Visiting the Eagle's Nest

Two days ago I went to see the birds down at Beacon Hill Park. Here are some of my better shots from that trip.

There was a lot of activity at tree-top level near the eagle's nest. Both of the bald eagle pair were at home which is kind of unusual. I was just in time to see one of the pair burst from the tree and begin to circle the park.

This immediately caused the heron colony to lose their minds, screaming in terror of the eagle. What an incredible noise they can make!

The heron colony of course is right next door to the eagle's nest, separated by a no-mans-land the width of a couple of trees.

What eagle, did you see an eagle?

The eagle does another low pass over the herons...

Meanwhile, back at the nest, the other parent stands guard.

Crashing through the branches, the first eagle returns and takes up a perch above the nest.

Now, both parents are keeping watch over the nest. What do you suppose is down there?

Here's the eagle baby, not yet a fledgling. Bald eagles fledge or take their first flights 10 to 12 weeks after hatching. The young birds will begin to get their white head and tail feathers typically after three years.

I took these photos with a Fuji X-T4 and 55-200mm lens. I hope you like them! :-)
