On a gently curled blade of grass, I found a Eumerus figurans fly perched there. It stood there very calmly, seemingly waiting for the morning sun to warm its body. It was a very cold morning. I, wearing a jacket, felt very cold, especially the fly, whose entire body was covered only by fine, thin hairs. I'm sure the fly felt the cold more than I did. But it never complained, remaining relaxed there, as if it had a deep understanding of life. It seemed fully prepared for whatever situation lay ahead.
Judging by the combination of colors covering its body, it didn't look like a fly. Its costume was very similar to a bee. The only two things that easily distinguished this fly from a bee were its antennae and wings. This fly has very short antennae, while bees have long ones. Likewise, its wings only have one pair of wings, while bees have two pairs. Everything else, I found, was similar. One more thing you should know: despite its bee-like costume, this fly doesn't sting. It doesn't have a stinger. So it is very safe to approach it.
