>돌이켜 보면 내가 지금까지 글을 썼고 글을 써서 밥을 먹고 살았던 이유는 순전히 감응력 때문인 것 같다. 가까이는 연애 문제로 마음 졸이는 친구에 감응하고, 추석 특집극에 나온 한평생 시난고난 장인정신으로 버텨온 늙은 대목장에 감응하고, 고공 농성 중인 노동자에게 감응하고, 거리에서 전단지를 나눠주는 아주머니의 거친 손에 감응한다. 그때마다 글로 쓰고 나면 신체가 새롭게 구성됨을 느낀다. 이는 아주 물질적인 감각이다. 주어진 상황에 물음을 던지고 때로 몸도 던진다. 고공 농성 현장에 찾아간다거나, 전단지를 더 적극적으로 받는다거나, 가난한 예술가의 작품을 보거나 사기도 한다. 감응하면 행동하게 되고 행동하면 관계가 바뀐다.
