Dear gentle readers,
This is going to sound pretty weird, but I used to skip memes 😹.
I know, you might be thinking:
"This writer is probably an alien"
LOL.
The truth is that I have always been someone that enjoys social media with more visuals like pictures(no text in it) and videos. I find it kinda difficult stopping to read blocks of text. School has already made me read enough books 😹, so I watch videos instead to enjoy social media. Whenever I open social media, my brain wants entertainment, not more reading.
Everything changed a few years ago when I decided to just give it a try. I remember scrolling through social media one day and stumbled upon a few memes that were so relatable that I couldn't help but laugh. I couldn't stop laughing at the humor behind the memes I came across. Its funny I was spending minutes scrolling through content that I would normally have just skipped.
I think the ones that I spend time scrolling through are the twitter savages. I know, being rude shouldn't be funny but it makes me laugh a lot. Sometimes I read a response and wonder how a human being could even think of something that fast. 😹
I began to understand why memes became a big part of the internet culture. A meme communicates feeling and opnions in just one image. It doesnt need a whole paragrah to explain. Once you just see an image and even just one word, you get a well communicated joke already.
The same appy to GIFs too.
When I think about the internet today, it is easy to see why people love them so much. In a world where people wake up to challenges, struggle everyday and social media is full of bad news, bad blood, economic struggles and arguments; Its nice to have a little laugh sometimes and just enjoy read something to make you smile.
A funny meme can brighten someones mood for a few seconds. A well-timed GIF can make a conversation more lively and entertaining.
That is why I believe memes and GIFs make the internet a better place.
Of course, like everything else online, they can sometimes be used negatively. Some set of people often use it to spread misinformation, sterotypes and for bullying. However, I think the good outweighs the bad.
Would I survive in a world without memes and GIFs?
Absolutely.
A world without Gifs and Memes would be boring yeah, but I'd still survive because there are other parts of social media I enjoy. I still vibe to videos, pictures, Chess content and many other parts of social media. But I aint gonna lie, the internet would still feel a bit less fun.
Memes and GIFs may seem like small things, but they have become a core part of how people communicate online. I have seen people join a whole ecoystem just so they can enjoy memes.
Even when chatting on social media, sometimes words or emojis just can't communitcate that mood or feeling you have at the moment, memes and gifs are a life saver in such situations.
Its crazy that all these is coming from a someone that once skipped memes. I never thought I'd be saying that.
