Hive Birthday Calendar

Hey, birthdays are a huge deal! Well... actually, our relationship with them changes over time. The more candles there are on the cake, the less we tend to look forward to them. And once they barely fit on a regular-sized cake anymore... And do you really wanna become an XL-caker? Well, let's move on to happier topics! Luckily, even the oldest Hive veterans still have plenty of room on their virtual cakes when it comes to Hive birthdays.

So, aren't you curious about who will be celebrating their Hive-day during Hive Fest in Barcelona? Lucky them, eh? Or who you should throw an H-day party for next week? Not that we normally exchange gifts here, but who knows... Over the years, people from the other side of the world whom we only know through the blockchain and Discord can become closer to us than the folks we bump into every day at work. Perhaps precisely for all that bumping.

Over the weekend, I was playing around with Claude once again. One of the outcomes is this simple website that lists Hive birthdays and the account age of the users you follow. Well, or anybody else follows, for that matter. No login needed. Follower lists aren’t secret anyway. Thanks to some great feedback from @honeydue and @demotruk, it’s now a tad niftier than the first version.

For now, the page is hosted on GitHub Pages and it’ll probably stay there, as it was just a fun little side project. It can export an .ics file for you, so you can sync the output with any calendar app. Even though that's admittedly kinda overkill. It also generates a JSON file, just in case you feel like playing around with the data further.

Well, to quote the classic: That's all, folks! Feel free to share your thoughts!

Very cool! I celebrated a real birthday this weekend and you are right, they just aren't quite as special the higher the number gets. Though I think that might be different for HIVE!

Trick question, right?

This so cool!!!

What would be great if I could see who has the same birthday as me (or any user) but I imagine that would take forever to scan all the accounts on Hive.

Well, with over 2.6 million accounts on Hive, around 7,000 of them would probably share your birthday :)

Not necessarily coz a big bulk of the accounts are probably bots created at the same time reducing the numbers significantly... Or 1/365 chance increasing it 😄

That's a pretty good idea and calendar. Who doesn't want to celebrate smaller or bigger achievements? 😀

Re-blogged! Will read it later and edit this comment; setting a reminder for myself;

This is a great tool for staying connected with the community. Filtering inactive accounts is a very useful feature.
