The news here leads most of us to believe the strikes were only being conducted near the border where Hezbollah might be concentrated. Of course, maybe you're near the border, or maybe the strikes are spread further through the country than our media is reporting. You and Yaz are our only "eyes and ears on the ground" over there, as far as I know. If there are other Hiveans near you, I don't know about them, and the media certainly doesn't tell the complete story.

PHEW, so true. It's hard to even begin to put words to that, I could probably write an entire article about it... In summary of my understanding/ experience- Syria is not being hit directly because everything valuable has already been decimated. The country is no longer a threat to Israel because they essentially demilitarized the government here last year. Over the course of a few days they bombed every significant military asset here. There are also no US assets here, so Iran has no reason to waste money dropping iron on us directly.

HOWEVER, Israel occupies a lot of southwest Syria these days, and they also have a long-standing partnership with the Druze, whose main concentration is in Suweyda. I live in the capital, which is only a skip and hop from where the new "buffer zone" is. So when Iran is shooting at certain areas in Israel the missiles pass over us, and are shot down before they reach Israeli turf. They have been kind in trying not to shoot them down directly over the city, but some have fallen in the suburbs of Damascus. Even a few miles away they are not fun to hear, you can feel them when they explode above. For most Syrians this is literally nothing at this point, but for me it is scary as all heck.

Theres so many more little details to it all, Syria is nothing if not complicated, but that's the meat of it.

Lots of love to you lady, it means a lot to know that I still have friends here, that I can still lay a few thoughts down on the ole blocks 💗

These last few years have been so full; equal parts beauty and eviscerating new awarenesses... Dealing with some stability being swept from under my feet due to weird Hive politics solidified a sort of bitterness in me that had been brewing steadily... Hive always felt like an oasis to me because of the good things you mentioned, it hurt to be disillusioned by life from so many angles all at once. It's sad that BS happens to so many of us here; I'm bummed to hear that Hive's less cool side has affected you as well. Without the friendships formed here I think the whole thing would fall apart.

I'm glad you're (relatively) safe, that you're living life to the best of your ability, and most of all that you two have one another. I think it's one of the most amazing love stories of all time, quite honestly. (I really mean that. It should be written up in an article or a TV mini-series or something.) And it's so incredible and inspiring that you are so in love that you'll live in a war-torn and dangerous part of the world to be with the love of your life!

p.s. I'm not very active on Hive these days either, except as a community admin. Hive has so many challenges, as you have experienced. It's heartbreaking, because it had SO much promise. But suffers under the weight of its own political challenges.

I think when there is too much going on, both of us tend to just get quiet... These last few years have been a wild ride for Yaz and I, but one I know neither of us would change.

There's been a lot of adjustments; scary experiences... But also, a million more wonderful ones- many say that love is insanity, but I feel more sane sitting in Syria with the one I love than back in the states, that's for sure! Yaz is my rock, and whatever may come I'll always stay by his side.

Gosh that's the truth! I'm glad The Ink Well is still going strong though, it was one of the first places I felt I fit in here... And coincidentally the place I got to harass Yaz in and find out how wonderful he is ahahaha!

My discord hiatus will probably endure for some time, but I can reach out to you on Yaz's account... I hope life is being kind to you and that you and the fam are enjoying the beginning of Spring ❤️

Life is good for me. I have a baby granddaughter now, and I am retiring at the end of May, with a plan to put much more time into creative writing!
