I totally agree, I was initially really optimistic about their project. I was a bit turned off by their CEO after seeing his interview on supomans channel, the guy just doesn't strike me as a smart businessman or a leader.

They say one thing to get the support of the Steemit community and then change course and don't use SMT and cancel the airdrop. I was whitelisted but the whitelist sale was such a shitshow I decided not to invest

I wasn't aware that Vice changed their minds about the airdrop and have chosen to fork. As you suggest, it will be a good to compare how Vice get on with the additional work with another project that go straight in with the more straight-forward SMT approach.

Others projects may look at these early test cases to make a decision. I hope it goes smoothly for Vice, and if not, they can always apply some lubrication I guess! :D

Mark @exyle if there is one thing I know about Business its that when you change your mind about your direction you tend to turn people OFF to you altogether. I think Vice is interesting and I was looking forward to an AirDrop but now since that is canceled to be brutally honest, I really don't care about them anymore. I feel in a way a little betrayed but stay POSITIVE and Life moves Forward.................

I feel the same way, I feel like initially they treid to get the support of the Steemit community and then decided they could care less about us. The whitelist sale was handled pretty poorly and was pretty chaotic and though I signed up for it I decided not to invest.

Indeed, I've lost what little interest I had in the project by proxy.

I'm still interested what they will do with the blockchain now that they forked it. I'm not investing atm.

Whatever their reason for not continuing with the steem blockchain.They will still manage to get by even though they are going to have an uphill task of creating their own blockchain.

The fact that they forked the steem blockchain over SMTS says a lot.
Exyle spelled it out for you. Rather than use an SMT (which is a non existence atm) they chose to go through all what Exyle described...
- Team, Servers, Witnesses, Developers, etc.. etc..
Sure they are a Big Company, and to be honest, I wondered why they didn't do what they did back when they announced they were interested in SMTs.

There was clearly an issue. Either between the two entities (Steemit Inc + Vice) or they could not reach agreement under representation. Or, they did not see SMTs as a solution.
Either because of the delay in their existence or in the way that they would be implemented.

There is much more to this.. and there is much more to SMTs. I've had this hunch for a while and have come across certain things that hint towards some underlying issue(s). It just doesn't make sense that they would take so long. I don't think that the team is incompetent. I DO think that they know how badly steem needs their existence. It only leaves one wondering why... why are they so delayed.

Communities... at least... fucken hell steemit Inc.

But some whales are saying SMT projects like Appics are putting their steem investments in Risk as they are announcing and funding the project when SMT itself isn't a real product yet...I read it just yesterday somewhere in comments, unlike what you always say SMT will only increase value of steem. I am so much confused right now.

As long as SMT's are not here we can't be sure if they will work indeed. That is a risk I guess.

I believe they will work and will come out this year and I'm sure Appics believes this as well.

As a project, you can, of course, decide to wait for SMT's to be released before you develop anything for them but then you will be behind when they do come out.

SMT's will increase the value of STEEM because SMT's require bandwidth on the STEEM blockchain. You need Steempower to 'pay' for this bandwidth.

Hmmm. Well I won't go into what I feel about Vice but I like your explanation as to what makes the SMTs more attractive to most companies.

I've stopped buying BTC/Steem again in the hope that it will go back down. I'm hopeless can't stick to anyone strategy. I was buying a bit each day and going for averages as you suggested @exyle but then it plummeted again and I now I'm waiting for it to come back down. 😂

It takes some time to get used to sticking to a strategy. You will get used to it. Just take it slow while you learn, don't go to mental please :)

VICE thing could have been very hug of the STEEM blockchain. Its okay At least they considered STEEM blockchain as a suitable candidate. Its just a matter of time when some big company like VICE utilize SMT

Initially I was kind of excited about the Vice ICO, I signed up for the whitelist sale, however I really didn't care for how they managed their Telegram group, as it got closer to the ICO got less and less interested in investing. The presale or whitelist sale was kind of unorganized, their addresses weren't working, things really weren't clear. At that point I decided not to invest, partially because I didn't have that much faith in the project and partially because I figured hey I'll be getting airdropped coins anyway. In the end decided not to invest and am happy with my decision.

I have no invested either I'm still interested in what they will do with this blockchain (forked).

I've often wondered whether porn would do well on a blockchain.

The lure of VHS, DVD, Laserdisc, then the internet for porn was anonymity. Prior to these technological wonders, the option was theaters or peep show.

I'll also have to do some "research" to see what user information is captured when you visit. Because, as we all know, with the blockchain, our grandchildren will be able to look at the history and tell their friends that "My grandpa use to watch this video back in the 'teens"
