I've got a milestone Birthday coming up soon. For my 50th Birthday, I had my sights set on a .338 Lapua Magnum rifle. It took me another 4 years to save up the money for the one I wanted due to some unexpected disruptions.

RMR phrase was coined from the Trijicon Ruggedized Miniature Reflex sight used in military operations. It has become a generic term for these style sights.
This time, I planned ahead. I seldom spend money on myself and don't have many needs. However when I saw a product come out that I had literally been waiting on for decades, I had to pull the trigger on the purchase (get it haha).
Once decided, of course accessories were in order. I don't leave many of my pew's in their stock configuration. I won't mention where this is going yet, you'll have to come back for the next post.
So, what is this thing? It is the new OSight X from Olight. It's no secret that I've become slightly addicted to the Osight torches, but this RMR style sight is fantastic.
Most of my other RMR's have been standardized on the Vortex Venom. I would happily replace every one of them with this new Osight if I could. I haven't seen how well it will hold up to the torture tests, and doubt it will ever knock Trijicon out of the top slot for field or military use, but for general purpose home, target, and hunting, this thing is fantastic.
There are several key things that stood out for me on this one.
Standout features:
Battery replacement - not needed, recharges with the cover, always fully charged if stored with cover on. Some other sights you have to actually remove the sight (messing up your zero) to replace the battery, not this one.
Automatic on when detects movement, automatic off to save battery.
Dual sight picture - You can choose between the 3mm dot, the 3mm dot with 32mm circle around it (my favorite), or just the circle.
Bright, variable strength brightness control that I actually found myself turning down.
The charging cover, that not only keeps the battery topped up, but can then recharge the sight several times before charging the cover and also displays the charge level.
Long lasting Battery Life - Promoted at over 77,000 hours for the sight itself, then 308,000 hours with the charging cover, equal to about 3 full charges.
Came with mounting plate and 4 sets of screws for different adapters. (Very nice touch).
Compatibility with huge list of weapon and mount systems.

It came in a nice storage box.

Also came with charging cables and multiple screws for different mounts AND included the recommended torq settings for tightening. Nice touch!

The top charging cover has a nice charge level indicator on the top.

The charging port is there on the back of the cover. So nice, no battery to replace, no removal needed, just plug it in and charge.

Plus, it has a nice look.

Here's a pic of just the 3mm dot with the 32mm circle turned off. Great for longer distance or target shooting if you don't need the quick target acquisition of the larger circle.

Yes, there are pics coming soon with it on the new weapon. Spoiler alert, yes it is fantastic in use. I can't wait to get it to my next competition.
