I complained about dtube not having the upload version on mobile, and i will suggest dtube should have an app for easy access, it do be great i guess.

That is quite a list of improvements and I am really stoked. I know this is a complicated project that is not easy but it really is something the internet needs to break the YouTube monopoly on video content.

I am one of the people that migrated from YouTube due to their censorship. Although I will still post the occasional video to Youtube at some point as Dtube continues to improve I may completely abandon it.

Sorry man but I don't feel original content creators should feel obliged to work 100's of hours on work and then some douche thief comes along and steals thier work and monetizes off it! That's the issue here. If ORIGINAL content creators got rewarded for their original work, the ecosystem would thrive. Instead, we have little runts sitting and waiting to steal content daily. These same runts like Ladbible have massive followings and obivously get better reach or engagement. That is simply unfair! No two ways to look at it. It shouldn't be about the money, but when you see thieves profiting off your hard work, it's disgraceful. I have had this happen to me multiple times. I am a creator and to see my original work get stolen and then viewed 14 MILLION times by some theif scum account, I have every right to be upset.

Please do downvote ALL pirated and copyright infringed videos. The problem though is that not all copyright infringements are easy to spot, and sometimes it can be a legitimate owner of a Youtube channel reposting their content on Dtube, and you should not penalize them because you did not realize it was their own original content.

I guess all legitimate youtubers should make their account names match their youtube channel names, and mention in their video description that it is in fact their own original content.

I believe people uploading piracy are upvoting themselves mostly, it's always the same amounts they get. If you feel rewards are unfair, you can downvote, in the end the same amount of money gets distributed through steem everyday, so by downvoting what you consider shit content and taking rewards away from it, these rewards are redistributed to all other contents, so you are not really wasting your power.

You and I always have the option to flag those videos if they are not in the public domain. If they are copyrighted, the owners still have the option to send a DMCA takedown notice.

Unlike YouTube, the amount of money a video makes on DTube is publicly viewable so it's very foolish of these users to upload these movies, advertising how much illegal money they are earning. Don't won't have any defense when they are caught.

I agree @heimindanger and the team should be thanked for all the hard work on Dtube. I was so excited to see the announcements of the updates/changes to the platform. I'm relatively new to Steemit. Tried out Dtube several times with much disappointment of its lag. Was hoping to post videos of my travels. After the announcement, my excitement has rekindled. I hope to be a part of and support this community for a long time to come. There is so much potential for Dtube and Steemit as a whole. Keep up the great work everyone!

I'd like to commend the team for getting an idea off the ground and having it run(production).
However, It would not be out of place to mention that the platform is for public usage and not for Dtube team consequently the team needs to take feedback from visitor and act on those things that would aid the platform to excel.

No matter how fantastic you project is, once you do not have users signing up the project is doomed.
Please guys, there should be some form of moderation on the platform to mitigate issues surrounding copyrights and piracy.

I have high hopes for Dtube, and part of their value comes from speculation, but enough content providers take their job seriously, we can easily move the masses towards the platform by showing our own progressive success. So the best we can do for the future is keep on creating, resteeming, engaging and keeping up with eachother's content. The future is bright if we all work towards this together. I'm currently considering using D.Tube in addition to my YouTube channel, but today when I tried to upload my first video the upload failed after about 50%, so it's not exactly off to a good start. I haven't given up on the idea though, so I will try again in a week or so.

That happens to me too. It gets frustrating but hopefully it will get better with more updates.

It has happened to me also but some hiccups are to be expected on new technology like this. I'm not sure if it is more problematic at certain times of the day.

I uploaded today and I have to say the improvements are a great step in the right direction. A lot more user friendly and I didn't have to go back into my steemit post to re-edit it. If the improvements continue at this pace in a couple years Dtube will be a very competitive platform.

Mine upload ok but viewing them is stuck sometimes ... but that's maybe because of my crappy connection sometimes :)

most of the errors are because of the snaps. Use the app Photo & Picture Resizer to crop your snaps by 40%, that should solve 90% of your upload problems. give it a try if you like, i've already uploaded 10 episodes with no problems what so ever after using that app :)

I always resize no my HD video snaps to 750px width, that works.

Hi, I just testet d.tube with a small music-video (not my content), and I have a question depending on that. I don't want to hurt the original creators of music, but I want to "remember" very good classics from 20 years ago or older. I know that the video quality can not compete with todays music-videos, but there was a lot of good music bevore MTV was life :-) .... now my question: Is there any limitation/regulation/possibility inside d.tube to upload and share such content without hessations? Can I go for it? Or would this be a NOGO?

Even if D.Tube does not regulate content and you might get away with it, just don't do it! (Unless you have the content owner's permission, then by all means go ahead)

I am aware what DRM means and what the author rights are, but isn't it possible to find a way within the blockchain to contribute both - the author and the admirer of a great pice of art (not every music is art to everyones ears, but still it is art) .... the "test"-post I selected was from an artist who is not alive anymore, but the rights to publish his great work (with or without altering) are 70years prohibited. This is way to long in my opinion

I hope there will be a way to reward both producers and distributors in the future. It was actually this very idea which brought me to Steemit in the first place. I really liked the idea that you could share other users' content on your own blog in a legit way with the rewards being split. Unfortunately this only works if the content creator used Steemit in the first place, but I hope that after a while, Steemit will grow enough to establish a new standard in value distribution for content. Oh, and I do agree that the 70 year limit is really long;)

I thinks that once all of the main pieces start falling into place, DTube will take off like wild fire. DTube as well as DSound will disrupt the media landscape and things will never be the same. Even as I’m happy for everything about Dtube, my joy can only be fulfilled when I have a grasp of IOS and Android mobile apps version of Dtube, so that many could join the full ride.

The site gets better all the time great work! I'm not a heavy user as I've never produced much video content, but I notice the couple videos that I posted at the inception of d.tube don't seem to load at all. I recall reading about the post rewards paying for a limited time period of IPFS hosting and was wondering if expiration of my hosting time was the problem and I'm curious if there is a system in place or being worked on where we can pay directly for continued hosting of content on our channels? Thanks for all the hard work, really excited for the future!

Thanks for the feedback. Yes in fact we pay at 0.044$ per month per GB. I think we need to do some work on this site to make this possible (IPFS Store API? Active Key?), but yes it would be a great feature if users could extend their hosting of their files by paying with STEEM.

There may be a problem with more than 5 tags. I tested it for dMania and it works, but the problem is that the post only shows up on 5 tag pages on Steemit. The tag pages for that post are kinda random with more than 5 tags. At least that was what I experienced. Just wanted you to know.

It would be fine if Steemit would use the first five but somehow the tags pages the post was shown very random. It just selects 5 from all tags. Not sure why. Maybe I made a mistake, but you should have a look at it.

I recently uploaded my first DTube video. It finally worked after I used Google Chrome. Safari, Firefox, Opera all would not allow for the file to be uploaded because DTube kept asking for a "Snap". Even when I uploaded one over and over of varying sizes, it would not accept it. Red caption would appear in the lower right hand corner. But after using Google Chrome, it finally worked for me.

hello, d.tube does not reallly work with vivaldi browser but works for chrome, does someone as an explanation ?

We are not really testing dtube outside of chrome/firefox/safari

Can you give us more information ? what you mean by does not really work ? As you can see I can watch and upload videos with Vivaldi without any problem.

Since the new update no problem encountered for the moment, but before (like 2 days before haha) videos were loading for a while and then showing an error with a cross on the center of the frame telling something like "unsupported video format" or somewhat else.

i'm still having upload problem : can not add file to ipfs network :(

because net speed is not always fast, so it can be good if you guys could add this quality tool to dtube.

480p is a good compromise for a start. Adding lower like 360 should be easy after that. Adding higher resolutions like 720p would require more ressources though. I already had to limit the 480p encoding to videos less than 20 minutes, as the queue was over 20 peoples long :(

you're doing a great work and I understand this process is really hard for a programmer and also as you said you need resources. it's great, I think you guys can start with 360, then there will be no pause between videos, I posted two videos, which I think people couldn't watched them, because even when I played them they were playing with many pauses and lags. but it's ok cause I know you will upgrade it sooner!

Right on. Encoding the video server side at 480p is a really good idea. I like the idea of the internet being democratized not just for those with modern high-speed broadband connections but those too with older or less capable equipment as well. It'll be really important as we as a community deploy decentralized technology in poorer parts of the world.

I'd love there to be a tipping button on youtube, like Busy.org has. The 7 day vote window is too narrow for animators and film makers to really get rewarded well for their time and effort... A tipping button could be a major factor in offsetting the window ☺

Just tried it out using Chrome. The video itself uploads fine but uploading a snap gets stuck on that step.

The progress bar is full and green but the little wheel above it keeps going around and around in circles without end.

Any suggestions?

Tried it with Firefox and the video won't upload at all. I don't know what settings to adjust but maybe somebody here can tell me.

I am a relatively small youtube content creator. I'm not expecting to make a living on my videos because I have a day job that I really love. Dtube sounds like a really nice platform and ill have to look at it when I have some time.

You can try to get him on. The signup and understanding the private posting key is probably the hardest step now. DTube experience once logged in should be pretty smooth now

Sorry but it seems that the upload issue is not fixed at all. After upload the video correctly and adding a snapshot an error msg occurs during the transmission to the blockchain. Result -> not able to upload a video. I tested it wich Safari, Chrome and Firefox :(

Hmmm, are you sure you were properly logged in? All the fields in the "Advanced" part were filled? What error does it spew out?

First of all I m glad to be a part of D.tube Staff. And I want to say a big Thanks to everyone who support or contribute to this project, by any way.

Some of you know it but some months ago, I had the idea to run my own project and started to build a Xamarin application for Steem. Then I met the bro @heimindanger. Probably with the help of @steeminator3000 and @ekitcho who introduced me. XOXO guys.

So, when heimindanger gave me the opportunity to join the D.tube project I had no doubt about leaving mine and joining him, 'for the better and for worse'. Since this time and without going into all details I can say that I met a great personnality with huge skills and potential of self-evolving.

To be honest three days ago I was still working on a financial company where I had to force myself to write programs in COBOL... My trust in D.Tube (and my hate for mainframes lol) made me leave now this "replace by a hatefull word" job.

Everything look possible when you work with talented individuals, and today I can say, bunch of my team are not just brilliant in IT but they are also genius.
They take the time to focus on finding the appropriate solution to each problem we encounter.
How ? each problem is transformed into a challenge and no one complain about a task even if it seems difficult. That's maybe the reason of why we don't try to get bigger as fast, but we try to be strong while thinking the rest will come naturally and I'm sure we can keep maintaining it on this way until the 1.0 is realeased.

Finally, I m sure D.tube will grow up faster in next months, and this will also increase all activities on steemit. Like heimindanger said, the marketing campaign is not a far step.

I join YouTube, dtube and steemit... I was happy first on dtube but i don't get anything from it... Now YouTube was crazy flag me for no reason.. I have a very small views then it will says not suitable for all advertisers.... Iam thinking to work back on dtube... Looking forward to dtube again..

There is no limitation so you can upload everything.
But D.tube is not a platform for X rated movies so use tag NSFW if you plan to upload adult content.

And ofc like everywhere people prefer original content ;)

Yes, also after uploading the video and trying to submit it. You know?

You cannot submit if your video or snap isn't uploaded properly. If you click 'Advanced' you can see what didn't work. If it's the snap missing, just try to change the 'API' in the settings and try again with the 'Upload snap' button

I read this article yesterday and decided to give DTube a try. YouTube is tanking and many people are looking for an alternative.

I had recently read that DTube was still being worked on a bit so I waited to hear more.

Got my first video up last night. Looks good so far. I sure hope this takes off well before YT crashes into self destruction.

@heimindanger I wanted to talk to you in Steemit chat, but for some reason it doesn’t load properly for a long time already. I’m interested in the idea, I have a vision for a project similar to D-tube. I also have enough money to fund small development team myself and have access to greater funds needed for a proper product development. If you could contact me on yvesmitko@icloud.com, that would be appreciated. I believe that nothing could be accomplished without a clear vision and a thoughtful strategy. Many strutups suffer from not being organized and not having every step planned.

Excellent work! If you can get the metatags in place to make sharing in Facebook and other sites to work correctly (as in my Github/Utopian ticket) and also get DTube videos to embed in steemit posts (and elsewhere), you will be pretty close to striking distance of Youtube's crown :)

Doing that is pretty difficult to achieve with the way DTube works right now... We are looking into APIs offering the service but it would most likely be costly

The metatags part would be easy - just a couple of hours work perhaps..
The embedding on facebook part is something I don't know the correct answer to as I've never tried to find out.. I will keep an eye out for answers that might work. :)

Wow, this is great. I am really excited about the advent of DTube giving Internet users a platform to provide commentary on world events, promote their business and create entertaining out-takes for people to enjoy. What was once dubbed a road paved with gold, has turned into a rusted pot-holed broken down sewage drain and it is wreaking havoc on those embarking on their creative journalistic pathways. Regardless of the potential to provide an income for their families, it will be nice to have a platform where people can post without being censored as a result of a disgruntled uneducated pariah having their nose hairs tweaked.

Anyway, good to hear the work is progressing, I just joined, but I look forward to participating in and witnessing the growth of DTube.

Is the financial situation the reason why our uploaded videos aren't available after a while? My channel went suddenly empty and I can find my videos when searching for them but I can't play mine or others' videos anymore

It's not deleted, it's just not displayed. The way we load the channel videos doesn't filter out for 'dtube only', it just gets your last 100 root posts on the steem blockchain, and displays whatever is a dtube video from it, with no options to load from further in time. We are working on solutions to that :(

you need to use the private posting key for logging on dtube (a different one with lower authorizations). Please read https://about.d.tube#faq1 for more info on how to retrieve your posting key!

Whether you are for or against piracy, the platforms supporting piracy will prevail in future. It does matter if you like it or not, you have to accept it. If not dtube, someone will discover something. Thanks to decentralized p2p model blockchain, zeronet play and the others this will be the future, and its already happening.

Hey @heimindanger! I don't know if you remember me, I'm the guy that thinks you should drop the "video" part and let only "hot, trending and new" stands (still do haha). I recently realized that d.tube doesn't have an option to switch between languages and I think that would be useful.
By the way, when you'll update the "languages" set-up? I still getting pt-pt instead pt-br.

Yep we should have that manual option for switching language. We will definatly update the languages soon as we added a bunch of new texts in the new version (about 20 lines) that are currently untranslated

I posted my first video to DTube in ver 0.1 (I believe) and was totally disgusted at every turn. I never posted another. It's wonderful to hear that DTube is progressing and I will take a new look at migrating some of my videos. My biggest concern though remains longivity of earnings (lifetime on YouTube vs. 7 days with DTube) and I will need to assess the earnings outcomes with both. Personally, I never got hit hard with the Adpocolypse as you called it. Good to see much progress has been made and I'm off to investigate. Thanks for all the hard work to improve our community!

Just tried last night to upload a video and post it, but the process was glitchy and it would not post. I had to use YouTube and they demonitized it promptly.

I tried a couple of times, still no success.

Hmmm ok. What type of error did you get? Which step was blocking?

First when I call up the site, I get nothing really. There are about 5 or 6 videos up there but They do not appear. Then it accepted the film, it said it accepted the thumbnail (box checked), finished all its processes, but would not post... this was not the first time.

I will try another film in a couple of hours... and do a step by step for you. Is there somewhere better to message back and forth or keep it here?

when uploading longer video it take too much time in ipfs datastore and I have to wait to submit title,Des,Tags. is there another way to finish submiting ( title,Des,Tags) right after uploading video and close the tab. and the system show my video in channel page after storing it in ipfs.

Hi again @heimindanger, since you are planning to do an SMT when those become a reality, how are you monetizing dTube? Percent of upvotes like eSteem? Any plans to create a token on Bitshares like the Buildteam did?

During upload, I am getting stuck on "Adding Source to IPFS..." over half of the time.. Any ideas on how to solve this? I've used multiple browsers with the same result.

I might have found a bug, I was trying to resteem a video, press the ... menu and hit resteem but nothing happens.

Found you through terry brock's channel. I have noticed that the videos in Dtube seems to be taking longer to buffer. I checked it with multiple connection speeds. Also noticed that pausing video to let it buffer longer time often does not work. I guess you guys are working on this :)

Can't seem to find the Dtube app on Play Store, I am in India. And please change the name if you really want to do some marketing in the future. 'Dtube' sounds like a porn site.

I really enjoy watching those videos uploaded to DTube.
Since I'm planing to publish videos there, I have a question:
My standart recording setting is set to 1080p. Maximum available play option on DTube is 480p I guess, should I keep recording at 1080p or should I change my settings to 480p? If I record at 480p upload time will be shorter for me, and size of my videos I upload to your servers will be smaller..

The maximum available on the DTube player isnt 480p but the source. I mean, you should continue to upload at 1080p, because people with a descent connection will be able to watch it.

New user here! We really like what has been done with DTube so far, and we're optimistic about the direction it is heading.
May we make a suggestion to add a video scheduling system? It really helps us maintain a constant upload schedule and we won't have to worry about manually publishing each video at the exact time we want to.

FYI, your site shows an entirely blank page in the Pale Moon and FireFox browser on windows 10 (it works fine in Chrome browser).
( @dlive announced their beta release today, and that works fine in Pale Moon and FireFox. So looks like you have some competition now. )

Hey I have a question. I'm writing about DTube and promoting it. I'm wondering how the DTube upvotes are distributed? I've noticed I've received DTube votes on some of my videos but not all. I'm curious if it's an auto-upvote bot or is stuff manually curated?

I don't know if it's somehing I should include when promoting or not. Because it could earn some people some decent money. I just have no idea on how it votes.

After reading this post, I guess it's time for a migration. :)

I just think that Steem and DTube are ground floor opportunity to make a ton of cash. If you know how to create content, write articles, produce engaging videos your time is now! There's no need for a middleman, no need for advertising revenue. This technology should scare YouTube because this is going to blow them out of the water once it takes hold. As more content creators realize the money you can make from DTube it is going to explode!! I'm glad to be here on the ground floor. Go STEEM, GO DTUBE!!!

I’m really enjoying the site, only really been active on it for a few weeks now. The only thing I currently have an issue with is uploading a post on Dtube via a smartphone, video uploads fine but the thumbnail has an ifps issue every time. But it’s never an issue on the pc so it’s not a massive problem! I’m really loving the community that is being created on the site and I’m excited to see where it all leads. Very appreciative of the generous upvotes and access to so much talent on Dtube and Steemit combined. Here’s to the new year full of success!

I just have a question well two actually...... I have an older mac running os 10.6.8 and dtube will not open with any browser I try, second is there a way to transfer you tube videos to dtube? If so how and what about the old mac....... It's too much of a war horse to get rid of but some apps just won't work....... Love the DTube though
