The heat in Ilorin, Kwara State lately is no joke. As a field worker, staying indoors is not even an option for me. Every day, I have to step out and face the sun directly, no matter how intense it gets.
To be honest, the sun can be overwhelming. There are moments when it feels like it is burning straight through my skin, especially in the afternoon. You get tired faster, your body feels drained, and sometimes all you want is just a cool place to sit and rest.

Because of this, I had to look for ways to protect myself. One of the best decisions I made was getting a woven Fulani hat. It has really helped reduce how much the sun hits my face and head directly. It might look simple, but it has made a big difference in my daily routine.

Another thing I take very seriously now is hydration. I do not joke with water at all. I carry it with me everywhere because working under this kind of heat without drinking enough water is risky. Even when I do not feel thirsty, I still make sure I drink.
From my experience working under the sun, here are some things that have been helping me cope

  1. Always wearing a hat or head covering to reduce direct sun exposure
  2. Drinking water frequently throughout the day
  3. Taking short breaks whenever I find shade
  4. Wearing light, breathable clothes to reduce heat
  5. Avoiding unnecessary movement during the hottest hours when possible
Even with all these, the heat is still something I deal with every day. But adapting is the only choice. This is the reality of being a field worker in this season.
If you also work outdoors, how are you coping with this heat ?

The sun is pretty hot just like you said these days in Ilorin and its really been affecting my me and my broiler chickens as well. And most of my friends raising are also facing this issue. But it's great to know you find a way to cope with sun.
