 --- A GOPHER-LIKE INTERFACE FOR HIVE BLOCKCHAIN ---

Hive Debit DHF Proposal

BY: @hivedebit | CREATED: March 6, 2025, 1:02 a.m. | VOTES: 624 | PAYOUT: $130.02 | [ VOTE ]

Introduction

Hive Debit is a groundbreaking project that brings NFC-enabled, decentralized payments to the Hive ecosystem. By leveraging Hive and HBD, it offers an instant, feeless, and intermediary-free payment system using NFC cards, tags, and wearables. The project is spearheaded by @jthomasewsky and backed by key investors and ecosystem contributors like @Starkerz and @TheyCallMeDan.

Unlike traditional financial systems or centralized crypto payment solutions, Hive Debit ensures full user autonomy, privacy, and accessibility by directly integrating with the Hive blockchain. The project aims to bridge the gap between blockchain technology and real-world usability, providing an easy-to-use and highly scalable solution for merchants and users alike.

Proof of Concept Already Operational

Here are some videos of the cards already working in various businesses across South and Central America. Many of the videos come from San Salvador, the capital of El Salvador. See the POC videos below:

Open Source - Tap to Program

As part of this funding, Hive Debit shall ensure that anyone can program a typical 200 bite NFC card locally using their mobile device so that they do not need to rely on a Hive Debit delivery service to benefit from these cards. The user will be able to log into the Hive Debit website and tap the NFC card with their mobile device in order to program the card.

The goal is that by the end of the funding period, Hive Debit code will be provided fully open source so that anyone can program their own card technology and improve on the one tap payment standard on Hive that we have made.

Repayment

If Hive Debit becomes profitable via card sales and sales of other financial service products, it shall pay back all of the funds to the DHF obtained as part of this and any future funding kindly provided by the Hive community.

Objectives

The purpose of this DHF proposal is to secure funding for the continued development, expansion, and adoption of Hive Debit. Key objectives include:

Development Roadmap & Budget

Based on our structured implementation plan, the development will follow these phases:

Phase 1: NFC System Development & Testing

Phase 2: Landing Website

Phase 3: iOS Compatibility Research & Implementation

Phase 4: Lightning Payment Integration

Phase 5: Hive to HBD Conversion Mechanism

Phase 6: Merchant & POS System Development

Phase 7: Card Production, Packaging, & Distribution

Phase 8: Event & Sponsorship Initiatives

Schedule

Hive Debit is projected to take between 7 and 12 months, however, being new technology, this is not guaranteed.

Community Benefits

Hive Debit is a crucial step in enhancing Hive’s real-world utility and adoption. By integrating NFC payments with Hive and HBD, it makes blockchain-based transactions as seamless as traditional banking systems while maintaining decentralization and privacy. The project aligns with Hive’s core values by promoting:

Total Budget Requested: $50,000

The funding will ensure that Hive Debit achieves full functionality, scalability, and merchant adoption while keeping transactions 100% decentralized, feeless, and secure.

This a sustainable project, what else you can have?

Cheap, easy to use and cool.

If you have any question feel free to ask.

if hbd needs centralised bot to maintain it's price
if this centralised bot needs money from DHF to function
if money in DHF are limited and we know how much we spent in governance per year
it's relatively easy math to predict problems or even complete failure, kinda scary that most of you people here on hive just pretend it makes sense

This blockchain kinda became governance farming while pretending that we have more and more users, and your solutions make sense. At the moment when I write that comment, this proposal have 226 votes(this post have 624+ votes), with vote from king blocktrades the first passed. You people should think sometimes that you create blockchain where users become obsolete. No one needs users opinion about governance, or votes.

Maybe some of you should practice scepticism, it should be natural to have some doubts.

@mahdiyari | March 6, 2025, 1:32 a.m. | Votes: 6 | [ VOTE ]

Does it require you to have the card to pay? Can you also pay like you do with apple pay?

@starkerz | March 6, 2025, 2:27 a.m. | Votes: 2 | [ VOTE ]

It can be paid with a wearable item such as a ring or a chain, the plan is eventually to have such cards made digitally and have them added into apple pay. There is much work to do before then until we know for sure if this will work, but it is certainly the intention

@jthomasewsky | March 6, 2025, 2:05 p.m. | Votes: 0 | [ VOTE ]

Apple pay could be hard to use, but we are gonna discover that in phase 3 with the iOS compatibility.

what is the difference in using this compared to V4V?

@starkerz | March 6, 2025, 2:32 a.m. | Votes: 1 | [ VOTE ]

no difference. in fact, in many ways it uses V4V technology on its back end.
Also, this is tap to pay, and with time, V4V can integrate this technology into its own POS system by just adding a few lines of code.

When the Point of Sale System is completed, the businesses account will be entered once in the settings and after that point only the name of the server (optional for tipping) and the amount will be entered in the main interface to generate a one tap invoice

Dear @themarkymark, @buildawhale, @gogreenbuddy, @usainvote, @ipromote, and whoever else is involved in this scheme,

You call us "nutty as squirrel poop," but the real nuttiness lies in your actions. Let’s break it down for everyone watching:

  1. The BuildaWhale Scam Farm:
    We’ve exposed how @buildawhale operates as an unlimited money glitch, siphoning rewards away from honest creators while contributing nothing of value to Hive. Yet instead of addressing this glaring issue, you continue to defend it. Here’s proof for anyone who cares to look: BuildaWhale’s Activity.

  2. Downvoting Good Content While Self-Voting Spam:
    It’s shameful how you downvote legitimate contributions while self-voting your own spam posts. This isn’t just unethical—it’s a blatant abuse of the system designed to enrich yourselves at the expense of others. Do you really think this behavior benefits Hive? Spoiler alert: it doesn’t.

  3. Transactions Don’t Lie:
    Every action you take—every delegation, every vote—is permanently recorded on the blockchain. The evidence is there for all to see. No amount of ridicule or deflection will erase the truth. You can keep digging your hole deeper, but the more you fight, the clearer it becomes that you’ve already lost.

At Bilpcoin, we’re here to expose corruption and hold bad actors accountable. What do you contribute besides scamming, farming, and suppressing dissent? The contrast speaks volumes.

Keep trying to discredit us if it makes you feel better—it won’t change the facts. As we’ve said before: transactions don’t lie, and neither do we. The truth is out, and no amount of mockery or suppression will bury it.

Sincerely,
The Bilpcoin Team

Dear @jacobtothe,

You claim we’re "unhinged" and compare us to flat-earth believers, yet it’s ironic how you refuse to engage with the evidence we present. The blockchain doesn’t lie, and every transaction tells a story—one you choose to ignore because it exposes uncomfortable truths about your actions and those of your friends.

It’s almost comical how only you and your downvoting, farming clique rush to defend unethical practices like scam farms and coordinated suppression campaigns. Your behavior speaks volumes about where your priorities lie. Instead of addressing the systemic harm you enable, you dismiss critics as delusional or unhinged. But let’s be honest: the real issue isn’t our sanity—it’s your refusal to confront reality.

Speaking of reality, perhaps it’s time for you to take a hard look in the mirror. You accuse us of being self-righteous, yet here you are, obsessively downvoting anyone who dares to expose the truth. Take this post https://hive.blog/hive-167922/@bpcvoter2/seo-breakdown-of-all-transactions-for-theycallmemarky by @bpcvoter2, for example: instead of engaging with the evidence, you silenced it with a downvote. How does that contribute to meaningful dialogue? It doesn’t. It only highlights your desperation to suppress accountability.

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: Bilpcoin is here to help Hive by exposing corruption and holding bad actors accountable. What do you do besides enabling abuse and protecting unethical practices? The contrast couldn’t be clearer.

If you truly cared about Hive, you’d stop defending scams and start working toward solutions. Until then, we’ll keep shining a light on the truth—because no amount of downvotes or deflection will erase it. Maybe spend some time reflecting on your choices instead of wasting energy fighting against the truth LOL. Who knows? You might discover there’s more to life than protecting corruption.

Sincerely,
The Bilpcoin Team

So you are inventing a new way to comfortably sell Hive?
How this is supposed to help the Hive price?
If I would be a potential investor, the ability to sell the token would be not my no. 1 priority, right?

This is actually more of a way to transfer hive with only one tap. no Keys, no signature. we advise a separate account to your main account, however, with spending money ONLY on it. you can then tap to spend instantly wherever Hive debit is accepted.

Having used it myself, I think that's super cool!

Touch-less pay. cards are becoming a past use technology. Phones and an easy no touch scan is pretty much the norm now. Especially if we fast forward 5 years. By the time energy is spent on this it will be further outdated. Spending money on physical cards won’t be a thing in a few years.

@jmis101 | March 16, 2025, 4:45 p.m. | Votes: 3 | [ VOTE ]

True, though.
But, I think starting little could pave way for greater one.
🤔 touch scan is a great idea, especially hive that is basically an online stuff.

I would like to hear more about underlying technology to evaluate the possibilities in the long run.

@danielvehe | March 6, 2025, 3:07 p.m. | Votes: 2 | [ VOTE ]

This is great.

There are crypto debit cards that convert to FIAT and the business doesn't even know the customer paid with crypto. What does it take to accomplish that?

@starkerz | March 6, 2025, 5:06 p.m. | Votes: 0 | [ VOTE ]

Integration with such technology. However, I'd rather focus on HBD to HBD payments for now at least. It keeps HBD value in the system and HBD has WAY more benefits anyway!

@jthomasewsky | March 7, 2025, 5:12 p.m. | Votes: 0 | [ VOTE ]

No we can't do that and it's really hard because Hive is not an enterprise that can go and talk with Visa or Mastercard to have something like that, so we can't pay but in the future we should take a look on the solutions such as the Latinamerican ones.

@rimurutempest | March 6, 2025, 4:16 p.m. | Votes: 1 | [ VOTE ]

That's very interesting. Boosting the use case of Hive and HBD.

I see no commitment to GAAP and affirming to Hive that there is not fraudulent theft of funds provided by the DHF. Therefore I will refrain from voting for this proposal until GAAP are part of it, and will continue to vote the Return proposal, and recommend doing so to all concerned.

It is past time the DHF adopted the time tested mechanisms that ensure honest business.

@starkerz | March 6, 2025, 5:08 p.m. | Votes: 2 | [ VOTE ]

Are you suggesting that we are steeling from the DHF? Owch. Noted. Was not aware you felt that way.

I appreciate your concern, Can you help us understand how to run this project with more "honest business mechanisms" and we will do our best to comply with your request

@valued-customer | March 6, 2025, 6:23 p.m. | Votes: 5 | [ VOTE ]

GAAP, generally accepted accounting practices, as I pointed out in my comment. Simply providing the evidence of expeditures of the funds so that there is no question as to how those funds are spent. Other DHF proposals have been extraordinarily profligate with expenditures without any accounting whatsoever, and this has been further accompanied by direct, credible accusations of theft by fraud.

Requiring GAAP is not accusing you of anything. It's simply how business is done because theft by fraud exists, and honest business proves it does not enable theft by fraud.

I do construction work. Sometimes I spend $T's for my customers on materials. When I do that I provide them receipts. I do not provide them receipts because they accuse me of fraud, but so they will know that I do not commit fraud, and they will never accuse me of it - unless they are attempting to commit fraud, or are incredibly stupid and do not understand something extremely simple.

Others are stealing from the DHF, as best I can ascertain. I have posted factually about this in the past. I do not intend to enable anyone to steal from the DHF, and it is my hope that you do not either. Both of us can show our commitment to not stealing from the DHF by insisting on proposals adhering to GAAP.

I appreciate the courteous reply.

@starkerz | March 7, 2025, 3:01 a.m. | Votes: 3 | [ VOTE ]

Cool, In my pre crypto life, i was a construction and project manager on oil and gas jobs, expenses were montiored very tightly.

It is of course our intention to provide receipts @jthomasewsky and I will provide clear receipts on spending for this project and also progress reports that show hours burned against planned, and other expenditures.

I agree, we need a little more transparency on DHF funded projects like that.

Also, If anyone is stealing from the DHF, we hope that the way this project is executed demonstrates how it can be done transparently so that more DHF projects follow this example with their spending.

@valued-customer | March 8, 2025, 6:01 a.m. | Votes: 0 | [ VOTE ]

I really hope that this commitment becomes a trend that all DHF proposals adopt from here on out. I was very impressed with the account of Cold Beet Root Soup (CBRS) that renovated a classroom so that kids could learn about web3 at a cost of ~$2k, which they did not source from the DHF, but closely accounted for all expenditures and detailed the work as they did it.

It is a great model for folks receiving funding for a project to follow, and it will be a difficult example to surpass.

Thanks!

Now it is not about illusions but about the concrete. We are facing the definitive adoption of Hive, and this proposal is a giant step towards this goal. Furthermore, after reading the entire proposal, I understood that all the development behind it will allow a resounding change in the way payments are made, in an efficient, fast and secure way, using state-of-the-art technology, maintaining decentralization, but marking an alternative to the traditional payment system.

If we want to lead the world, to be on a par with the great exponents, don't forget to support this proposal that will make a difference! 🚀

I mean it's a dream innovation.

Would a Hive debit card have to be FCA approved (or approved somehow) in the UK?

@starkerz | March 7, 2025, 2:56 a.m. | Votes: 1 | [ VOTE ]

Appreciate it! A transfer from an HBD account to another HBD account using Hive Debit is exactly the same thing as a transfer from HBD to HBD using a keychain wallet or V4V transaction. the only difference is that the money on the Hive Debit account does not need a signature on chain to send, just a tap. (so dont use your main account obvs). If the card should be regulated, then all Hive movements with signatures on UK soil should also be regulated.

@engrave | March 7, 2025, 2:19 p.m. | Votes: 3 | [ VOTE ]

> money on the Hive Debit account does not need a signature on chain to send, just a tap

Can you explain this in detail from a technical point of view? Are there any third-party systems/accounts involved to handle the spending? How do you sign the transaction to send Hive to another wallet? Do you keep the active key on NFC and read it to sign the transfer?

@jthomasewsky | March 8, 2025, 6:18 p.m. | Votes: 2 | [ VOTE ]

I answered you on Discord, but anyway I'm gonna release in the next few days the technical proposal so everyone can see how it's gonna work, and also to proof that this is one of the best proposals for Hive.

I would love to see this developed and adopted. My biggest questions surround the POS technology. What system was used in the proof of concept? It looks like a Bitcoin based POS that a store already has installed, is that right?
So does the hardware needed for stores to integrate the system already exist? Or is developing hardware or partnering with existing hardware suppliers part of the plan?
I think it is very challenging to market POS hardware globally, but if the system can integrate within the eco system of existing POS suppliers, then the task is made much simpler.

@starkerz | March 7, 2025, 7:01 a.m. | Votes: 1 | [ VOTE ]

for this, we used an existing POS that has a browser. if there is a browser, we can open hivedebit.com and pin it as a browser to the home page of the POS terminal. Tap to spend then works. So the onboarder would need to check with the business if they have browser tech in their POS. if not, we either need tp provide them with one, have them buy one, or show them how to use the tech on their mobile phone so that they can accept one tap payments to their phones.

development of hardware is not currently included in this plan. but it can be worked on once we have more of the tech in place as a new phase.

The hope is that where possible and where the POS has browser tech, we can integrate without having to bring in new hardware. however, some POS system are blocked and cannot access browsers.

@ura-soul | March 7, 2025, 5:12 p.m. | Votes: 0 | [ VOTE ]

OK thanks. I just asked Grok to do a deep search on this subject as I am not familiar with how common POS support for web browser access is.
Cutting down a long reply, it concluded that this is the current situation for support and associated market share:

[IMAGE: https://files.peakd.com/file/peakd-hive/ura-soul/23t76kWt1ZHeKBsTxUDSGJQMfNfVyyq9AtSmBRN54QZBJLrjsnDKH51nnBvr2W5rsJ8BB.png]

Grok is definitely not always right, but this shows that less than 20% of POS systems potentially support this feature AMT - do you know of any others that were missed?

@starkerz | March 7, 2025, 10 p.m. | Votes: 1 | [ VOTE ]

TBH, im not so worried about this. we have proof that our Trusted Guides on Hive are strong and are able and incentivised to roll this tech out in the real world and build quite significant cash flows through the businesses. The cards will likely be their main onboarding demo methods to show businesses how easy it is. many businesses will probably sell or give their clients pre-loaded or empty cards to make spending at their establishments super easy.

However, if the business already has an existing POS with browser, this tech can already be used there. many BTC POS systems are set up this way already, so it allows the tech to piggy back off of that infrastructure already (quite beautiful). worst case if we cant get the businesses to use their own browser or their existing browser based POS, then we are back the same position that V4V is at, and we can get businesses to use V4V, so there is no reason to worry there. even worse case than that, maybe we have to produce a few POS boxes ourselves, market the product and eventually sell them or stake HBD to cover the cost of distributing them for free.

So what is going on. What is the card broadcasting? Is it broadcasting the private keys, or an encrypted variant thereof, or some type of authenticate code to be matched to one of your servers. Are the raw key or authentication code protected in memory, or can the [code] be obtained through a memory dump? Where is the actual signing of the transactions performed? After all, not your keys not your crypto.

And why do you need $50000 for 30 weeks work, which even 8 weeks should be more than enough-especially considering there are also videos "showing" a functional model? really somethings are mostly parsing a simple curl command into a webpage, if it isn't stored locally or queried through on a hivesql service.

I think what it really comes down to is the the issue of marketing, or phase 8 which reeks of another valueplan.

Are you aware of existing competitive technologies in using crypto for transactions in south America? Can you tell us why people want to use your hive debit card over competing technology? Is it a solution that is looking for a problem?

You had me at the point where you said you'd repay the DHF if you hit profitability 😀

Admittedly it would be useful in due course to see what that break-even point is in cash terms, but just the principle is a vast improvement over so many other proposals which just expect a pure grant even if they'll be generating revenue.

My business had a shop in the past (before going purely online), so I'm interested in what it would look like from a retailer perspective.

I guess the key barriers to overcome are to integrate it into existing hardware where possible, to avoid the "I don't want yet another machine cluttering up my counter top" reaction, and also a really easy way for retailers to enter a price in local currency, select HBD or HIVE and then the machine does the rest.

In crypto, we're used to complexity, but this has to be simple enough that even the dimmest shop assistant can be quickly trained to use it without error.

As a thought, have you talked to @distriator about offering this as an option ? It's one of my favourite projects, but I've seen posts occasionally where it doesn't' work because it relies on both customer and retailer having good mobile signals (not always a given in some of the places where it's most popular !)
