i think it is way too difficult right now man. Not only would you need money to start buying cards to earn, you would also have to buy to stake SPS in order to even start earning. With that, how on earth can they earn, and how we who are already chest deep into the game cash out our capital

As for if the new SPS staking system making the game harder for newbies, absolutely. The situation is exactly as you described. I have been playing in silver with a moderately maxed bronze deck. Now me, and those cards are playing in bronze because the rewards were so low in silver. But in bronze I am constantly facing Llama/Kron and Quora. Cards I rarely faced in silver!! I think if I would have started now I would have played a few matches with starter cards, decided the game was impossible to start playing without spending hundreds of dollars, and then concluded that I can have a lot more fun playing many different games for my hundreds of dollars.

Not facing bots in bronze is good for new players because the bots, even with fewer cards, are not afraid to use starter cards and often taken wins from real players like this. On the other hand, there are more players with Quora and other powerful gladius cards, which can be difficult or even impossible to beat with regular cards.
Yes, new players will find the game hard. I remember my first few weeks on Splinterlands. Thankfully back then, I had some crypto in reserve I could use to buy about $200 worth of cards, and that helped me heaps. If I had to start again today, the rewards in Bronze League playing the Modern set are not enough as there is nothing I could use to buy cards, or even to rent cards. Without regular offsite inflows of fiat or crypto, I cannot see how new players can grow their collections beyond soulbound cards or even get the SPS they need to better their rewards. Such an outcome will only lead to frustration and then these new players will quit Splinterlands and potentially the Hive Blockchain entirely.
