If someone asked me whether I possessed any superpowers, my first instinct would be to laugh and point out that I cannot fly, become invisible, teleport or shoot lasers from my eyes. I am just an ordinary person trying to navigate life like everyone else.

But over the years, I have come to realize that some of the most powerful abilities are not the ones we see in comic books. They are the qualities that help us connect with people, survive difficult moments, and make a difference in the lives of others.

If I had to name my superpowers, I would start with my sense of humor.

Life has never been short of challenges. Between work responsibilities, family expectations, financial pressures, and the countless uncertainties that come with living in Nigeria, there are enough reasons for anyone to feel overwhelmed.

I remember countless occasions when people around me were tense, worried, or frustrated. Sometimes all it took was a well-timed joke, a playful observation or a funny story to change the atmosphere completely.

The smiles would appear, the shoulders would relax, and for a moment, the burden everyone was carrying seemed a little easier to bear. I may not have the power to solve every problem, but I have learned that making people laugh can be a powerful gift.

My second superpower is something many people have pointed out to me over the years, I am surprisingly easy to like.

That statement may sound boastful, but it is less about popularity and more about connection. For a long time, I assumed everyone approached people the same way I did. I enjoy conversations. I enjoy hearing people's stories. I enjoy learning about their experiences and understanding how they see the world.

Whether I am speaking with a colleague, a friend, a stranger, or someone much older than me, I genuinely try to connect.

Perhaps that is why conversations tend to come naturally to me. People often open up about their struggles, dreams, fears, and ambitions. Sometimes they seek advice. Other times they simply need someone willing to listen.

Whatever the case, I have learned that being approachable is a gift. In a world where many people feel unseen or unheard, the ability to make others feel comfortable can be surprisingly powerful.

Then there is the superpower I value perhaps more than any other, it is my ability to communication.

I have always enjoyed expressing ideas. Whether I am sharing an opinion, facilitating a discussion, creating content, anchoring an event or simply engaging in everyday conversation, I find satisfaction in finding the right words. I enjoy talking to the point where I started my own podcast, it's on haitus at the moment but before the year runs out, I probably would have a rebuttal.

Good communication is not about using complicated vocabulary or sounding smarter than everyone else. It is about clarity. It is about helping people understand what you mean and ensuring they feel included in the conversation.

In my work and personal life, I have seen how powerful communication can be. Sometimes a well-spoken sentence reaches people in ways that lengthy explanations never could.

That realization has taught me to value the gift of eloquence. Not just because it makes me sound impressive but because it helps me connect with others in meaningful ways.

I would also count curiosity among my superpowers.

This curiosity has helped me grow in unexpected ways. It pushes me to learn new skills, explore new opportunities, and adapt to changing circumstances.

While some people see curiosity as a simple personality trait, I see it as fuel. It keeps me moving forward even when I do not have everything figured out.

Last but by no means the least, is resilience.

Unlike humor, likeability or eloquence, resilience is not something people immediately notice. It works quietly behind the scenes

It is what helps me continue when things do not go according to plan. It is what pushes me forward after disappointments. It is what allows me to keep showing up when motivation is low and circumstances are difficult.

Life has presented its share of challenges. There have been moments of uncertainty, frustration and exhaustion. There have been times when giving up seemed easier than continuing.

But resilience has always louldy whispered the same message

> Keep going.

> Take one more step.

> Try one more time.

And somehow, that has always been enough.

When I put all these abilities together my humor, likeability curiosity and resilience, I realize that perhaps I do have superpowers after all.

They may never earn me a place among comic book heroes. They will not allow me to save the world in a single dramatic moment.

But they help me brighten someone's day, encourage a struggling person, build meaningful relationships, share important messages, and keep moving forward despite life's obstacles.

And perhaps that is what real superpowers are meant to do. Not make us extraordinary above others, but help us bring out the best in ourselves and the people around us.

Incase there's someone reading this who can grant super powers like the ones in comic books... I want the ability to Teleport. 🙃

I agree that real superpowers aren't always flashy. The ability to connect with people and keep moving forward through challenges is truly valuable.

I agree.. having a sense of humour is underrated.. most people are not able to even understand a joke or even dish out one... and please when you get the ability to teleport, i would like you to take me out of Nigeria.
