For most of my life I have seen my dad with gray hair; I mentioned that in a post here. As I grew up, I understood that having a dad with gray hair, who looked like a grandfather, wasn’t such a good thing, because it could mean I would have him for less time, and that was always my fear.
I also told you about a mountain I would have to climb at some point. That moment is near. I am standing right in front of it, and it is not my desire to climb it, but it will be necessary (speaking metaphorically).
My dad was diagnosed at the beginning of last year with ascending colon cancer; you can read about it here. In November 2025 he received a second diagnosis: “malnutrition,” not because we don’t feed him, but because he could hardly eat anything anymore, and he truly lost the taste for food due to chemotherapy. In December, by his own decision, he chose to stop chemotherapy—something I personally did not want and did not agree with, but I supported him; it is the most I can do for my father.
Yesterday he was hospitalized as an emergency because, as the surgeon had warned us from the beginning, my dad could develop an obstruction, since the tumor is in the intestine and it is blocking at the “ileum.” He currently has a tube to drain fluids from his stomach, another to drain fluids from his abdomen, and another to drain urine. The doctor told us that his intestinal loops are very dilated.
Since the tumor is large, surgery is not possible; if it were attempted, it would be high risk. So medically there is not much more that can be done for my dad, but as they say: hope is the last thing you lose.
I am not someone who asks for help; I am someone who helps. So I am not asking for help for myself, but for him—to help cover the medical expenses or those that may come, which we all know about but no one talks about. I understand that the situation is not easy for many, so every prayer also counts, and I am grateful for it.
I also hope that when it is my turn to climb the mountain (to cry for my father), no one will stop me, and if later you see me smile, please do not judge me.
