After 7 days you cannot be paid anymore. You receive your payout 7 days after you posted. People can still upvote your post after these 7 days, but it will not influence the payout after these 7 days.

thanks for the reply, but what i mean was we are creating posts for only 7 days unlike creating posts for our own websites which are long lasting, you still get paid because of your old posts because ads will display on old posts too right?.

On Steemit, there isn't any type of ad revenue to be earned with your posts.

Though, there are some accounts which have endorsements, mainly from one poker site.

You could use ads on Steemit also. I never used any. We're we going I'm not sure we'll need ads. Seriously.

Nobody discusses it much, but you could place ads on your posts as an affiliate, offer to do sponsored ads through Fiverr or to business leads you gather, even do sponsored posts maybe. I don't know how effective ads would be at this point, though. You'd probably need to generate more post views than the average Steemian for it to be worth it.

Agreed. People can do sponsor posts. It is something people do. Like YouTube for example. I'm Doctor Oatmeal.

I think the best way to do it, and I think I read this in one of Stellabelle's posts, is too just have fun and blog. I think that strategy might work because that way you are probably more likely to stick at it for a while, which is an important factor in making money as far as I know. Also, your audience are more likely to enjoy your posts and look out for more, or follow you, because they can identify with you.

I'm glad you highlighted that part. I think it's very true and people might not always realize it. It's definitely tougher but more rewarding...

For over 10 years I've been saying the economic catastrophe that is looming will be avoided, but I never knew how. At least until this year when I revisited an idea I stumbled into back in 2010 called Bitcoin. This year has been like going back to school except I'm the teacher and the student, and blockchain is the subject I'm learning about. It wasn't until I learned about steem that I really fully saw the impact blockchain tech is going to have on culture and society.

I do think the cryptocurrency revolution is only at its beginning.

I cannot tell you how much I have gotten from Steemit - Its now my go to for anything I want to learn more about - I have found so many useful posts, some have really been life changing for me and my family :) I do post, but my posts are not yet up to speed..I will get there though..confident of that. As far as payout, .002 in a weeks is really something to laugh at :) I am going to have a GREAT week this week, confident of that!!! Indeed Steemit is in it's early stages and it's only smart to get in now and start building a reputation here. @teamsteem You guys need to find a way to segment more or lower the amount of posts in the sections because anything posted longer than 2 minutes ago gets lost. The amount of content posted is like twitter, but the feed looks like Reddit. So much gets lost.

Been trying to convert my Facebook/Twitter/Reddit friends to SteemIt but only a handful of them gave it a try and most of them quit after a day or two. Some people still can't grasp the concept, and some even ridicule me. Oh well, i did my part.

The hardest part about Steemit is preaching it to your friends without sounding like you're trying to rope them into a pyramid scheme... It's a constant battle for me LOL

I know what you mean. Money in Steem is just like a bonus. Nobody is forced to invest and everyone has the opportunity to make some, so it's a bit foolish to be scared of it.

Reddit is the 8th most popular website and give its users nada. People don't need to be paid to want to share, everyone wants to share and Steem is the best place to do it.

Do you know if there's a markdown pad version or look a like for Mac?

the STEEMIT website could also be made available again as well, as it's also opensource and available on steemit's github as "condenser". I think some people try to make money on Steemit using shortcuts. So what they might try to do is to keep checking what are the highest rating tags, or try to mention a whale in their blog (like I am doing here). Actually now that I think of it, that is what I am doing, especially with this particular reply.

Thanks for info. It's cool you were able to make what you did. The most obvious way to promote steem is to help your community profit. It's the life changing stories that attract people. We live in a world where everything is set up against us. People are tired of empty promises that draw their heart in and then leave them hanging.
There's a feeling of excitement when you first sign up. You write and #introduceyourself and everyone up votes it. You rediscover skills you forgot about and things are exciting. Yet that feeling is short lived. As you discover about steem power and bandwidth you learn more. Once the feeling subsides it's up to the individual to continue on. So just like the great feelings attract new users, feeling abandoned or mislead will lead to fewer users as people tell their story. So the stories told so ultimately depend on how good the steemit community and it's leaders are at lifting and supporting it's fellow steemians.

Now I'd like to share some of my own perspective in regards to some subjects you touch on this post, so here I go:

You bring up some very valid points as to why we should promote steemit. I would like to share some points that I've seen so far:
* Steemit mostly promotes high quality content in order to encourage everyone to do better at what they're doing, to get better at their own posts, indifferent of what those posts are about.
* Steemit success is highly based on making friends, on interacting with other fellow steemians and interacting with the site itself, which promotes us to be engaged with other people, to make friends, to support them as they support us.
* Steemits way of promoting those who share valuable and well presented information also promotes the conscious evolution of Human kind as a whole.

Those are for now, and there are more, but your post motivates me to write my own post regarding my own experience in promoting steemit to friends who have never heard of a world like this.

Anyways, thank you so much for your work. It really does help those who wish to get better at what they're doing, and that is part of who I am.

I habe benn working hard and spreadimg the opportunity far and wide and The JAMAICANS will soon be flood the maket. These are free of speech and look for the oppurtunity to earn from anything legal. Well, we are changing the world as we know it and I think we can atleast try to direct it towards what we want. A network where people are not used for their collective data and used like a sheep but a network where one can truly participate, contribute and find and engage in subjects we actually care for.

That's a great initiative. One big problem remaining is waiting to get accounts approved. I had seen before that that is because of the initial cost and that if a person was willing ro pay it themselves that the wait could be circumvented and the people you have turned on to Steenit could jump on in. Would you, or anyone here happen to know where and how a person would go about using that method. Their are a couple people I know that I would be willing to pay for, and several others I would like to present the option to let them pay and skip the wait.

It is good to promote steemit and steem. The concept behind this platform is revolutionary. Indeed, it is easier to explain crypto currency to ordinary people using steem because it is the first cryptocurrency, whose mining was designed in such a way that ordinary people can participate.

Anyway to make purchasing of steem easlier😑 My only problem is that my country is making it hard for us to purchase bitcoin and to TOP up $ into the exchanges for us to purchase it. Not sure if it's possible to purchase steem directly next time from the site. I see steam out growing Facebook soon and if you guys can have a function for people to upload video directly on the site rather then going to YouTube, then this site will grow multiple times faster 😁

We should all be promoting steem as it has the potential to be a facebook and twitter rival, if not a killer, as you said it is a revolutionary platform. And much more fun to boot. That feeling when you push that post button and wondering if a whale is going to come along and release the full power of his vote on you, it is exhilarating.

However I think for me, as a minnow, this was the most important part of this post.

I was spending hours writing my content only for it to be overlooked because I haven't put the ground work in and developed a following. It is pretty disheartening.

I have somewhat the same feeling even though a lot of my votes come from bot, I always wonder how good my posts are going to do. People should fool themselves a lot of the votes are influences by how many Steem the author possess.

First of my problem is how can i save, bookmark or do smth to see posts later.
I like this post and looked for a way to save it for later reading and havent found one except replying.
Is there a way to do that?

I dont use much social media but since i read and heard about steem i saw it is smth new and refreshing and want to give it a try.

Yes, it is also the pecuniar motivation but it is not my big interest here. You can't make money with things you dont like and want to.

Steemit is a growing platform with growing pains in my opinion. How do we make sure quality content is found and promoted by the community. If everyone continues to just follow and resteem the whales in an effort to gain their attention isn't it just a popularity contest that was won from the beginning. I'm a pretty recent newbie, and am putting a fair amount of time into a post right now titled, "Why I chose to not get the Rhogam shot while pregnant." I plan on posting a link to it on facebook. Doing that via bitly is a great idea! I like the idea of seeing how many clicks I get from fb. I have also been working to get people I know who have great content to join. My Mom is a professional writer and has a TON of blog material. What she doesn't have is a ton of extra time to build up a following/do a lot of commenting, etc. She takes care of my Gramma full time....My Sister is a model (part-time/semi-professional) and she has some wonderful photos to share. I've been trying to get her onto Steemit, since I know ya'll would love her stuff. But, she's expressed concern about copyright issues....I've told her Steemit doesn't "own" her stuff once she posts it, but she's yet to join. I'll see her this weekend and try to talk her into it again. Anyhoo, long comment to say I've been working to get folks on here! :)

Do you know how many of those accounts are active accounts?

I'm more about quality than quantity. The masses will follow eventually and why not make sure all the struggling artists, teachers, creators etc. who want to make the world better have a chance to make profit from being on here before the masses arrive.

I finally got around to bringing some friends and aquantinces to steemit. 5-6 this week, super awesome people with big hearts and lots to contribute.

100% agree @whatamidoing. I haven't checked in the last couple of days, but as I recall about 20,000 accounts are active at least once a week.

I'm more about quality, as well. I "recruit" quite a bit but it's almost exclusively person-to-person to people I already KNOW create high quality web content. It think it serves the site best to build a really broad base of quality content before emphasizing "mass" marketing too much. It will also ensure more people are established on the platform to help guide newcomers who see this purely as a "clicking for cash" site.

Totally. I mention that there is money to be made here but put it in the middle of my explanation. "Get paid to use social media" willing draw in a lot of people....mostly people who are less sincere in what they have to offer. Those people are sure to make it here eventually. Let others profit before they come! :-)

@teamsteem, lots of good info here, as always!

Couple of thoughts... in these promotional/explanatory posts we do to the outside world, I feel it's pretty important that we make it very clear that STEEMIT is the social content site and STEEM is the currency. This site already has a steeper learning curve than most "plug-and-play" sites, so keeping term as accurate as possible should be a priority.

For the primary tag I would propose using "promoting-steemit" rather than "promoting-steem" UNLESS a post is specifically about the token rather than the social site.

Be mindful of a BALANCED presentation! This doesn't apply to you but if people are taking their cues from "power players," SOME are out there promoting the site purely as a "make money" venue... with the unfortunate consequence of attracting lots of people who are ONLY here to "click buttons for cash." Whereas there's nothing in the code to prevent this, the risk is that it provides ZERO lasting value. Better so say this is "a social content site that rewards contributors" than calling it a "make money online" site. Brings two VERY different types of people in.

I get what you mean but to mean Steem is also the platform and no matter where we access the platform we can post. Steemit does what is does because Steem allow it. Steem is the thing and Steemit is just part of it.

I understand your concern about the possible confusion it can create. We'll see how thing goes.

Sure we'll attract unwanted attraction but hopefully more positive contributors than negative one.

Unfortunately many people do not believe in this new concept of a social network with technology Blockchain database, others do not want to start with cents, they already want to be on top of the success, many still complain about finding people who did not succeed, and blame The whales. Anyway, I believe that in a short time everyone will be here, and there will only be remorse not to have entered before, because here is a social network system of the future.

The concept itself is just genuis! and you are quite right in what you said - most of the people who could benefit most from a platform like this, have absolutely no knowledge of it.

My father and my brothers are big crypto men and they have educated me a lot in the subject... they are my "gurus" haha.

Viva La Steem! I had a healthy level of skepticism when hearing about Steemit. How can one possibility generate dollars out of thin air? Once you realise STEEM dollars is the currency you are paid in, which can exchanged for BTC and then dollars, it's a lot easier to understand. This platform/model seems to really help out with the troll issue by incentivizing just being a decent human being. Well written post. Tells it all. But at times I feel that when you write a post it is all about who you know on steemit. People with high SP try not to upvote at all but gain others votes. It does take the encouragement away from the ones who cannot write smartly, but they try. Yes people do make money on steemit. Not equally. Same way is in life when people have management jobs and labor jobs. Does steemit play the roll of minimum wages? ☺

Lately I've been thinking a lot about how to blog in a way that people will really engage with my blog. I want people to leave comments. But I also want them to reply to my replies, as well as other people's comments and their replies. So I have noticed that a key theme on Steemit seems to be that if you are a minnow (someone who is just starting out with blogging on Steemit and you don't have a high reputation score / many followers / much steem) you gotta try and get a whale (someone who does have high reputation score / many followers / much steem) to upvote your posts or comments because their upvotes are worth a lot of money.

Good article for information.I joined not to long ago in hopes that steemit keeps up the great work. This can be the new facebook.

I really like the idea of this and will definitely write a post promoting steemit in the near future. I wish there was more information regarding exactly how steemit works with upvoting power, steemit power, SBD, etc. For someone new to the platform it can be very confusing as the current user interface needs work.
