welcome to the penguin world, i gave up windows a few years ago and i switched to kali linux and it has served me well and it has no bugs to worry about

thanks yea, so much time lost on windows the past year or two, they really are doing a great job getting people to quit using their crappy non free cost product. I hope to move to some BSD licensed OS at some point

Best of luck with the change. I built a Linux system (lower end system so only used Elementary) last year but have not switched over yet. Just testing the waters. Got to push myself to make the switch. Certainly frustrated with Windows and have no desire to get caught up in the Mac propriatary world.

So far I am happy and still have my 2nd screen working. That is what pushed me over the edge was the updates kept making my 2nd monitor not work which is just unacceptable. So much more efficient having 2 screens.

Yeh i still use windows for video editing.kdenlive is good but i always end up spending most the time trying to fix kdenlive and video takes ages to get finished.lolBut linux is great.

will have to check it out if I dont have my own editor made once I move to FreeBSD/

Cool, I've been using linux since I got rid of windows ME. I use it to create music and can do anything any other media creator can do. Currently I'm using Elementary OS with KX studio repositories. I use KDENlive for video editing and Bitwig Studio for audio. What distro are you using? Also If I need to run any windows (I-tunes mainly) software I have virtual box installed so I can boot into windows to update tunes on my phone. If you need any help with command line stuff feel free to get in touch. Oh I have also installed a N64 emulator and PSX emulator working with an xbox 360 controller. Linux is the smart persons OS.

Ubuntu for me, are those free, may check them out, but planning to still use adobe on my windows for current round of video editing. May set something up on linux, but now all my HD space in different partitions, idk. can't wait until I migrate to FreeBSD and make my own unified system I own and have it set up for all my purposes and need not switch from proprietary to restrictive licensed OSs

Argh, I hear you. The umpteen zillion updates (always at the worst time possible) AND I was pissed that Microsoft word, excel, etc now come with a 1yr price tag. One day, when I no longer have my franchise and no longer need Microsoft products I too will be switching.

It's so terrible. Yea I had to switch to libre office a few months ago. Some formatting issues which are a drag, but otherwise free, with some syntax difference for spreadsheets and stuff. And the processor not as user friendly but if you want to make PDF's so you know it retains format probably good for that purpose. What a croc having to pay yearly fees now for programs largely written 20+ years ago.

I loved this post, 🤗 all the talk has been FB and youtube no one talks about how much windows has sucked since Win98. New Win10 uses my pc more than I do, is Linux hard to use or user-friendly?

Linux has been great so far, had some trouble playing a video from my camera so probably keep with windows for a while for video editing. Linux is only intermediate for me, soon will move to a BSD licensed system so I can own everything
