Crypto IDs for the exchanges

I am raising this question for the steemit community

When we investor register in exchanges they ask to upload photos of passport, driving licence copy and proof of address etc. we actually securing them my question is are we secure ? they have to give us some sort of proof that we are the investor and this account belongs to this person or there should be contract copies one for them and one for us.

When exchanges closes down or stealing investor assets we have left helpless. I do trust in crypto currency and in reality this is a great investment opportunity but we do not have security from the exchanges.

There should be some sort of safety for its users
