We had a couple that hung around but I don't think they successfully nested. He just finished feeding her in this shot. They spent alot of time around plus in and out of one of my birdhouses but have moved on now.

Chickadees moved into my bluebird house this year. In the past it has been Carolina wrens Never bluebirds.

Love that little Newt I never see any around here.

Curated with some Ecency votes

Thanks! I've never had bluebirds either. I have had wrens. These two did all the routine. He fed her. They hung out together getting worms. They were in and out of the house. But no babies.

Spring is so pretty right now. Very green and still pretty cool temps.

That's nice to have the sun out, but still not hot.

Wow rare find on that newt. I wonder if it will turn into a fire bellied newt? My wife found a juvenile one over here living inside a dryad's saddle full of water, it was just a gray one maybe about 3/4" long. My daughter would love trying to catch all those toads emerging. Bluebird looks to be a wild anarchist trying to sabotage the well.

We see these little newts crossing the roads when we get a cool rain. Toads are much easier to catch than the frogs 😉 I could see some rebel teenage bluebirds. Maybe they have something against breeders... 😆

Good to see amphibians, I miss them in my climate

They love a good cool rain. Thats when they are out moving. Probably a few more of those here in Vermont than your home 🙂

I have seen a few western bluebirds here in the inland northwest. They are one of the few colorful species out here. It's too arid for amphibians to stray far from lakes and rivers. I saw a garter snake, though, and I hope he is culling the rodent population!

These little newts love vernal pools. And travel too and from them to larger bodies of water at different stages in their life. Often across a road. So we see them alot after a cool rain. I have photos of an epic garter snake vs frog battle. The snake eventually won but it took all afternoon. Basically won by keeping ahold until the frog was completely exhausted.

My neighbor had a colony of skinks living behind her house, so I know they find their way to suitable habitats somehow.
