It is no longer just some "conspiracy theory" that we are now living in a big brother Orwellian Nightmare.

Our so called "smart devices" in our "smart homes" have been designed to spy on us for the purposes of advertising and for control.

In this video

Dan Dicks of Press For Truth covers a bombshell expose released from Consumer Watching detailing the patents that Google and Amazon filed for spying on you through devices such as Alexa and the Echo.

may be i reasteam your post dear sir

@tspink | Jan. 4, 2018, 11:43 p.m. | Votes: 0 | [ VOTE ]

Always wondered if that was going to become reality. Read a story some time back about an Amazon Echo calling the cops on a Husband that was physically abusing his family. So I suppose not all is bad.. Still scary to think about tho.

@andyfishman | Jan. 5, 2018, 12:56 a.m. | Votes: 1 | [ VOTE ]

tspink - that is actually terrible. Regardless of what is going on in my house, I do not expect my machinery to intervene. The wife can place a complaint or call the police if that is what is required. How does an item of machinery know what is in fact happening? They could have been into some sort of sick sexualised playacting or something, acting out a rape fantasy. No thanks mate. If and when I need intervention I will not rely on my smart devices (of which I own none) to provide it for me, and until then, I expect no intercession from them.

@markkujantunen | Jan. 5, 2018, 6:42 a.m. | Votes: 1 | [ VOTE ]

Or you could have you kids taken away from you if one them throws a tantrum and one of your gadgets infers that you are abusing them and calls the police.

great job ,i have experienced it myself

@cryptorg | Jan. 4, 2018, 11:53 p.m. | Votes: 4 | [ VOTE ]

Privacy violation it seems that it was performed one with the development of technology. Today's Meltdown and Specter just revealed that the CHIPS used in computers, tablets and smartphones has a fault/vulnerability through which hackers can get personal information from those devices. I would say that this is not a fault but a seed planter by their creators. So, YES, we are targeted and used in order to commercialize our personal information. Hopefully with the blockchain there aren't hidden "gems" within.

@nathandduvall | Jan. 5, 2018, 5:26 a.m. | Votes: 1 | [ VOTE ]

Convenient that every citizen and business must now buy new devices and computers once "new chips" become available.

@cryptorg | Jan. 5, 2018, 3:20 p.m. | Votes: 1 | [ VOTE ]

Convenient for the companies, unfortunate for us the end users...:(

@ascension | Jan. 5, 2018, 12:08 a.m. | Votes: 0 | [ VOTE ]

These things were always gonna go down this route. Hopefully in the future people will be more aware and learn how to deactivate/power down the Orwellian features.

@rball8970 | Jan. 5, 2018, 12:43 a.m. | Votes: 0 | [ VOTE ]

Anybody using these devices in their home needs to be educated. Most people do not even care about being heavily watched. They are happy to give full access to their lives through their phones, laptops, any thing with cameras or microphones. Wifi connected televisions. The list is endless. Automobiles! All because they 'have nothing to hide'. I think it's sick. Thank you @pressfortruth I will be following.

@mikeycolon | Jan. 5, 2018, 12:54 a.m. | Votes: 1 | [ VOTE ]

Samsung and other smart tvs are guilty of this as well.

@rball8970 | Jan. 5, 2018, 1:16 p.m. | Votes: 0 | [ VOTE ]

Oh I know it! I mentioned wifi connected televisions in my comment. Even the smart LED light bulbs! Lol

Big brother indeed. It's sad people put up with this. 😔

@rball8970 | Jan. 5, 2018, 8:42 p.m. | Votes: 0 | [ VOTE ]

It absolutely is. I don't know how it got this bad. Well I do, but I guess what I don't get is how the average person doesn't see a problem with it.

@masterpiz | Jan. 5, 2018, 12:53 a.m. | Votes: 0 | [ VOTE ]

Privacy violation do not necessarily mean so much to some of these device users.
some users do not even know about this

@mikeycolon | Jan. 5, 2018, 12:53 a.m. | Votes: 6 | [ VOTE ]

You'd be foolish to be surprised by this. I unplug my wife's Echo all the time.

When I told my mom how Amazon listens in she could care less because she doesn't have sensative information. I told her that's not the point and it's sad people willingly put up with it plus pay for these devices!

@markkujantunen | Jan. 5, 2018, 6:53 a.m. | Votes: 1 | [ VOTE ]

What your wife and many other people fail to understand is that whether or not some piece of information is sensitive is highly contextual. Some innocent piece of information could prove the missing piece of a puzzle to any hostile party attempting to use your information.

@mikeycolon | Jan. 5, 2018, 8:45 a.m. | Votes: 1 | [ VOTE ]

Amen!

@seanp | Jan. 5, 2018, 11:15 a.m. | Votes: 0 | [ VOTE ]

Not surprised at all. I don't mind the advertising aspect since if I'd rather have an ad that's relevant to my interests than not. What bothers me is how often this 'market research' data collection is abused to identify, target and/or take action against groups of people socially or politically.

@safetony | Jan. 5, 2018, 6:44 p.m. | Votes: 0 | [ VOTE ]

They don't gave a big market share (yet), I'm going to remind people you can get smart home / home alarm systems that respect your privacy.

This is odd. As I was scrolling through the Steemit feed, my husband was saying he wanted an Alexa, but he didn't know because he doesn't want people to listen to our conversations. And I asked him could it do that, and he said all voice assisted things could including our Xbox. During our conversation just now, I scrolled onto your post. How coincidental. I would think you were listening to our conversation if you wouldn't have made this post 3 hours ago.

At this point, I think the only thing more shocking than big companies like this using their tech to spy on us, is that people are still being shocked by this.

Everyone knows, and I think to some extent people just don't care. They're happy to be spied on as long as it makes it easier to find that song they were listening to last week.

"Hey Siri, what was that song that came on at the club the other week?"

Great post Dan and very interesting. Had a pretty good idea this was going to start happening a while back. It seems that people have decided to sacrifice privacy for convenience IMHO. Ex.Providing Apple your fingerprints to unlock your phone and/or now providing a pic of your face for facial recognition. I think it’s great that you bring these things to light. I unfortunately don’t think these invasions of privacy will be stopped as long as people are willing to use technology and actually pay for their own privacy to be taken away. A simple solution would be to not buy smart devices at all and don’t use products or services associated with Google.

Oh boy. This is not the government spying on you, it's not an "orwellian nightmare". This is companies trying to send make money with your data buy better marketing towards your interests. This is what Google, Amazon, Facebook, Microsoft, Apple et cetera are doing. They've been doing this for years.
If you don't like it you have to be consequent and stop using Android, Apple products, Windows, Google, Amazon, Facebook and so on. You're free to use Linux on your PC, a phone which is supported by Replicant OS, a search engine that respecty your privacy, never use any social media platform (including Steemit and DTube) and never shop online. Good luck, mate.

Who's watching?
Tell me who's watching.
Who's watching me?
I'm just an average man, with an average life.
I work from nine to five; hey hell, I pay the price.
All I want is to be left alone in my average home;
But why do I always feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone, and
I always feel like somebody's watching me.
And I have no privacy.
Woh, I always feel like somebody's watching me.
Tell me is it just a dream?
When I come home at night.
I bolt the door real tight.
People call me on the phone I'm trying to avoid.
Well, can the people on T.V. see me.
Or am I just paranoid?
When I'm in the shower.
I'm afraid to wash my hair.
'Cause I might open my eyes
And find someone standing there.
People say I'm crazy.
Just a little touched.
But maybe showers remind me of
"Psycho" too much.
That's why. . .
I always feel like somebody's watching me.
And I have no privacy.
Woh, I always feel like somebody's watching me.
Who's playing tricks on me?
Who's watching me?
I don't know anymore . . . are the neighbors watching
Who's watching?
Well, it's the mailman watching me: and I don't feel safe anymore.
Tell me who's watching.
Oh, what a mess. I wonder who's watching me now,
(WHO?) the I.R.S.?
I always feel like somebody's watching me.
And I have no privacy.
Woh, I always feel like somebody's watching me.
Who's playing tricks on me?
I always feel like somebody's watching me.
I always feel like somebody's watching me.
I always feel like somebody's watching me.
I always feel like somebody's watching me.
I always feel like somebody's watching me.
I always feel like somebody's watching me.
And I have no privacy.
Woh, I always feel like somebody's watching me.
I can't enjoy my tea.
I always feel like somebody's watching me.
I want my privacy.
Woh, I always feel like somebody's watching me.
Woh, I always feel like somebody's watching me.
Stop playing tricks on me
Woh, I always feel like somebody's watching me.

You know when people started talking about this kind of stuff, they were called crazy or loony conspirators. People are starting to catch on. They have devices in some TV /monitors to watch and listen to you. It is the strangest thing to me that people in power want more control and power.

Recently there has been news about Motel 6 spying on guests for the govt. The excuse is that "illegal aliens" where staying there. I know for sure that they spy on regular folks as well.

Look at Mark Zuckerberg. They have a photo of him next to his phone with tape on the camera. If he is afraid of being spied on, guess what...we should be too!

Often times I talk about a specific item while sitting in the living room to my husband, like "I would love a new dyson vacuum" or "our dog needs more snacks" and within the next few minutes there is a commercial on tv about exactly what I was speaking about! I know it's not a coincidence.. also my tv turns off every night at 2am for an "update" hmm..

@crescendoofpeace | Jan. 6, 2018, 8:28 a.m. | Votes: 0 | [ VOTE ]

That was my first thought when I learned of these devices. No way in hell I'll ever have one in my home.

I keep emailing Microsoft asking for a way to permanently disable Cortana, and will continue to do so until they get sick enough of me to comply, since i did NOT pay to be spied upon.

Similarly I would never use Siri, rarely use Google or Amazon, and on the rare occasion that I do, it is through StartPage AND a VPN.

Big Brother is here to stay, and there are ways to protect ourselves, but we need to be diligent in implementing them.

For example, when purchasing new electronics, I default to non-smart devices whenever possible, and when not, I simply deny them access to our wifi router. Simple fix.

They can't spy if they have zero access, and since both the wifi and VPN are password protected, the devices can't gather data or phone home.

At least for the current Amazon Echo Devices this is not implemented. There are two micro controllers inside, one of them is only listening for the activation keyword but has no access to the internet. Once the keyword is detected the other controller is activated and then the voice input is sent to the AWS servers.

Around 2:50 mark, where you mentioned the story about work out. I have just one question. Could it be possible that you had GPS on and that you were seen to be at the gym (assuming your gym is registered on maps)? Since, in that case, it's easier for them to access the information and easy for the user to take some control in their hands (although there are stickers for cameras as well).

I am not trying to deny the story you said, and definitely not trying to deny the possibility to access user's cameras without their consent. But this was just a though that crossed my mind.

The idea is that A.I. and our common lives will soon merge, there are only 2 ways into this, 1)We will all benefit in humanities advancements 2)We will be easily controlled by the elite
Seeing the worlds history, the latter is very probable, as the rich have no intention in not continuing to be so, and keeping everything under control just get easier for them...damn sad
