The ancient language of ivrit ( עברית ) Genesis #11

Welcome back to my DTube Hebrew reading & language series.

The full study is now on line covering the Alef-Beyt here in my blog. This is a beginners program to teach letters, vowels, and reading. The vowels are marked in this bible and are designed to help avoid confusion on what a word is and how it is pronounced. The confusion is obvious in the hundreds of interpretations globally. In modern Hebrew, only children need a niqqud or vowel marking for each letter. Old manuscripts also usually have vowels marked.

my own braided bread

This week I had guests and spent the day before sunset creating a meal including home made challah, fish, and vegetables served with wine. I truly relaxed during shabbat.

This week's reading is from Genesis 1:22-23

We are in the fourth day as God blesses the creatures in the waters and the birds telling them to multiply and fill the earth.

There is a plan, and there is an end in that plan. He said, "Fill the the waters and in the seas and let the birds multiply on the earth." I see no problem with that continuing until the end.

written on phone screen

Them and You

In this reading we see the direct object, or the receiver of the action (the blessing), "and he blessed --them..." (oh-tam). When the direct object is a represented by a pronoun, you see a long dash indicating the object of the verb.

Normally the you and they as the subject are part of each word that each are doing, which is represented by the ending "vav" marked with a dot (shoorook) to the left. In this passage...
* be fuitful - p'roo
* and multiply - oor'voo
* and fill - oo-mee-l'oo

These are commands but you will see that a vav+shoorook at the end of a word can be you, your, they or their as interpreted in English. The vav is also "and" at the beginning in these cases.

I am experimenting with trying to produce written Hebrew using a stylus, but it's not the same. At some point, I may have writing practice. What do you think?

If you have been with me from the beginning, you should be able to read on your own, maybe with some mistakes. But you can start practicing and building vocabulary. I am reading a little faster and pointing less each week. I hope you are too.

I’ve already learned a lot from you about this one of the oldest languages of all. It so unique the use of a different alphabet and the right to left direction for reading and writing. With English having to use much more words then Hebrew makes me think it actualy may not be that difficult at al. I still consider it an art language. I do now understand that “vav” on the left combined with “shoorook” at the end of a word can mean as you, your, they or their in English. It’s tough, I had to readi few times to get it a bit. I hope I didn’t mess up. 😆

Learning languages is a combination of reading, speaking, listening, understanding and vocabulary.

Agree! The best way to learn Hebrew language is to actually spend time among people speaking Hebrew. That’s the way I learned my second language. Also read, watch tv... And the most important is the motivation and willingness to learn. One thing that caught my eye and I’m curious how do you call on materialistic things if you only use she or he instead of it? I also noticed no word for word translation in many languages. I guess that’s what makes it the most difficult in language learning. Great post though!

You do the same as in Spanish or other languages with gender.

"Una abeja vino a investigar lo que estaba comiendo y ella me picó."

Saying, 'ella' is the word "it" but a feminine thing that bit me. The same is seen in the Tanakh we use.

and it was evening...

Another great post by great @hebrew sir.There is something completely new i have learned from this post.Sir your post making me interested in hebrew language.I am also searching through wiki about tanakh.This is what i got about it.The Tanakh consists of twenty-four books: it counts as one book each Samuel, Kings, Chronicles and Ezra–Nehemiah and counts the Twelve Minor Prophets (תרי עשר) as a single book. In Hebrew, the books are often referred to by their prominent first word(s).I also learned that every thing count in gender.You have to call it by he or she.Thank's for such educative and informative post.@upvoted and resteemed.

Great lesson! I can see now the difference between the light and the darkness. English obviously uses much more prepositions than Hebrew. I can see now that word “vav” can have a more meaning such as “and, on, in”. I can also see Hebrew uses one word instead of English using multiple words.

Great lesson!
I do learn every time I see your lesson.
I can clearly see the meaning in the great one and the small one in Hebrew. To write “one” is very easy. I completely understand that you can’t literally translate from English to Hebrew. In my language of origin it’s exactly the same. It would not make much of a sense if I tried to translate It literally word by word. Hebrew is a beautiful language.

A Hebrew Bible manuscript is a handwritten copy of a portion of the text of the Hebrew Bible (Tanakh) made on papyrus, parchment, or paper, and written in the Hebrew language. (Some of the Biblical text and notations may be in Aramaic.) The oldest manuscripts were written in a form of scroll, the medieval manuscripts usually were written in a form of codex. The late manuscripts written after the 9th century use the Masoretic Text.

Dear @Hebrew, from your previous post about @hebrew language, i learned about letters & vowels & so many words like God, earth, great, which/that , et, all/every. Today i learned few words also like "water" or ma-yim, creature or nefesh, "bird" or oaf & hai-yah or "alive".
And learned about Genesis 1:20-22 & how "God" causes all sea creatures to "swarm" (school) in the waters, and causes the birds to fly across the expanse. And let them "swarm" according to every kind.
From today's lesson i learn be fuitful - p'roo and multiply - oor'voo and fill - oo-mee-l'oo. And i can see the direct object, or the receiver of the action (the blessing), "and he blessed --them..." (oh-tam).

@hebrew thanks for increasing our knowledge :)

Hello Sir, Thank you very much for writing a very nice language about your blog posts, I think that Hebrew is a very nice language that every community of people is not aware of right now.

Presently the discussion of cryptocurrency is always discussed in the community but here you are presenting a great language which is very interesting to me because I love your Hebrew language and I started researching this language myself 📌

The above topics discussed in Hebrew languages are very valuable because you are an expert personality and you have gained enough knowledge of the Hebrew language. You are a specific personality through which we hope to have accurate information about language 😊

@olvio | June 3, 2018, 7:08 a.m. | Votes: 3 | [ VOTE ]

You have tried to give us knowledge of a specific Hebrew about the subject above. I think Hebrew is a very good language, only ordinary people do not know about this language, so everyone does not know any value of this language.

I am very happy to say to you that you have considered each and every one of the above material very accurately and you have presented the appropriate vinyl topics in Hebrew. I think that if we give some labor in this language we will be able to achieve this very good knowledge.

> "HE BLESSED THEM"

according to the chapter you taught and mentioned above, God blessed all that he created, he said be fruitful, multiply and fill the earth. God blessings are rich and it adds no sorrow, whatever he says in his word must come to pass.

Those blessings he blessed those creatures of the air and sea is still today very much active and we can testify to that. Thank you @hebrew for another wonderful word of God, you have really explained those words to everyone's understanding. Thanks for your support, I really appreciate it and may God continue to bless you. Happy Sunday to you.

I love it. That brings back memories as I taught my children. "There are way too many things God can't do..."

  • He can't die
  • He can't lie
  • He can't flood the earth again (break a promise)
  • He can't allow Israel to be wiped out
  • He can't destroy the earth until after the promised 1,000 year reign of Yeshua
@blinks | June 4, 2018, 11:52 a.m. | Votes: 0 | [ VOTE ]

Sir, you are absolutely right as regards what you mentioned above. God in his word said, he who he has blessed no man can cause, God has blessed Israel right from the time of old, God has a special convent with Israel and so no one can stand in the way of God's promises concerning Israel. He who fights, fights in vain. Israel will continue to strive and grow stronger, that is the word of God and his word is yes and Amen. Thank you sir @hebrew once again for visiting my blog, I am so very grateful. May God continue to bless you and your entire household.

Many Arabic words are derived from Hebrew, which proves that the Jews lived long with the Arabs, and that our two languages are very close.
In fact we lived side by side without serious problems, unfortunately this is not the case today and it is a pity.
I hope that in the future all this animosity will be reabsorbed and we will be able to live in peace with our very close cousinshttps://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/DQmWWhuGfZkajvUwuCjd1r9hzugEmXh2mJeiTf8uTDNiyda/image.png
