i downloaded the exudus wallet great wallet that stores about 20 coins including bitcoin easy to download but does not connect u directly to the blockchain i also downloaded daedulus wallet only for cardano coin this wallet took me 12hrs to download as it linked me to the blockchain my computers old too so don't know if this can b faster once u have your wallet get on an exchange like coinbase this can take time so if u know someone that is already on an exchange they might be able to send u crypto it worked for me...thats been my journey for now.....have a good one

One mistake I have noticed most plotters make is that they have not taken into account the value of the forked coins. If you owned Bitcoin through the lifetime of the plot then you would also have ownership in Bitcoin Cash, Bitcoin Gold, etc that would need to be accounted for for an accurate historical assessment?

All the regulation news about bitcoin have been proved as fake. What can you see from this? I see maybe some big investment made up these news and bought a lot bitcoin when it went down to the bottom. So it will be going up soon as it was planed to be. The only question is how soon. That's it. I bought a lot too, holding and will see how high will it go again. Anyone sold or got off of cryptocurrency do not understand how this thing works at all.

Can you really lose your money if you don't sell? Like if BTC was bought at 18k and is now 8k and you don't sell any. Do you still have any BTC or is all gone? More to the point if it moves from 18k to 8k back to 18k have you lost anything?

Interesting analysis but I do not think that technical analysis has any merit. Looking at past price movements and trying to figure out the future based on pure historic figures would not provide a clear picture of the future. Instead, rather consider what is happening in the cryptocurrency space: 1) adoption through numerous new exchanges / fiat-to-crypto apps, 2) good regulation to push crypto into becoming another asset class, 3) preparation for institutional money, 4) more open governments, etc.

I agree to a point. But trend analysis doesn't require too much historical data and it is the worst way of trying to predict the future with exception of all other ways ;-) There definitely needs to be deeper study, polite push back and taking things with a grain of salt in such a volatile space. It really is a virtual version of the wild, wild west. Isn't that what draws us all here?

I completely agree. I have been in the game for about 24 months but have learnt a lot along the way. If you look at history and the future we are in a very small time windows of where this will be in the future. When credit cards came in there were skeptics and now look, almost each and every person has at least one or more. Many of what they call 'future' technologies were frowned upon at first and and hit all sorts of barriers. I truly believe that Bitcoin and many other cryptos are the way of the future. Whichever way you look at it crypto is here to stay and will only be more and more adopted and used into the future. Old legacy ways of doing business which we now accept as the 'normal' will fade over the years. These have only one way to go but to become more and more valuable. I have made money by staying strong in negative times and not cashing out but HODL. In 10 or so years if we hodl onto a good diversified portfolio there is no real way you can be anything but well off for it. I personally budget to put a small portion of money into Bitcoin and other cryptos each fortnight and leave it for long term.

Hey nice post. I have a genuine question about the use of technical analysis in crypto currencies in general. I realise that TA works in large cap stocks where average behaviour has been modeled over time and patterns can be represented as mathematical constructs. But as with penny stocks, where the statistical models don’t maintain the averages, isn’t crypto generally ignorant of such trends? Maybe bitcoin given it’s a large cap crypto currency is tending towards a time when TA is more accurate than not, but is it there yet?

Hey Steemian - nice post. Personally, I think people are getting to wrapped around the "technicals". The future of Bitcoin, and other "viable " cryptos is going to be driven based on application and usage over time. I am in this for the LONG haul. For what and how BC and others will change culture, and for how it will continue to decentralize commerce at large, affording enclaves and peer networks to transact-on-trust. Quite frankly, this is what the banks and the regulatory agencies fear...that a large number of consumers go "off the fiat" and "onto the grid" to transact as they see fit, for their purposes. And that is not about technicals, as it is moreso about utility.

Cryptocurrency prices are largely driven by news events.

Let's talk about some bad news which recently resulted in a huge price drop in the value of Bitcoin and other altcoins in February.

Indian Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley, restricting the legal use of cryptocurrency.

Facebook banned the ads for Cryptocurrency and ICOs.

JPMorgan Chase & Co., Bank of America Corp AND Citigroup Inc also halted the purchases of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies on their credit cards.

UK’s largest bank Lloyds Bank announced that they will not allow cryptocurrency purchase through credit card issued by them.

Discover credit card has banned purchasing Cryptocurrency. Some cryptocurrency-backed debit cards dropped from Visa network. MasterCard removes cryptocurrency Debit Card availability outside European Economic Area (EEA).

U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission who freezes the assets of a Texas-based initial coin offering that claimed to have raised more than $600 million.

Japanese Cryptocurrency Exchange CoinCheck also get Hacked and $530 Million NEM got stolen.

The U.S. derivatives regulator recently said that they will hold two meetings to discuss the procedure and operational controls for listing and trading digital currency futures.

South Korea and China are making it tough to gain from cryptocurrency trading.

China has already banned the domestic cryptocurrency exchanges and ICO in September 2017 but they now banned any purchase by Chinese people with foreign cryptocurrency exchanges as well from February 2018. They are trying to reduce the financial risk as per government's statement. China will step up measures to remove any onshore or offshore platforms related to virtual currency trading or ICOs.

All these bad news was making a negative impact on cryptocurrency prices. People started selling their digital assets to secure themselves from the big loss. As price is largely driven by faith and fear, so it's falling continuously with continuous bad news one after another.

It would be good to see a list of the positive developments as well.

Where I live, Switzerland, the authorities are doing all they can to promote the growth and use of the blockchain and to position themselves to be the number one crypto nation.

be careful when you say it is recovering. If you look at the last few weeks we have gotten a little bit of upside and then right back on its correction. We might have just a little bit more left to go. I hope not but i think it is good be stay cautious. These are deff great prices at an almost 50% discount or more. So in the long run i think this is great! Enjoy!

Yeah, still price is very low and its not recovered completely. It may be a good opportunity for newcomers. My advice should not be considered as financial advice as this is just my personal opinion and I am not responsible for any loss of investment. Personally If I have some money which I can leave without then I will take benefit of this low market and buy some Cryptocurrencies. Litecoin would have been on top of my list but I would have also consider Ripple, Stellar Lumen, Verge, IOTA, Tron, Ethereum and some bitcoin. I would have keep looking at price and will make decision when should bet my luck on purchase. Price may still go down further. So keep watching the price and if you are ready to invest then catch the lowest possible price. But remember cryptocurrency investment is a risk and such crash can be in future as well. But gain can also be many fold. So its totally game of luck.

Your observation is nice but I think that there is much simpler reason for BTC drop. Market went too far too fast and many people cash out their gains and wait for this drop.

I agree @cicbar this was a normal retracement as the price had spiked too quickly we have seen this many times with bitcoin over the years but as the technology is still evolving the long term trend should still be on the way up. Although I'm more interested by the innovation than the price.

It is absolutely true that price was up many fold without any reason. But people were still interested in purchasing at high price. The one point apart from all the regulation and hacking which I missed is that cryptocurrency is not like regular investment where investment is done by big agency, professional investors and venture capitalists. They have good understanding of the market and future. However, cryptocurrency is different. This is because most of the investors in this domain is common man who purchase cryptocurrency in hope to encash these in coming future when price will go up. However, common man don't have lots of money which they can live without. They are always nervous when price goes up or down. Any bad news like one of above spread in market which makes these people very nervous and they want to save their loss. So they sell their cryptocurrecy if market is going down. Similarly, if market is too high, these small investors thinks that they are done with current gain and lets sell whatever they have to make quick gain. They hope that price will come down again and they can purchase it later (just like trading which is very easy now a days because of easy interface in multiple exchanges like GDAX and Binance). So huge number of such small investors like us, we are always going to see great market volatility and most of those fluctuations will be because of the market news. Any sudden bad news can stop currently improving prices of cryptocurrencies.

Yes, but bad news about tether is in market since long time much before this major crash. And real bad news about tether has come after major crash. During crash tether was standing at $1 comfortably. Still its not deviated a lot from $1. So I don't think this is one of the major reason for crash.

I agree but all coins have both side. We cannot only have one side of the coin. As cryptocurrency or any other investment is a risk so people should know the involved risk before taking any decision. Their hard earn money is at risk which should not be wasted just in hope.

Since when the new actually explained what happened let alone "driving" the market?
IF it did "drive" any market, it is no longer news.
Most news, if they are actually correct or accurate, is "a day late and a dollar short" so to speak.
IF you invest in response to new stories, you will almost always do the wrong thing.
Investing in anything, it is critical to not pay attention to news "analysis" and stick to a well researched, and well thought out game plan. Just as in sports - play your game and the scores will take care of itself.
Two things:
1. Invest only what you can afford to lose and not affect your life in speculative stuff.
2. dollar cost averaging still is the best strategy as most, if not all, of us has no information or ability to pick the time to buy or sell.

Yes! I agree. Thank you. I'm tiered of hearing about people looking at charts and talking as if they can predict the future price based on patters. That is ridiculous, this is not black jack. There are way more factors that effect the price. There would be a ridiculous amount of rich people if pattern recognition was they key to figuring out the future price of a cryptocurrency or stock.

Just an update. I also has that resistance line drawn on my charts and BTC has broken through it since Feb 10 to see a nice continuation of the bounce from $6kUSD.

So far we are on track for a V shaped recovery but I will not rule out a W shape recovery for the time being until we get consistent higher lows and highs on the daily charts for BTC.

It's possible we are in the denial stage at the moment, but it's less likely. I also believe we already hit the bottom. A retest of the 6k would be preferred. Might not happen anytime soon though.

I believe with the trends from past years once bitcoin reaches above 10 k I believe it will have a steady climb up to 19k and above.

Its really hard navigating crypto prices in the short term. In the long term I am confident, but in the short term I like to day trade to try to maximize gains and this has been a very confusing last 5 days now while we are sideways waiting to see if we trend up or down.

Nothing has changed. Everything in sight is being bid at every dip. A lot of junk has barely budged in this "correction" and is still sitting at all time highs!

BTC is now a name and history. It has many problems and its problems are highlighted in a bear market. Hopefully the devs get their shit together and actually improve the tech
