DAY TWO OF OUR ADVENTURE:From the Coast to the Mountains
First of all-the plans have changed a lot🙈
The night before, we had planned to sleep in Ljubljana—but, as it often happens with the best memories, we changed course.
The call of the sea was too strong to resist, and we found ourselves headed south, straight to Portorož.🌊 (sometimes the best plans are the ones you never make 🤭.)

This coastal gem of Slovenia is known for its elegance, seaside hotels, and lively promenade. Once a spa destination during the Austro-Hungarian Empire, today Portorož offers everything from relaxation to vibrant nightlife. Luckily, we managed to find a free apartment late in the evening—though it was only meant for two people, we cleverly squeezed in all of us.🙈
💸€90 for the night (a bit much, but at least we got some rest).

MORNING VIBES🌅
We woke up around 8 a.m., as check-out was at 10.
The air was filled with the scent of pine trees and salty sea breeze. After a quick pack-up and a coffee along the Portorož promenade, we headed to the beach. The sea was surprisingly warm—perfect for a morning swim.
We even walked over to the dog beach, where our Ruby happily splashed in the waves. This special beach is designed for pets and their humans, with easy access to the water and plenty of shade. Watching your dog enjoy the sea almost more than you is a heart-melting feeling.

  Ruby had the best time splashing in the sea and running around the dog park!
  This special beach is made just for our furry friends – with easy sea access, shade, and even a little playground 🐕💦

🇮🇹NEXT STOP-ITALY

After a sunny, salty morning, our hearts longed for something different—nature, mountains, and cool fresh air. So, we crossed the border into Italy and made our way to two stunning glacial lakes:
Lago di Fusine Superiore and Lago di Fusine Inferiore, only a 5-minute drive apart. Hidden in the region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, this place feels like a natural amphitheater embraced by mountains.

As soon as you arrive at Fusine, you’re wrapped in silence and cool, clean mountain air. The water is crystal-clear, reflecting the majestic peaks above. One of the most striking is Mangart, the fourth-highest mountain in Slovenia, towering in view from the Italian side. Around the lakes are wooden benches and walking paths that lead through mossy forests and over little creeks. The untouched wilderness here feels almost sacred. We walked slowly, in silence, soaking in the views, snapping photos of mountain reflections, and listening to birdsong. It felt like stepping into an Alpine fairy tale.

💧ONE LAST DIP:NADIŽA RIVER
Nadiža River—one of Slovenia’s cleanest rivers, famous for its emerald pools and healing properties. Tucked in a quiet valley near the Italian border, the river flows through a landscape of cliffs and forest. The water was—honestly—freezing cold, but refreshingly so. Once you jump in and hold your breath, your body and mind wake up instantly. We swam in natural pools beneath rocky arches, embraced the peace, and let the rushing water wash away all worries. Nadiža is one of those magical places where you feel reconnected with nature.

Now, as we drive back home, we’re pleasantly exhausted yet spiritually recharged. I’m writing this blog, my partner is driving, and Ruby and his cousin are fast asleep in the back.😴💤

Today was a blend of peace, beauty, and spontaneity—all the ingredients of a perfect summer day. It was proof that sometimes, the best moments are the ones you never planned. You just follow your instinct, explore freely, and let the adventure unfold on its own.🦋🌈
