Hi. I joined Steemit today and I'm still trying to understand it. Is it something like Reddit and the tags are like subreddits?

It's pretty much a cross between Reddit and Medium (at the moment) with a unique rewards system that incentivizes originality. On the grand scale of things, it is like a newborn and there are growing pains ahead, but it has tremendous potential to be the next big thing.
