Hivers in India

After my previous post about Ireland I had a request to query for those in India. The country has a population of about 1.4 billion with 50% reckoned to be online. That gives Hive a lot of potential for growth. From what I have seen and heard cryptocurrencies may be regulated there. It seems crazy for a large country to ban its citizens from using this technology. I expect people can update me on the situation.

This list is based on querying various terms using @hivesql looking for accounts active in the last month. People can put what they want in their Hive profile, so it is bound to miss some. I would suggest that someone use this as the basis of a country list to which they can add people as they find them. I can provide code to turn that into a post. I do this with the #BritList each month. For that I have about 700 people on file, but most are inactive.

It would be great to see lists like this for more countries that get updated regularly. I think monthly is often enough as the numbers may not change too quickly and we do not want to spam people with mention notifications. If you need help starting a list then give me a shout.

Thanks for choosing my name at the top of list among active users โ™ฅ๏ธ

There was some news about regulation of cryptocurrency but govt did not announce officially if there will b such kind of news I will definitely know you

You are early in the alphabet. I think it's all legal here, but you can be taxed on your profits. I'm just not sure how I would calculate mine.

Hello steevc

Good job. I am glad this time you have chosen stats about India. Thank you so much.

We had trouble previously but government Imposed 30% tax slab. I think everyone is in a bit stress. A reduce in slab will be help people for people.

Thanks once again man.

You are most welcome. I was hoping there would be more, but India is probably in the top 10 of active countries. Lots of potential for growth.

I would have guessed there would be more than that. I feel like they have a really good community here with the India United group and all of that. Although there are some pretty strict regulations in India on crypto, that doesn't necessarily stop people from using it. Plus some might just be on Hive because they enjoy it. Whether they can pull the money out or not.

It's such a massive country with more people online than live in the USA. It could be massive for crypto, but the politicians need to be reasonable.

Thatโ€™s great way to see how many Indians are actually using this platform, we can now connect with more people from our country.
Also about the regulation of crypto currency in India is not really true, itโ€™s actually legal now, we can trade in but have to give 30% tax to government from the profits.

@steevc | Nov. 22, 2022, 7:53 p.m. | Votes: 0 | [ VOTE ]

That's great if you can use it legally. Governments are always looking to tax stuff. It will make work for accountants.

I have been using Hive since beginning! Happy to have know some fellow Indians from this post. Good work buddy! Cryptos are not regulated in any way here. It's just a loot by government as they taxed crypto earnings at 30% straight and 1% TDS for each transaction on a crypto exchange. Can you imagine getting 99000$ crypto after buying 100000$ worth crypto. Volumes on Indian exchanges have declined by 85% since last year due to same reason.

@steevc | Nov. 22, 2022, 7:50 p.m. | Votes: 0 | [ VOTE ]

That must be a pain, but then we tend to pay some sort of premium to exchanges anyway. I'm sure people will try to avoid paying tax and with crypto that is possible. I have a friend in India who has shown some interest in Hive, but we was worried about the legality of it.

Hive is legal in India...its just earnings will be subject to taxation... crypto is not illegal or banned in India, I am sure of that!!

@balvinder294 | Nov. 22, 2022, 7:32 p.m. | Votes: 1 | [ VOTE ]

Crypto in India is different than other countries, it's not like people have not invested before, it's just now taxes are more and earning is low because of inflation as well crypto market down.
But yeah people still using crypto projects, just less buying.

And if I see me as well, I was not very much active on hive at the beginning. Just started back posting around a year now. Still trying to be more active
Thanks

The Indian Government has launched its own digital currency called Digital Rupee. I think it wants Indians to use its own digital currency, instead of crypto. Therefore, they have imposed a heavy tax on it in India.

@face2face | Nov. 23, 2022, 11:34 a.m. | Votes: 1 | [ VOTE ]

There is much potential for Crypto currency in India ahead. The roadmap is in progress gradually. Our Government will soon announce a new currency as crypto based so that we first buy that currency then that currency can be utilised to buy another Crypto. I appreciate your work. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

@steevc | Nov. 23, 2022, 11:41 a.m. | Votes: 0 | [ VOTE ]

I don't think people will trust government crypto. It's likely to be centralised.

@face2face | Nov. 23, 2022, 11:51 a.m. | Votes: 1 | [ VOTE ]

The government will do this to take maximum tax from investors or earners. People have to buy crypto as much as they want but using that new currency only so that the Government can keep their eyes on it and can claim fixed taxes.

Well... I was wondering how my name was identified that I am from India(:... its all done theough sql search...ok...

Do I have to be politically correct or give my unfront view...

India is going to be overtaking China in population next year... there is unemployment, poverty besides a lot of awful things...

It did get good profits due to IT boom because it capitalised on the oppurtunity but this time...

I have been emotionally tortured due to its crypto stance from 2018, so all this taxation bomb did not actually unnerve me much...

however, of what I see no one is clear on this tax issue still...its complicated... and no one is happy about this huge taxation which is deterring investors...

We have a incompetent financial head now... and India's economy is not a tall doing well for the population it has its gDP growth is dismal...

Yet, Polygon is bravely around... and they are touring India to capture developers and interact and stuff like that...

Blockchain is inevitable... but crypto is not going to be viewed amiablely by political will and all that...

I am scared sometimes to speak critically of Govt. should they take me in as a crypto person so they view me unfavorably...ouch!!!

Lots of negativity my friend... I am not in touch with Indian crypto news much...coz I am tired. I am global crypto enthusiast...and I hope this Indian Government makes life easy for crypto residents there coz they will be a happier lot... because Hive can be our income and its not atall fair to tax our Hive earnings unless we make substansial profits.

I am ok with regulation and taxation but it should be pro crypto...if that happens India can benifit...else unemployed, pissed off youth, will channel their energy in very unwanted ways...

Take my case, if it were not for crypto, I don't think I will have much to do... if you jump into crypto there is so much do that the youth will be engaged productively...although i am no youth...

I wish they are less harsher on crypto people...and let us be indulging in application and earn what we do, and pay taxes fairly but again they should make that easy too... TDS shit killed volume in crypto exchanges...

and crypto exchanges were pesecuted by ED... blamed for some cash sam when banks were involved too... ouch... I can go on and on but life for a crypto person in India is meserable... and we don't even have a good name globally - they call us a poor country whose Government is now commiting human rights violations, and a country that unsafe for women, is top in the hunger index list and persecuting journalists.

Indian govt. won't like and favour crypto because they don't want us to be empowered...period...sucks big time... but we have to move on, atleast crypto is not banned here but the culture faround it and how its dealth with is shameful...truely is and what are these guys who don't understand crypto or blockchain decide for us???... I can't raise up my tone more it will be indecent and negative.

My query just looks at the location in your profile.

Different governments differ in their attitude to crypto, but then crypto is so varied. Some of it can be pretty anonymous, so I'm not sure how they could track to to impose taxes. The internet does not care about national borders. The issue is generally about getting fiat to buy things, but I hope we will be able to buy more directly with crypto in future.

!BEER

@mintymile | Nov. 24, 2022, 3:49 p.m. | Votes: 1 | [ VOTE ]

Most P2P exchanges are taking KYC... so buying anonymously in fiat is difficul altough there is one P2p exchange where you can buy P2p anonmyously... its agoradesk.com and can trade monero too...

rates will be premium for buyers and sellers also have to sell crypto below MRP... according to my experience... VNP may help as well... hodlhodl is another exchange but indian buyers and sellers are not there there!!

So, easy way to buy is KYC compliant exchanges... and sell too... but maybe there are better ways to buy things anonmyously,...shrugs not aware...

If you have relative abroad...or trusted friend you can traded crypto for some stablecoin, send it to them and then they can send you funds back through paypall... I have not pursued this option...

Its just I was scared to step into a indian CEX and now I am sared to step into any CEX...

Even if you trade in international exchange...they do KYC and will comply with Indian Govt. if they need to furnish details... Binance CEO CZ made that clear...

So, if you need to trade anonmyously avoid as much as possible CEX trades... but I am out of touch, coz I have not sold my crypto much post the tax rules, the little I sold I did it through agora as mentioned, you are free to trade there anonmyously!!

First would like to say thanks for bringing collective Indian user together. I already ReHived it so that I can check them one by one later. No doubt Wazirx, Binance feeling lonely without Indian user๐Ÿ™ƒ. Huge tax concerned everyone. From previous few month I did not login on Binance or Bittrex. In case of Indian digital currency I don't think that it is going to make any impact over crypto users. Crypto road map going tough for Indian users..
Thanks again for posting about Indian user.

You are welcome. I find these statistics interesting. I see a lot of people talking about the crypto tax, but anything you earn on Hive is a bonus as most of us will not earn much online elsewhere. I hope to see many more join up with options to spend $HIVE directly. Together we can make it happen.

Sure with the job working on Hive is like a bonus. Feeling proud being the part of such wonderful decentralize community.
