What is Concept Art?
Concept art is a type of visual art used to convey a thought for use in movies, computer and video games, comic books, shows, or any kind of media before it is placed into the finished product. As a rule, concept art is used to motivate the improvement and advancement of various media, and typically goes through several evolutions prior to it's ultimate use case. Here on Hive, you often see contests involving such things. Can you think of any recently?
Today, I would like to highlight one of our young artists that has been doing just that. She is also very near and dear to me, and was even at her request, that we begin building a game since I've been talking about it for several years.

If you've ever come to 'Family Time' in the Alliance Castle or to any show that @enginewitty has been a part of, you likely have heard - or even seen - the little Dragon Princess. She is intelligent, humorous and very creative. Here is some of the work she has done so far for the game.
Yup, she came up with the PIM. I told her what I wanted to do, where it should be and she drew that for us. It took her a few days to finally sit down and draw something up, but it was almost perfect compared to my mind's eye and what I expected from her little artistic hands.
This was right up her alley, when it comes down to it. She has been big fan of fantasy and science fiction (with some horror mixed in), plus, has asked for and received several books on how to draw anime and manga.
What do you think? I was pretty impressed. she took the 'concept' and transformed it into a visual design. One with life. One I could really get behind. After a few attempts, I came up with this rendition:

Now, it is likely, that this won't even be the final design, but one that is built upon as the game progresses. All of the basics are there though.
There is the radar ping to help find places and NISMs, an alert button, one for the Trade Center, your Home and finally the settings.
Hers might look a little more Goth than mine though, what do you think? 😜
All I know, is that without her, my team and I would not be half as far as we are. Concept art is an inspirational key aspect to anything you're going to use your eyes for and present to people.
Unless it's literally just a picture, (I'm willing to bet that many of you even edit your own before publishing them) then you have probably formed a concept in your mind and transformed that to a presentable piece of literature, a PDF presentation or cued up slides for a community chat. Maybe you even have created some for a game! Here are some more that she will have featured in NISM:

There are several on those last few pages, all of which will likely be in the game at some point. We already have built 3D models and are rigging the 3 headed snake (yet to be named) and the tri-cacti (also not named). I like how her organization has been included and she separated a few of them into types. 😍
What I love most those, is watching her do her thing. I always tried to be a good artist, and maybe even won a few contests at some point. You ever hear of Woodsy the Owl? Ya, my picture sucked really bad - but I did come up with the winning slogan in 3rd grade - "Give a Hoot, Don't Pollute". Ya, that was me. I really am famous. Least, not for my art, but for my words and ideas. HA!
Time will be catching up to you soon, Hive. Once this game is ready for release on Google Play, those packages down there will disappear, and there will never be any others offered in this manner.
