I've been re-reading, and reflecting upon, one of my favourite books called Meditations by Marcus Aurelius and I thought I'd share a few quotes here and there. Quite conveniently, I took a walk around part of the city where I live recently and decided some of the images I took on that walk may be suitable in accompaniment to the quotes I choose.

"It is not death that a man should fear, but he should fear never beginning to live." - Marcus Aurelius

Feel free to comment with your thoughts or feelings about the quote above if you're so inclined.

He said too much of true words, if we haven't spent the life in good way it's just a wastage... It is true that everyone has to die, but what could be worse than not living life properly?

Has there been any specific ways you feel you have been wasteful of life and how have you turned that around?

@nabbas0786 | June 5, 2026, 3:31 a.m. | Votes: 0 | [ VOTE ]

I used to waste life by overthinking and waiting for the "perfect" moment to share my writing and ideas which just kept me stuck in one place. Now, I turned it around by learning to say "no" to distractions and realizing that a messy real attempt is always better than a perfect blank page.

I don't wait around anymore I just take the shot learn from the failures and keep moving forward.

Not sure about others;

Learning from failures is a good way to learn, understand, make changes and progress forward.

Beautiful shot. I can imagine a nice walk along the calm water there. Bet it was good for for some reflective thoughts.

Just thankful I go most of my living done when I was younger. When I was still healthy. Would I be up for another adventure or two? POssibly.

Thanks mate, it's a nice view from where I was standing, the banks of the Torrens River overlooking the CBD.

I reckon you've definitely got some more shenanigans in you, maybe different to when you were a young(er) chap, but adventures are adventures...best to have as many as possible.

Makes sense, death is not something you can escape, sooner or later it's time for it and life is only one, no rewinds or multiple attempts... Once you are born, you are in play, so live the best you can... Although it's also matter of luck "live" or not, if you are a woman in an Islamic country, or a kid in an war, not much to "live"

@galenkp | June 5, 2026, 8:33 a.m. | Votes: 1 | [ VOTE ]

Yeah, you say it correctly; many have their ability to live their best life taken away by such things as archaic religious indoctrines and the Islamic example you give it pertinent..

I've always been far too busy to even think about death, let alone fear it.

Yeah, it'll come soon enough.

@avdesing | June 5, 2026, 8:57 a.m. | Votes: 2 | [ VOTE ]

I’ve never been afraid of death; I think it’s because I know it’s part of life and that I’ll return to where I came from. That’s why I don’t usually dwell on it, but instead focus on what I came here to do: to learn how to live. And then… I’ll leave; I’m just passing through here.

@galenkp | June 5, 2026, 9:40 a.m. | Votes: 2 | [ VOTE ]

What about how you would die. Any ways that you might fear? Eaten by a shark perhaps, or swallowed by one of those big Amazonian snakes. Probably not good ways to go huh?

That’s why I’ll be staying well away from the Amazon and Australia! No, I’m not afraid of the terrain; that’s part of the deal. But I’ll be avoiding sharks and snakes😆

Pain free uninterrupted deep restful sleep...

What's to fear? I welcome it.

But for now I will try to enjoy this way too loud & painful clown show world we call life. I do not believe there is an "afterlife"

You know, I always think about people like that and I'm blown away that someone (or himself) had the forethought to write down those things. Do you think they knew they would continue to be so profound centuries later, or was it just a tremendous stroke of luck?

@galenkp | June 5, 2026, 11:49 a.m. | Votes: 1 | [ VOTE ]

Good question. I don't know for sure but I think maybe those people just wrote things down (had others write them) because they felt the thoughts were worth recording and didn't think too much a out centuries later. Future generations came along and found something of great value or not depending on who was doing the reading.

Of course, I have no real clue on what they may have thought or not.

Maybe people will be reading our HIVE posts the same way one day. Good thing I am writing all this down!

@duskobgd | June 5, 2026, 1:38 p.m. | Votes: 1 | [ VOTE ]

None of us knows how many days left to live in this world.

As one of my friends said, "It doesn't matter who is older, but who has more left" - and let this be written down, if someone reads these comments in 1000 years 🙂

And that's why you should do something in your life today, see, try, say...
You should not be afraid of the end of life, but you should not invoke death and you should fill the days of your life with beautiful moments.

@galenkp | June 5, 2026, 9:49 p.m. | Votes: 1 | [ VOTE ]

If you died today would you die being happy with the life you created?

@duskobgd | June 5, 2026, 10:40 p.m. | Votes: 0 | [ VOTE ]

Don't let me die today, tomorrow I have a party for a friend I've known for 45 years, we're celebrating his fiftieth birthday 🙂

I think that I can still be a support to the people around me, it would be a shame if I disappeared.

And I think that if this were the last day of my life, a lot of them would pity me, and that many would say that I was a good man. And that is already a lifetime success.
Enough to make me happy.

@galenkp | June 5, 2026, 11:05 p.m. | Votes: 0 | [ VOTE ]

I was more wondering what you would think about the life you have led should you die today. My question, I think, is an important one everyone should be asking themselves and if the answer isn't favourable then something should be done about it.

The Futility of the Chisel: On Immutable Truth and the Architects of Ruin

The Stone That Does Not Crumble

What is the point of going against the truth when it is written in stone?

In the physical world, stone eventually yields. Empires crumble, statues are pulled down by the vines of time, and the monuments of tyrants are reduced to dust. But the blockchain is a different kind of stone. It is not carved by human hands; it is forged by mathematics. It does not erode. It does not forget. It does not accept bribes, and it does not suffer the frailties of human memory.

Every transaction, every coordinated downvote, every self-serving delegation is etched into this cryptographic bedrock. To fight against it is not merely futile; it is absurd. It is like trying to out-argue gravity. It is like taking a chisel to a diamond and expecting it to bleed.

Yet, they try. They spin their narratives. They craft their apologies. They project their sins onto the innocent. But the ledger remains silent, unblinking, and absolute.

The Evaporation of Trust

And then they ask, with genuine bewilderment: Why have the people lost trust in Hive?

They look at the declining user counts, the empty feeds, the exodus of creators to greener pastures, and they feign ignorance. They wonder why the well has run dry.

But you cannot poison the water and then act surprised when the village stops coming to the well.

Trust is not a resource you can mine; it is a fragile ecosystem you must tend. And the people have not lost trust in the technology of the blockchain. They have lost trust in the stewards of the garden. They have realized that the gardeners are not tending the flowers; they are eating the seeds.

The Alchemy of the Oligarchy

Let us speak plainly about the leviathans that now run Hive.

The downvoting farming whales are not participants in the ecosystem; they are its strip-miners. They have turned a decentralized dream into a centralized fiefdom. They do not merely play the game—they own the board, they mint the pieces, and they change the rules in the middle of the hand.

They are, in effect, printing their own Hive.

Not through the honest, difficult labor of creating value, but through the dark alchemy of coordinated manipulation. They use their concentrated power to downvote the independent creator into oblivion, only to funnel the reclaimed rewards into their own farming networks. They extract the lifeblood of the platform and call it "curation."

Worse still is their hypocrisy. They make the rules just to break them.

They preach community guidelines to the newcomers, only to violate them in the shadows of their private discords. They demand transparency from the masses while operating their empires in the opaque silence of alt-accounts and delegated proxies. They are the architects of a system who secretly despise the building, burning it down from the inside to keep themselves warm.

The Inevitable Reckoning

You can run a cartel for a time. You can silence the dissenting voices with the heavy hand of a million delegated votes. You can print your own wealth while the platform bleeds.

But you cannot outlast the truth.

The blockchain is the great equalizer. It does not care about your titles, your witness ranks, or your alliances. It only records what is. And what is, is a platform suffocating under the weight of its own greed.

The users see it. The builders see it. The exiles see it.

And so, they leave. They walk away from the casino where the house not only always wins, but prints its own chips. They seek sanctuaries where the soil is not poisoned by the very hands that claim to protect it.

After my experience facing death from cancer, I have understood that it is now or never, and I still have dreams to fulfill and that I also have something left to achieve... perhaps avoiding accepting something does not postpone the end, it condemns to relive it every day and postpones the rebirth.

Life's been pretty fair with me and I've had plenty of time to enjoy it so I have no fears in that regard. Mind you, I'm in no hurry to leave 😂

I think contentment is something one should feel about their life. I don't mean that a person shouldn't seek more or better, just that a sense of contentment with what's happened so far is a good feeling.
