see this. I'm telling you RIGHT NOW. ETHEREUM IS THE BEST BUY YOU COULD POSSIBLY MAKE RIGHT NOW BASED ON EVERYTHING I KNOW! Of coarse this is not investment advice. Hold me to this if you want. I am already holding myself to it putting my face to it. Ether is hitting $1500 by new years and $5000 Jan or Feb 2018.. possibly more and I could be off the number could be HIGHER!

I really don't get this whole "this coin is shitcoin, that coin is going to take over" talk. If you are talking from a purely speculative point of view, maybe it is. But competition is key in a healthy economy and there is much more to cryptocurrency than its sheer USD value. A lot of alt-coins solve some problems bitcoin has and therefore, puts pressure on bitcoin to become a better coin. Bottom line is, there is no silver bullet, different problems, different solutions.

The fees are making it unusable but I just sent some BCH and the low suggestion was $1.. if it was worth 10x (btc), then it would be $10.. lightning network is censorship resistant and non-custodial (no kyc). It will incentivise hosting nodes and give hodlers ability to earn interest. Please interview some people from blockstream..

@demotruk | Dec. 19, 2017, 12:17 p.m. | Votes: 2 | [ VOTE ]

That's wallet software which determines the fee. You can choose a smarter wallet which uses lower fees. The same could be said for BTC, but the difference is that if you did such a fee on BTC you'll be waiting hours or days. You can put 1 satoshi per byte on a BCH transaction and it will still confirm in a reasonable timeframe.

Already stopped using bitcoin but the way this system is set up, it's pretty hard to avoid. As for fee's I usually purchase ETH or LTC from coinbase and send to my exchange of choice - buying anything else other than BTC will be cheaper on the fees - just as quick or quicker of a transaction.

Hy.Bitcoin will get the Lightning Network soon with lower fees than Bcash, which will make Bcash irrelevant. 2. You can't just increase the blocksize indefinately, cause that brings a lot of problems with it. 3. There's already a currency for cheap on-chain transactions since 2014, called Litecoin, which unlike Bcash will work together with Bitcoin via Atomic Swaps. Why would you leave these facts out? Bcash will be obsolete in a couple of months. - And by the way Litecoin is 4 times faster than Bcash. So creating Bcash in the first place made no sense at all, except for power grabs.

In a couple of years when btc reaches 200k+ all the "lending" platforms will fail as they can't pay out such high interests with no bussines plan. Causing BTC to fall to 100$ and causing the economic colapse.

It's not just Bitcoin, Altcoins are going crazy as well. Just invest in any altcoin and it will be up or down 20% within 24 hours. It's a highly volatile market, do you call it a good investment, seems like a gambling to me. This market is so crazy. I just feel bad for the people holding the last bags of the coins, they will probably lose all of their money. Initial investors are very happy as they made so much money and cashed out. I bet you this market will crash very soon, I don't know exactly when but it will be a big crash.

Every coin should be backed by a revenue generating business, then it's a smart investment, but right now these are all speculations. Money is being generated from money, everything is digital, there is no physical activity or tangible asset, apart from waste of lots energy. I like steem coin though, at least there is some business value to it. All the people who are so confident about this revolutionary breakthrough blockchain technology, I'll see their reaction when Government will intervene, they will be the first ones to chicken out. Do you really think Government and all of these big banks will let you have it your way. If Government bans it or regulate it, it will lose all the attraction/perks and everything will go back to normal.

I think satoshi Sakamoto should be around of the great innovation that he brought in the monetary system. A system that has no one to control it.
It is in fact a great definition of free market where the government has no place and trends in the market determines the price.
Let's embrace Bitcoin

For bitcoin and other crypthos to function as a means of payment, it needs to be stable. A world in which your money buys you a large latte today, but only a small espresso tomorrow, is hardly convenient.

Same guy saying it would go all the way to the top now saying its uncertain at $19,000? You have a lot of explaining... You’re should be rallying the masses, not scaring them. There is no way to lose when you have alt coins. Value will be transfered to new coins and the conscious will thrive. Bitcoin will retain value as a relic much like gold... and other coins will be used for daily transactions. Cryptocurrency is here to stay!

I could not agree more, the paradox is the more popular bitcoin becomes the more nervous I feel, wish it just went back to being the supposed "demon" it use to be, at least then we knew what was happening, now the institutions just pumping dumping and inflating the price right out of the hands of the very masses it was supposed to help. Returning us to the "man" and banking systems we tried so hard to get away from :-(

While Coinbase & Bitpay continue to rip you all off by not adopting SegWit, you might learn to calculate your own fees. My mobile wallet ‘suggested’ a $50 fee on Saturday, so I used custom fee option on my Greenbits wallet with RBF enabled, and did it for $2.50. Yes it DID take almost 1 day. Bitcoin will re-route around these bad actors in time, and layer 2 is coming. Don’t be caught holding a lot of altcoin the day Bitcoin is unshackled.

High fees are annoying, but LItecoin and Dash etc don’t have users like Bitcoin does... their blockchains are not inherently superior to Bitcoin’s. They are merely uncongested like Bitcoin used to be.

Remember this one fact... can a lawsuit take down your favorite altcoin or its 2 or 3 devs? If so, it is a shitcoin and you will be rekt sooner or later by buying and holding it regardless of its current price.

Generally - we all can see that bitcoin is getting to the mainstream - more and more people begin to search for ways to invest in cryptocurrencies, companies dealing with crypto are growing and entering the stock market, banks begin to consider trading in crypto etc...
I do not see any reason for concern in the next few months.
Still - it will be nice if crypto and especially BTC will gain some more value in the real world - buying things etc.

Litecoin should be announcing the release of mast soon, which makes smart contracts practical with Litecoin. The masses will soon realize Litecoin is undervalued, and more useful than Bitcoin.

The problem with bitcoin is that it is too volatile to be used as a currency. Do I wish that I had bought it in 2009, sure but now that there are futures trading in it, watch the Wall Street guys take advantage. Remember also that bitcoin is totally virtual, so what happens if the www goes down? As I said, I wish I had some but now it is getting scary.

Everyday the prices of Bitcoin goes up and now it has gone down. People are going crazy about it and no one actually using it the way it should be use, like money. Instead people are treating Bitcoin like stock.

This is bad, because when theprice of bitcoin will fall people will end up losing a lot of money.

@dollarvigilate - I believe the media hype is what is causing more and more people jumping into Bitcoin today - it's nto based on logic or reasoning - just the fact that it's been gaining colosally and everybody knows about it.. I'm supposing that will continue for some more time.

As an uninformed investor (gambler?) I took a chance on bitcoin and have found it to Ben rewardingly thus far! It’s difficult to judge if pulling out or playing the lon game makes sense with this weeks speculations!

This is a proof of work “fraud” from Coinbase! Make sure you use your calculator before you make any transaction on this platform. Not only the calculated fee is higher than the displayed fee, in addition to that an entirely hidden charge will be revealed on top of all charges, if you are smart enough to spot it.
Leave your comment below, I am in search of a transparent place to buy cryptos and will share my experience with you guys so you can avoid these so-called trusted websites!

Ethereum is going to explode to even higher levels in the year of 2018. Developers can run their applications on the Ethereum blockchain network at a cost for Ether coins which will lead to a higher demand for Ether. Ether can also be used for other purposes such as buying property and a many other use cases.

Just a street away from Singapore's central bank, a cryptocurrency firm has set up what it claims is the first cafe in the city-state to be owned and operated by a business promoting its own digital coin.

The downtown pitstop, which launched on Thursday, sells "hand brew" coffee, sandwiches and eco-friendly beauty products and accepts bitcoin, its own virtual currency called Ducatus and other cashless payments.

Its push to promote the use of its own currency through commercial enterprise, rather than speculative investment, comes the same week the Monetary Authority of Singapore urged investors to exercise "extreme caution" towards the cryptocurrency market, which many feel is in a bubble.

"We just want to make sure people understand that cryptocurrencies are here to stay," Ducatus CEO Ronny Tome told Reuters, adding he had plans to open more cafes in other countries and team up with hotels and travel agencies.

"The way technology develops and grows right now, there is no doubt about that. Developments are rapid and the governments maybe have a little bit of an issue to follow through."

Tome said he welcomed Singapore's efforts to educate people about cryptocurrencies, including warnings against speculative behaviour, but did not think it would impact his business.

The booming global interest in cryptocurrencies means Singapore - which has positioned itself as a hub for financial technology in Asia - has to walk a fine line between encouraging technological innovation and reducing financial system risk within its borders.

While the central bank worries about potential losses for its citizens and money laundering through cryptocurrencies, it is carrying out extensive research into the blockchain distributed ledger technology that underlies bitcoin.

Anson Zeall, who heads a local association of cryptocurrency firms in Singapore, said that while the country promotes itself as an easy place to do business for fintechs, banks have been shutting down accounts of some cryptocurrency firms and exchanges in recent years.

Singapore's concerns echo those expressed by regulators in other jurisdictions such as Australia and South Korea.

Deloitte's head of financial crime for Asia Pacific, Tim Phillipps, expects policymakers' warnings will only increase as the virtual currency investment community broadens.

"The regulators generally around the world are worried about less sophisticated investors getting drawn in to what is a pretty murky and dark market," said Phillipps.
