My dad was asking if I can solve a problem for him. The problem was 20 years ago bought drain frame that was installed in the bathroom. Now the cover middle of the frame was broken and it´s impossible to buy a new one. It´s impossible mainly because the old manufacturer does not exist anymore and the cover is not part of any modern standards.

The only solution to this problem is that I have to model and print the new cover. The modelling part was pretty fast and easy because geometry was simple, just circles with brackets.

As you can see the result was perfect and the problem was solved. It was pity I didn’t find a right color…

How long did the whole process take?

  • Modelling 10min
  • Printing parameters 1min
  • Starting the print 2min
  • Printing 11h (structure was completely solid)

Do you think it could be a side business to model and print parts like that for people? Lot's of people are having to replace expensive appliances only because some trivial part is broken and no spare parts are available. Of course, you'd have to be careful of the risks involved if a part made by you broke and some kind of damage followed, electrical water or otherwise. But there is hardly any risk to things like drain covers.

It´s great that nowadays you can just print something like that :D We just changed our (20 years old?) drain frame and it was really hard to find a new one.

Yep, and you can design the exact drain with preferred patterns you want. Amazing 🤩
