Interest can get you to a point, but it is your dedication that keeps you all the way through. A lot of people have interest in achieving something great. Like that say they want to succeed, to improve their lives, build a business, learn a new skill, excel in their academics, or achieve one thing or the other. However, it is not everyone who has expressed interest actually achieves their goal. This is because there is a big difference between having Interest and being dedicated. Your interest may actually inspire you to start, but what keeps you going until you have achieved your results is dedication.

When I wanted to learn graphics designing some years back, I discussed with a friend of mine who was also interested in learning it. So we got some tutorials from online to practise with. We were both excited at the beginning. But I noticed something. Along the line, my friend would only practise when he felt like. Each time I tried to encourage him, he would give an excuse of how busy he was. At some points, he only learnt when he felt motivated. Well, I continued, and I finished the tutorials and even got more. After a few months, I started doing graphics designs for people, yet he had not completed the tutorials. It is true that we started together, but I was dedicated to the course.
More often than not, what brings success is not actually talent or intelligence, but how you have been dedicated and committed to the process. It is not about wanting something, but it is about following the required processes until you get it. Interest may be necessary to get you started. This is because it is mostly based on excitement, feelings, motivation, curiosity, etc. This is actually part of the reasons why people get attracted to opportunities and to goals. Interest is good and needed. It is usually the first step towards the achievement of your goals and your dreams.
It is worthy to note that interest alone cannot get the work done. You need dedicated to sustain you. Dedication comes with commitment, persistence, and the consistency to keep you going even when things may seem tough. Interest is almost entirely dependent on feelings, but dedication is dependent on discipline. Someone who is just interested will only work when they are motivated. While the person who is dedicated will work whether they are dedicated or not. That means they are not just moved by their emotions, but also by the strong conviction that they want to achieve their goal.
One very clear difference between interest and dedication will be seen when challenges come. In the face of challenges, someone who is only interested will become easily discouraged. They may even have the idea of success, but when it is time to prove it, they will struggle with it. Their enthusiasm fades away when obstacles arise. But dedicated people understand that the challenges they meet are part of the process. With this mentality, they will not quit, rather they will continue to move forward irrespective of the setbacks. It is true that you may not be able to prevent challenges, but with dedication, you will keep going without giving up.

Another difference between interest and dedication can also been seen in consistency. When you keep doing something over and again, then there is a possibility that you are not just interested in it, but you are dedicated to it. Just like someone who got a job, then wakes up each morning, gets prepared, and goes to work. This is because he is dedicated to the work. Even on the days he feels like not going, he will still have to go to work. When you keep showing up everyday even when progress seems slow, then it is dedication. You will understand that the small consistent efforts that you put in everyday will produce significantly large result over time.
A lot of people that have achieved greatness in life is not because they are the most talented, nor because they had more privileges than everyone else, but it comes down to dedication. When your dedication and commitment becomes strong, success will be certain.
