The ancient language of ivrit ( עברית ) Genesis 1 - Part 2

The full study is now on line covering

the Alef - Beyt in detail @hebrew on Steemit.com. The vowels are marked in this bible and are designed to help avoid confusion on what a word is and how it is pronounced, as if there is not already enough of that in the interpretations globally. In modern spoken Hebrew, only children need the niqqud until they have the pronunciation memorized.

This is a very late start to my Shabbat reading as I had met with Nic Lesmeister, President of MJBI this morning and took some time in returning home.

After last week, today's reading will seem like a walk in the park as compared to Asaf's fluent highway speeds. But, I want you to be able to associate the sounds with letters.

This week I am reading from the beginning again, pointing to letters and vowels as I go.

We are reading the first few words as a review in the grey parenthesis ( )
The new reading continues between the green parenthesis ( ) as Elohim speaks light into being and calls it good.

Please comment if you need me to read slower or use more explanation of sounds. Or maybe I could read more quickly with better intonation. I am always open to ideas.

Shabbat is the seventh day. It's the day that God rested after creation and he instructs us do keep the seventh day apart. He wants us to have a day of rest and he took one.

Thanks for another contribution to the Hebrew learners community - it's nice to see you meet with high positioned people in interesting organizations, it always interests me to read about such groups I occasionally see in Jerusalem so I went and read some about them, they are actually Jews right?

Keep up with this amazing work - and thanks for being so generous with your knowledge.

The Book of Genesis (from the Latin Vulgate, in turn borrowed or transliterated from Greek γένεσις, meaning "Origin"; Hebrew: בְּרֵאשִׁית‬, Bərēšīṯ, "In [the] beginning") is the first book of the Hebrew Bible (the Tanakh) and the Christian Old Testament.[1] It can be divided into two parts, the Primeval history (chapters 1-11) and the Ancestral history (chapters 12-50).[2] The primeval history sets out the author(s) concepts of the nature of the deity and of humankind's relationship with its maker: God creates a world which is good and fit for mankind, but when man corrupts it with sin God decides to destroy his creation, saving only the righteous Noah to reestablish the relationship between man and God.[3] The Ancestral History (chapters 12-50) tells of the prehistory of Israel, God's chosen people.[4] At God's command Noah's descendant Abraham journeys from his home into the land of Canaan, given to him by God, where he dwells as a sojourner, as does his son Isaac and his grandson Jacob. Jacob's name is changed to Israel, and through the agency of his son Joseph, the children of Israel descend into Egypt, 70 people in all with their households, and God promises them a future of greatness. Genesis ends with Israel in Egypt, ready for the coming of Moses and the Exodus. The narrative is punctuated by a series of covenants with God, successively narrowing in scope from all mankind (the covenant with Noah) to a special relationship with one people alone (Abraham and his descendants through Isaac and Jacob).[5]

In Judaism, the theological importance of Genesis centers on the covenants linking God to his chosen people and the people to the Promised Land. Christianity has interpreted Genesis as the prefiguration of certain cardinal Christian beliefs, primarily the need for salvation (the hope or assurance of all Christians) and the redemptive act of Christ on the Cross as the fulfillment of covenant promises as the Son of God.

Tradition credits Moses as the author of Genesis, as well as Exodus, Book of Leviticus, Numbers and most of Book of Deuteronomy, but modern scholars increasingly see them as a product of the 6th and 5th centuries BC.[6][7][IMAGE: https://steemitimages.com/DQmQP2VRmW6SWe7vXCG3r26xZE37TyX3hVcfmtsLbWbFcST/Screenshot_20180211-045732.png]

But are you learning to read? I still find myself stopping and absorbing the words after reading some of the new ones. I am in the middle of the book of "And he called' which is the real title of Leviticus. I read way more quickly every evening, but not as fast as Asaf (I am reading the Hebrew and the English too).

Now that you know the letters, you can read and learn as a child does from his mother.

This is a really good video! watched it even though I'm an Hebrew speaker from Israel and I can tell it can greatly help people struggling to learn Hebrew (which isn't an easy language to learn) - and it will give you some biblical knowledge too so all the better :)

I really like your accent - it's barely noticeable but kinda nice like I said in a previous post, makes the video really enjoyable :)

The word "et" has no translation into English, but it translates well to the word "a" in Spanish, also having no translation to English.

I agree that symbolism is everywhere in Hebrew and I also stated that the 'new testament' was written in some form of Hebrew or Aramaic. The Greek texts are obviously translations from a Semite language at the very least, containing the idioms and slang thereof.

One of Judaism's great figures is the man called Moshe Rabbenu ('Moses our teacher') in Hebrew. The first five books of the Bible are traditionally ascribed to him. Moses is the channel between God and the Hebrews, through whom the Hebrews received a basic charter for living as God's people.

A lot of the words do sound similar, even to me. My goals are to bring depth of meaning to people who have studied this book in their native language and are missing the significance of some of the connections made only in the cultural Hebrew writings.

This verse calls for a midrashic interpretation [because according to its simple interpretation, the vowelization of the word בָּרָא, should be different, as Rashi explains further]. It teaches us that the sequence of the Creation as written is impossible, as is written immediately below] as our Rabbis stated (Letters of R. Akiva , letter “beth” ; Gen. Rabbah 1:6; Lev. Rabbah 36:4): [God created the world] for the sake of the Torah, which is called (Prov. 8:22): “the beginning of His way,” and for the sake of Israel, who are called (Jer. 2:3) “the first of His grain.” But if you wish to explain it according to its simple meaning, explain it thus: “At the beginning of the creation of heaven and earth, the earth was astonishing with emptiness, and darkness…and God said, ‘Let there be light.’” But Scripture did not come to teach the sequence of the Creation, to say that these came first, for if it came to teach this, it should have written:“At first (בָּרִאשׁוֹנָה) He created the heavens and the earth,” for there is no רֵאשִׁית in Scripture that is not connected to the following word, [i.e., in the construct state] like (ibid. 27:1):“In the beginning of (בְּרֵאשִית) the reign of Jehoiakim” ; (below 10:10)“the beginning of (רֵאשִׁית) his reign” ; (Deut. 18:4)“the first (רֵאשִׁית) of your corn.” Here too, you say בְּרֵאשִׁית בָּרָא אלֹהִים, like בְּרֵאשִׁית בְּרֹא, in the beginning of creating. And similar to this is,“At the beginning of the Lord’s speaking (דִּבֶּר) to Hosea,” (Hos. 1:2), i.e., at the beginning of the speaking (דִּבּוּרוֹ) of the Holy One, Blessed be He, to Hosea, “the Lord said to Hosea, etc.” Now if you say that it came to teach that these (i.e., heaven and earth) were created first, and that its meaning is: In the beginning of all, He created these-and that there are elliptical verses that omit one word, like (Job 3:10): “For [He] did not shut the doors of my [mother’s] womb,” and it does not explain who it was who shut [the womb]; and like (Isa. 8:4): “he will carry off the wealth of Damascus,” and it does not explain who will carry it off; and like (Amos 6:12): “or will one plow with cattle,” and it does not explain: “if a man will plow with cattle” ; and like (Isa. 46: 10): “telling the end from the beginning,” and it does not explain that [it means] telling the end of a matter from the beginning of a matter-if so, [if you say that Scripture indicates the order of creation] be astounded at yourself, for the water preceded, as it is written: “and the spirit of God hovered over the face of the water,” and Scripture did not yet disclose when the creation of water took place! From this you learn that the water preceded the earth. Moreover, the heavens were created from fire and water. Perforce, you must admit that Scripture did not teach us anything about the sequence of the earlier and the later [acts of creation].

God’s creation of the heavens and the earth: But it does not say “of the Lord’s creation of” (i.e., it should say “of the Lord God’s creation of” as below 2:4 “on the day that the Lord God made earth and heaven”) for in the beginning it was His intention to create it with the Divine Standard of Justice, but he perceived that the world would not endure; so He preceded it with the Divine Standard of Mercy, allying it with the Divine Standard of Justice, and that is the reason it is written:“on the day the Lord God made earth and heaven.”

Creation Ex-Nihilo:

>Belief in creation ex-nihilo – something from nothing – has been a bedrock of Jewish belief throughout the ages. In fact, many Jewish commentaries explain that implicit in the meaning of the verb bara – which is used in the first verse of Genesis, and is commonly translated as "create" – is the idea that something totally new and unprecedented has been produced; i.e., creation ex-nihilo.1 This is very different than human creations, which are crafted of materials that already exist.

>The difference also expresses itself in the "created" product. An entity created ex nihilo can never be independent of its creator, as opposed to an object crafted from pre-existing substances....

Rabbi Israel Baal Shem Tov explained the process by which God creates something from nothing. Like many of his teachings, it is revolutionary at the same time that it merely elucidates traditional, age-old teachings.

>The Mishnah states: "With Ten Utterances the world was created."2 The biblical support for God's utterances being the method of creation3 is the verse: "By the word of God the heavens were made, and by the breath of His mouth, all their host."

>Further citing the verse, "Forever, O God, Your word stands in the heavens,"5the Baal Shem Tov explains that unlike human speech – which once spoken is gone – Godly "speech" is everlasting. This means that the Ten Utterances used to create the world continue to stand, constantly re-creating the world.

>This can perhaps be illustrated by using an electric lamp as an example. When one flips the switch of a lamp, one creates a circuit, causing electrons to flow back and forth through the circuit, and the light to go on. But merely flipping the switch is only half the story. In order for the light to stay lit, there must be a constant renewal of energy, for the moment the energy runs out – poof – out goes the light.

>The same is true of creation. In order for the world to continue to exist, God's words of creation need to constantly fuel its existence.

Many Arabic words are derived from Hebrew, which proves that the Jews lived long with the Arabs, and that our two languages are very close.
In fact we lived side by side without serious problems, unfortunately this is not the case today and it is a pity.
I hope that in the future all this animosity will be reabsorbed and we will be able to live in peace with our very close cousins.
