They grow from the ground. They start from a seed or a root and acquire mass and grow somehow. Water comes from the sky or from rivers. But still they need something to give them mass and make them grow. If the nutrients were from the ground all trees would be in holes but they aren't. Trees get their mass from air..... I know it's shocking but it is so. Wood basically comes from the atmosphere. Nitrogen, hydrogen, carbon dioxide, and countless other atmospheric compounds make up the bulk of trees and the chemical and electrical forces "magically" exchanges these compounds into other compounds like silica, cellulose and other wood structures. The box is spanish cedar. Makes a good humidor and a pleasure to work with.
