Today the burst coin network was attacked by the abuse of a bug that burstnation abused twice a few months ago this is shortly after most of the pools get ddosed. and a botnet appears mining the blockchain.

So far we have no idea where this originates from. and is a clear waste of money for whoever has initiated the attack

This attack has flooded the blockchain with over 300,000 transactions and has caused all the wallets to crash with out of memory exceptions. and it has also caused all the pools to fork causing payouts of burst that don't actually exist. these payouts might be rolled back and might not.

Currently the attack is going on the message that has flooded everyone's inbox is as follows

"Revelation 8:7 - The first sounded, and there came hail and fire, mixed with blood, and they were thrown to the earth; and a third of the earth was burned up, and a third of the trees were burned up, and all the green grass was burned up..........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................."

This hits the max message size for a transaction of 1000 chars. and is filling up all the blocks on the chain.

So far one wallet seems to be forging us through all these blocks.

This issue has caused bittrex to disable burst. after i got them to relist it earlier in the week.

The network has now split into 3 chains and the price on poloniex has also dropped significantly since the attack started.

To work out how long this attack will last for it can be done as follows.
300,000 tx's can fit about 45 per block.

There is 360 blocks roughly per day so

300,000/(45*360) is roughly 10 days or so.

The last time this happened it only lasted for 2-3 days no where near this kind of scale so who knows whats going to happen after its finished. 1 chain will come out on top but it is anyone's guess at who's chain that will be.

What a complete disaster. We are working within the burst discord to identify fix's and how we can rectify this issue.

After all the recent news and just when you think things cant get any worse someone goes and does this.

The key here is that the blockchain needs to keep mining in order to get out of this mess. if people dont forge blocks then the blockchain wont move and the transactions wont clear.

This kind of attack opens up holes for double spends specifically with mining pools. as they will mine several blocks on their own chain and when they reach a consensus with the rest of the network. the won blocks will be rolled back but the transactions wont. causing them to go negative.

This also effects casino's as well as pools.

Lets just hope the second angel doesn't blow its trumpet.
