I have not published a post here on Hive Niger for a long time now, but something bothers me, and I want to speak about it; but I cannot tell it to anyone else but us. I cannot tell it to them because it does not concern them; or probably it does, since we are all humans, but definitely not directly.

Every day in my prayer, I ask that God help us change our attitude and ideology. It has haunted us for years, yet we have refused to change. I am talking about us; Nigerians. I am also a victim, but I have started my journey of improvement by realising that it is a problem, and I am also ready to work towards getting rid of it.
Politics, for some reason, has been considered a thing for unprincipled men, for reasons that I am yet to place my fingers on. Leadership is a wonderful thing, and an unprincipled man would never be deserving of leadership. But then, we Nigerians have for some reason, reserved positions of leadership for unprincipled men and women. Now, it is very easy to oppose this assertion merely by opining that it is a lie. But pause to think about it for a while before you oppose the assertion.
I listened to a speech by Professor Yemi Osinbajo, and he made a very powerful point. In his opinion, it is a matter of life or death that Christian leaders become part of secular politics and leadership. For me, it goes beyond those who are merely called Christians. I choose to replace that with men and women of principle, and that is for me all it takes.
If you are part of those who have planned to sit back at home, watch television, or play football on the main roads on election day, then this post is majorly directed to you. By participating in politics, you do not necessarily need to contest for a political position. You can simply be a part of the movement by carrying out your civil duty.
I have been praying for Nigeria, but not for God to change Nigeria. No! It is not, and will never be in the hands of God to change our nation; it has always been in our hands. I only pray that God helps us realise that, and I hope He does, because it has now become a matter of life and death. Putting the different arms of government, security institutions, commissions, and every other sector of government into consideration, we would have a little above 100,000 leaders. On the other hand, we have about 230 to 240 million citizens who have for some reason, decided to leave leadership in the hands of a few unprincipled men and women.
Some would say, “But we have tried before. There is nothing that could be done to defeat these people; they are more powerful than we are.” But then, I refuse to agree with that. I do not propose that we attempt once and stop; I propose that it becomes part of our nature to fight against injustice, bad governance, corruption, and all the other things gradually sinking our country. I am proposing that we become determined, determined enough that we would do whatever we can without hesitation to save our nation.
The only way we can make a difference is by participating; and by not participating, you are probably doing more harm than the corrupt leaders. Come 2027, do not hesitate to do everything in your power. God bless Nigeria!
