Josh Sigurdson talks with author and economic analyst John Sneisen about the massive demonetization move by YouTube in recent days following a controversial video by Logan Paul on the platform.
Basically, one guy with millions of subscribers makes a really dumb video. YouTube then uses that as an excuse to pull the rug out from underneath millions of people and stop them from monetizing their videos and making custom thumbnails, both of which are extremely important.
The rules play out like this... If you have less than 1000 subscribers, or less than 4000 hours of total watch time on your videos, you cannot monetize and you will not be able to use custom thumbnails.
This is a direct attack on independent media especially, and basically anyone attempting to get anywhere on YouTube because it cuts down the possibility of people growing on the platform by about 90%.
This demonetization process has been happening for a long time. Any excuse they can use, they certainly will use. Google has gotten billions of dollars in subsidies from the government. It is not a private business at this point, it's a government monopoly on information. The advertisers also have very little say in this. It's basically left up to a certain organization that we cannot mention in the description without facing consequences ourselves.
But let's remember the process of decentralization.
People moved from the telegraph office to the telephone with an operator. From the telephone with an operator to a phone without the need for an operator. From the news paper to the television and radio. From the mainstream media to social media. From centralized social medias to Steemit and DTube. THAT'S the answer to this problem. A REAL free market alternative.
Steemit and DTube are decentralized platforms on the blockchain. You get paid in the Steem cryptocurrency which you can then trade into other cryptos or cash if you wish. It's a massive innovation.
People from all realms of life are flocking to the platform. The worst thing that can happen is that you post what you would on Facebook or YouTube anyways only to make a few dollars. The best thing that can happen is that you can make hundreds of thousands of dollars. What are people waiting for? It's always about what's next in technology.

they also demonetize mine, I worked for 3 years there to earn that $74, I hate them, they are really ruining it, I have even two video with more than 20k views, 3 years of taking care about my original content, it sucks !
They demonetized most of my vids for not being advertiser friendly and then wouldn't review them unless I got a certain number of hits. Now I got the email they are going to to demonetize my whole channel too. I'm not going to put in a bunch of work on something then have some automated system say it's not worthy so I stopped putting up new videos a while a ago. This latest e mail is the nail in the coffin. Steemit there are no surprises, no big brother censorship. I would rather put in the effort here, I have done way better financially here too. I thought youtube saying the whole topic of Mandela Effects not being advertiser friendly was heavy handed, it's about as mild a conspiracy theory as you can get, but we got lumped in with racists and holocaust denial. I am kind of sour because I always thought my old youtube vids would make me money years later, I kind of feel I made them for nothing.
But Dtube seems like a sweet alternative!

This is not just about my two small YT channels. I'm finding less and less on YouTube that I even want to watch. I'm not into the sensationalist stuff. I'd never even heard of Logan Paul until yesterday, and I often watch films about hillwalking or bouldering made by small producers, as well as good alternative producers like James Corbett. But there don't seem to be as many good YouTube videos as there used to be, or if there are, I'm not finding them.
I think many of the YouTubers I like are just getting fed up producing their films for nothing, so they're not making as many.
I just wish I could watch Dtube on my phone, so I could watch it in the bath.
Dudes! I had this idea last night. I cut my daily video into Part I and Part II. My regular YouTube viewers started watching the Vid, then it said, Click the Link Below for Part II and they were forced to go to DTube to finish the vid, OR be left hanging.
At least this way some of them will get the idea that it's a free website and if they register on SteemIt they might actually make some money 👍🏼

So rad to get him in on this. Steemit is just getting started and as you have already seen payouts can be significant.
Fyi i saw you asking about steem payouts.
They work like this:
75% goes to you, 25% to your curators.
Of the 75% you get, 50% of that is paid in steem and 50% paid in steem backed dollars.
The steem backed dollars are paid out as if they are only worth 1 usd but they are worth more.
So $100 post will get you a 75 pay out, which equates to 37.5 SBD, and 37.5 usd worth of steem.
Since SBD are worth $5-7 usd each you are getting way more usd than it seems.
Make sense?
Youtube is a joke and always has been. Blockchain is the perfect technology to get everyone away from these big centralized companies stealing our money. They will realize that without us they are nothing and by the time they realize it would have already been too late. That includes banks and governments. We all need to see that when we post on Facebook or Youtube or even Twitter that we do not own that content. They will sell your information, rob you of any personal photos and/or phone numbers. Steemit is the future as well as all crypto technology. Goodbye Google, Facebook, Amazon, Walmart, Paypal, etc.. Let Youtube demonitize however many content creators they want to and they will end up losing at the end.
Although I didn't make much from YouTube, I felt that their recent demonetization efforts were a slap in the face to the small creators who have abided by their rules, grown but fall short of the new rules. Whilst YouTube simultaneously ignores the two large YouTubers who have caused them controversy with advertisers as of late.
Even though I infrequently post on YouTube (mainly science animations and Science talks) and only have 27k views, I now plan on migrating all my content over to DTube. Even if its a minor act of defiance, I just no longer feel like YouTube is worth the time and effort.
I dreamt of being a YouTuber and now I’m crushed. I have saving up for a GH4 & GH5 cameras to start making videos on the site but my content is kind of wired, because I suffer Asperger Syndrome.
I recently just learned that people with autism or any disability isn’t getting pay or monetize at all. I feel so defeated at this point.
I was hoping if this site will approve me because i want to make friends and make videos about my crazy ideas & stories.

I got all my videos remonetized, but now Google is threatening to take my monetization away over the new rules. I have the 4,000 hours of watch time no problem, but not the 1,000 subs.
As for your claim that 90% of your videos were demonetized? Well, this is why I stay away from all the political and conspiracy theory nonsense and just stick to video games. Besides, political stuff always ends up with constant arguments and fighting, and who wants a channel full of angry people anyway.
my youtube channel soon will demonitized as well as I just got 600 subscribers..I need another 400 susbcribers.. I not really that active in youtube..just posting once in a while but received the email from youtube about demonitization...
Somehow I got trigger to know what happen to all those youtubers who really really work damn hard and suddenly got fired by youtube.
That's when I come to know they shift to DTube and now I'm also here become one of streemit community.

There is so much more that no one is talking about. The technology used to target people operate off the mobile platform. When 5G is implemented..God have mercy on us.this stuff can alter our DNA; the technology can be used to remotely maim or kill. It's been in use for some time now. 5G will take it off the rails.
